2023.03.29 05:45 StepwiseUndrape574 IS GTA 6 RELEASING IN 2024? INSIDER SUGGESTS IT’S LIKELY

Tez2, a reputable Rockstar insider has suggested on the GTA Forums that GTA 6 is likely to be released this year with a tentative release date of 2024.
According to my own reports which date back to June 2021, this seems to be the case. My sources have said that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been aiming for a 2024 release date for some time, but speculation and past reveal/release schedules of the likes of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 suggest the game will be delayed until 2025.
If I were to guess – I believe the game would release in the holiday of 2025 instead of the spring.
As for when the announcement is made is unclear, but typically Rockstar Games likes to announce its big reveals on its own. So to set expectations, I wouldn’t necessarily expect the game to be announced at E3. Instead, I expect some form of reveal trailer in Q4 2023 to coincide with past reveals.
According to my own sources, one of the major reasons for such a long-winded “delay” is that GTA 6 will release on current-generation consoles only. With the tentative 2024 date being planned as far back as 2021, it was a means of ensuring that GTA 6 would have a sufficient console market to release on.
In late 2022, Rockstar Games had a security breach that resulted in over 70 videos on GTA 6 gameplay surfacing online. In its subsequent earnings call, Take-Two Interactive addressed investors to state that the leak was unfortunate, but they believe it had no impact on development.
“There’s no evidence that any material assets were taken, which is a good thing, and certainly the leak won’t have any influence on development or anything of the sort, but it is terribly disappointing and causes us to be ever more vigilant on matters relating to cybersecurity”, it was said.
As for GTA 6, for now, we’ll need to continue sitting tight and see what gets announced in the hopefully near future.
When do you think GTA 6 will be announced?

2023.03.29 05:03 QuixoticWeekender Primary trying to make due until specialist seen

39F, sudden symptom onset in early December right before & after a migraine. Do the cervical MRI results warrant the symptoms that started almost four months ago? What other tests could my primary order until I see a specialist? (she’s very open to suggestions but knows she’s a generalist) Are there any other specialty doctors she should consider referring me to? My primary is doing her best bc the neurologist who first saw me wouldn’t let me share my symptoms, then also didn’t answer my primary’s questions when she tried. My outside referral, approved by insurance, was turned down by the medical group for lack of appt availability, so that process has to start over. Past diagnoses: ADHD (hyper type), Fibromyalgia, Migraines, Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (sleep study 2021), Mild asthma (mostly in extreme temps or with fever), PMDD Meds: gabapentin and trazadone for sleep leg twitches, Adderall XR (was newly on Vyvanse when symptoms started, switched back when Adderall shortage let up), flexeril as needed since symptoms started; Discontinued since symptom onset: Vyvanse, Singulair (due to black box warning w/some symptom overlap), sumatriptan bc I was told not to take it since I’d had an aura; attempted birth control in case it could interrupt migraines, but it didn’t and made me have a flat affect, so went off. Fibromyalgia note: I read that NSAIDs aren’t effective for it. If that’s true, this might’ve been misdiagnosed bc ibuprofen has always helped the most, especially now my neck MRI reflects damage from injuries. Severe neck injuries at 18 &21ish, medium impact ones at 28ish & 34ish. Covid: I’ve never tested positive despite testing when my wife or I have been sick, and she had never tested positive either. Before I took Adderall, I would get every cold for two weeks straight, so I’ve been very careful about masking. Migraine history: Onset around 32 w/one occurrence, which quickly abated after sudden vomiting. Around 35: started having migraine w/out aura at the end of every period, until I discovered that prenatals helped. About a year ago, 38: started having migraines at time of ovulation, which I had confirmed was happening exactly two weeks before every period, regardless of cycle length - prenatals did not help these. Nov 2022: had my first aura, visual, right before a migraine. Dec 2022: was very restless for first two period days, not in my hyperactive/good ideas/fun adhd sort of way, but, if I’m remembering correctly since I didn’t suspect anything and therefore wasn’t tracking, just constant startling and need to move and getting annoyed at the dumbest stuff. Period day 3: migraine but different bc it was across both eyes, not just eitheor, no aura. This was also earliest I’d had one during a period. I maxed out on Sumatriptan, spacing out as prescribed. Period day 4: woke up w/right side facial numbness, was advised to go to ER. I did, but they quickly surrounded me to do a stroke check, I got very overstimulated, then they sent me back to lobby to wait. I became very restless again and ended up leaving when I couldn’t sit still but was somehow also too exhausted to pace to release the feeling. Tests since: Brain: MRI without, later with, contrast; MRA and MRV = all normal Blood (all normal): ANA, thyroid, thyroid antibody, sedimentation rate, CRP, complete blood count, metabolic panel, magnesium level, ACE, Lyme antibody Cervical MRI w/contrast: bulging discs and foraminal stenosis at all points between C3 and C7; mild and moderate spinal stenosis at C3-4, 5-6, 6-7; facet disease at C7-T1. Scheduled: routine EEG Symptoms: -twitching in neck and face -muscle tightness, but not like anything I’ve felt before - can feel like energy is coursing through the front of my neck, has gone as far up as my eye(s), is usually on right side but occasionally switches for very short time and even more occasionally is on both sides… something I haven’t seen anyone say about muscle tightness: I usually have a low amount of pain at all times, but when this happens, pain is less or gone -blurry eye(s), usually just right side, or inability to focus eye(s) without facial twitching or pain behind them, and is sometimes accompanied by eye dryness -overstimulation, way beyond my normal for my adhd, primarily with sounds & light, sounds being most frequent -after never having more than two migraines/month, had four in one week, and what feels like migraines, but shorter, more frequently -migraines now worse when changing positions, worst is going into laying down and best is sitting up -new headache type that best matches what I’ve seen called “ice pick” -sound most similar to waves crashing in my ears (started as occasional ringing, but changed to this, happens especially with headaches or when laying down) -difficulty finding words; my primary noted it as describing words, as opposed to knowing them. This has been weird bc I’m a communications professional; happened spoken first, now writing just as frequent; once lost ability to verbally speak for a few minutes (got stuck on the “s” sound) -difficulty organizing thoughts & work (this, & word difficulty, causing me to take hours on tasks I’ve done in 15 minutes) -switching words/letters: I didn’t notice this at first but others pointed it out and I’ve seen when I’ve gone back to review my notes -short, intense mood bursts: remind me of during a migraine, but more frequent and w/o headaches -getting overheated, especially w/attempt to exercise beyond walking 1/4 mile (it’s been 50-60 degrees F) -forgetfulness: that “why’d I walk in here” feeling but, when it’s bad, happens on repeat and can happen in the time it takes to grab a pen to write down what I wanted to remember -restlessness that comes for a day or two at a time and has been bad enough that I wake up after 3 hrs, even w/ Flexiril + gabapentin + trazadone -Occasional nervousness that I don’t know how to describe bc it’s unlike any I’ve felt before Timing: Initially symptoms were around for 2-3 weeks, then mostly gone for a couple, but I’ve only had 2-3 days of less symptoms in March. -symptoms don’t seem to follow patterns, but some seem more likely to be present with certain others, I.e. twitching w/ tightness and forgetfulness w/ disorganization, but have occasionally had other mash ups or many at once Family history: My mom refused the next steps tests, but stiff person syndrome is suspected; confirmed she has low dopamine but Parkinson’s ruled out; Paternal grandpa: per my dad - his dad was diagnosed with MS, but it was later ruled out and, as far as he knows, my grandpa never received a final diagnoses, then he lived into his 70s - I recall him also having heart issues. My dad and at least 1 of my 2 brothers have had migraines, my brother mentioned he’s had some very intense visual auras
TL/DR I have a history of pretty common diagnoses that I’ve had for varying lengths, but my brain has felt broken since December and referall and keep following through

2023.03.29 04:44 imamuffin18 DAE know the nature and the reasoning behind why the Second Amendment exists? (long)

Yes school shootings are bad. Yes, massacres are bad. But these are all actions taken by either one of two people; people who do not lawfully own a gun, like children who take their parents guns, or irresponsible gun owners. A very high majority of gun owners in the United States, such as myself, are educated and responsible. The more gun laws that are passed the more difficult it is for a person like me to lawfully own a weapon. Irresponsible weapon owners, such as gang members or robbers, do not follow these laws and go through these processes, despite the fact that these are the people those very laws are aimed towards (no pun intended).
No gangbanger will ever say, at least from my perspective, "I want to shoot up someone from a rival gang but I need to wait for my background check to pass and then wait the probationary period, yada yada yada." There are many ways of acquiring firearms or ghost-guns. New laws and events like the shooting today make current laws and regulations stricter which hurts responsible gun owners and not anyone will ill intent, like a criminal.
Just because I have a weapon does mean that I plan to shoot up a public area; I am a responsible gun owner. I find shooting targets safely at a range a bit cathartic, and the engineering of gun assembly and disassembly a little fascinating. Am I to suffer for the actions of those not responsible enough to own a firearm?
In the event of some type of apocalypse, whether it be zombie, nuclear, or anything with the fall of law and ordesociety, I have a much better chance of surviving that others simply because I own a weapon, some ammo, I know how to clean them, and I can fix problems with them like jams. To those of you anti-gun reading this, what is your plan for an apocalypse? Hope you don't get killed and/or wait for everything to go back to normal? Do you perhaps plan on robbing someone with a knife?
Now for the question I initially asked. The second amendment, unlike what I find a lot of people say, is NOT for hunting or for personal protection from criminals. While firearms can be used for these purposes, in addition to as a hobby and a sport, it is used as a civilian defense against the government. If the government did something so completely unconstitutional or tyrannical, guns are not only our defense but also our insurance policy. For instance; if the government mandated that the name Ryan was illegal, many people would be sent to jail or could be executed for almost nothing and not breaking any laws, myself included. While this example is a bit extreme, it helps highlight the necessity of guns. I know I, for one, would not kowtow to the new hypothetical law; I wouldn't go down without a fight.
"But why fight? It's futile. Your rifle and handgun are no match for the military" some people may exclaim. To them I say, you're right, but it is a purpose greater than myself. If many people did that and the government publicly slaughtered many of their own people, that would be a dark stain in history; perhaps it could later be revoked or even better yet, learned from and not to be repeated in the future. Fun fact; one of the first things Hitler did in power was he took guns away from anyone he declared undesirable, like Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, etc. It was only after that when he forced them into ghettos, concentration camps, and death camps. How easy do you think that second part would have been if everyone still had fire arms?
This sparks the saying "if you want to take my guns I want them more." If the government tries to take away a persons weapons, it only doubles down the belief that a person needs them for protection. We often hear about the failures of guns in society, like school shootings and robberies, but we never hear about the successes. When a person robs a home but the home owners have a weapon to defend themselves, how often do you hear about that on the national/nightly news? It's its easy to critique a system when it is currently working; its very difficult to look at how bad things can get and what it means. For example, after the COVID vaccine started being mass produced, Israeli military literally went house to house making sure people had vaccination cards. People who didn't, whether it was misplaced or they simply didn't have them, could have been arrested OR worse. These were innocent people who faced prosecution, not criminals. A friend who lived there at time told me he finally understood why we have the second amendment; this was a man who served in the military there years earlier and didn't understand why a citizen would need a gun when the military handles all threats to the state. All the threats he faced came from the other side of the border.
Guns are important for our protection. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow. But they are an insurance policy for if tyrannical or unconstitutional governmental actions in the future. When people say "I don't know why people need weapons," this is the very reason why it exists. Granted warfare, technology, society, and laws have changed since the founding fathers wrote the second amendment; but it does not change the validity of their views and why it was written in the first place. If farmers and citizens did not have weapons back then, there would have been no militia, no minutemen, no army to fight the British. Using this argument the second amendment can also help protect us from foreign governments as well.
TLDR: The second amendment, unlike what I find a lot of people say, is NOT for hunting or for personal protection from criminals. While firearms can be used for these purposes, in addition to as a hobby and a sport, it is used as a civilian defense against the government.

2023.03.29 04:25 bbyxbunnyx CRA gave me CWB - I didn't claim in on my return

Hi all,
I just filed my tax return and received my express NOA and it was adjusted to give me the CWB, however I was a student for one semester for Fall 2022. I entered my T2202 info in Schedule 11 so I don't understand why I would be given the benefit since I provided info that I was in school full time. I worked full time from Jan to Aug of 2022 if that might pertain to this.
I mistakenly claimed CWB a few years ago unaware of the ineligibility for students and ended up having to pay it back so I don't want a repeat of that situation. It's why I made sure to NOT claim it this year.
How do I go about sorting this out (if I even need to)? I've never entered a T2202 before so I hope Schedule 11 was the right spot. Should I call the CRA and ask them to take back the extra money?

You really do worship the devil, don’t ya? You see for all the actions that I do, I do it with a purpose and I’m here for a reason. You see, no one is born the devil. Everyone is an angel until they’re bogged down and they need to become the devil to rise back up again. I was an angel and I was made the devil and I am here with vengeance, I am here with a hit-list. I have been on the receiving end of a lot of sins and now as the greatest sinner of them all, I am going to purify all of them, starting of course with Orange Cassidy.
You see Cassidy, you are everything that’s wrong with this industry. I treat this as an art form, you treat it like a joke. I’m gonna put you through hell and then we’ll see how much sloth is left in your style.

And then there was darkness.....
The lights go out. Bray Wyatt’s mask forms on the titantron as in the background all the toys from the Firefly Funhouse are hung on nooses and Cult Leader Bray’s rocking chair on fire. Bray Wyatt walks out with the same old lantern but the new mask. He walks to the ring as there is dead silence in the arena.
He enters the ring and blows the lantern and removes his mask. He takes to the mic and he just stares down the lens and says two words. “I’m Sorry
He circles the ring grabbing his head and then he speaks again.
I am a sinner. I have committed eternal sin.I have done bad, bad things all in chase of glory. At first I was just a messenger but then over time, I sold my soul to the devil. My soul belonged to The All Father. He was my dark passenger but I have failed him time and time again and he left me at my lowest point. Alone, a shell of myself, a broken, deadbeat man but my devotion didn’t waiver. I am still his pagan and I’ll do anything to have him take me back. That brings me to Edge. Edge, Consider yourself lucky. The Dark Father must have truly seen something special in you for he offers you his protection, all you have to do is stop hiding. Darkness is often portrayed as the voice of evil, it’s not that, it’s a way of life. You need to accept the Darkness inside you Edge. Embrace it, Embrace him.
Wyatt drops the microphone and puts on his mask again but he doesn’t leave, however he takes a steel chair as he sits on the ringside as if someone told him who was coming next.
The clock ticks zero.
Karrion Kross and Scarlett have arrived
Kross and Scarlett make their entrance, almost not even acknowledging Wyatt’s presence. Kross gears up in the corner for his qualifying match against Cody Deaner.
Karrion Kross vs Cody Deaner
(The match starts when Deaner just charges at Kross but he sidesteps as Deaner crashes hard in the corner. Kross smashes the forearms to Deaner’s back and hits a big Saito Suplex. Deaner gets up but Kross catches up to him and hits another Saito Suplex. He boots Deaner in the face and deadlifts him with a powerbomb. Kross mounts Deaner and starts a ground and pound attack. Deaner throws Kross out and then starts to make a comeback but its stopped dead in its tracks with a belly to belly suplex. Deaner gets up as Kross runs at him from behind to hit the Kross Hammer as he falls face first on the middle rope facing Wyatt. Kross chokes Deaner out with his knee as he makes eye contact with Wyatt. He picks Deaner up and locks in the Kross Jacket and Deaner passes out pretty quickly.)
Karrion Kross def. Cody Deaner
After the match, Kross and Scarlett celebrate in the ring. Wyatt gets up, removes his mask and slides it in the ring. He blows a kiss to Scarlett and leaves.

Nakamura comes out to his NJPW theme in his NJPW WrestleKingdom 9 gear.
Kazuchika Okada vs Shinsuke Nakamura
(From opposite corners, Okada and Nakamura stare holes into each other’s souls. Nakamura mouths, “No Punches?” from his end as Okada replies “No Punches”. The bell rings as the two faces of CHAOS walk towards each other. Nakamura takes one hand to his back and extends the other for a handshake. Okada hesitates but gives in but Naka withdraws his hand at the last moment to fix his hair. Okada looks pissed as he grabs Shinsuke Nakamura’s head and starts caving in forearm strikes. Naka quickly gains control with forearms and a knee to the gut which sends Okada back. Nakamura shrugs and hits a big knee lift to Okada’s chest. Nakamura grabs Okada from behind for a back suplex but Okada lands on his feet and knocks Nakamura out with a lariat. Nakamura gets to his knees but Okada grabs him in the front headlock and hits a big DDT. Nakamura sells the damage and gets right back up as Okada gets him up with a fireman’s carry and looks for the Death Valley Driver but Nakamura elbows him repeatedly to get out of it followed by a huge roundhouse kick. Okada falls to his knees as Nakamura hits a big knee strike right at Okada’s face. As Okada is down, Nakamura starts attacking his arm to soften the Rainmaker. Okada however, mounts a comeback and gets back up to his feet attacking Nakamura but a combination of elbows and knees fells Okada again.
Naka picks Okada up and goes for the back suplex but Okada rolls back to his feet. Picks up Nakamura and hits a big emerald flowsion but it only gets a two count. Okada picks up Naka again and irish whips Nakamura into the corner but Nakamura springboards up to the top rope and goes for a moonsault but Okada catches him and turns it into a tombstone piledriver. Okada goes to the top and hits a big elbow drop on Nakamura but that further aggravates his arm injury. Okada crawls to get a pin but only gets a one count and Nakamura kips right up too. Okada gets up as Nakamura unleashes a combination of strikes his way repeatedly kicking Okada’s injured arm. After one such kick, Okada no sells it and slaps Nakamura square in the face followed by a big dropkick. Okada picks him up and finally hits the death valley driver. Okada goes to the corner and looks for Nakamura to come up as he hits a Bomaye of his own. Okada follows this up and goes for the Rainmaker but Nakamura ducks and hits a german suplex as both men are down.
Both men get to their knees and have a forearm battle in the middle of the ring. Okada gets the better of this exchange with a wicked headbutt. Okada has the upper hand as he hits a gotch style piledriver on Nakamura, goes for the pin but Naka kicks out. Okada grabs his arms and gets him up, he looks for another rainmaker but in a last ditch effort, Nakamura grabs his arm leaps and turns it into a cross armbreaker. Okada struggles in the submission but doesnt tap out. Nakamura rises and wrenches the submission even harder but this lights a fire under Okada as he gets up and smashes Nakamura’s head in with forearm smashes and breaks free. Nakamura is on his knees as Okada walks to him and hits a few more forearm strikes and he gets him up and hits a hard looking german suplex dropping Nakamura on his neck. Okada doesn’t leave it as he turns the german suplex into a rainmaker with the other arm. He crawls for a pin and gets the win.)
Kazuchika Okada def. Shinsuke Nakamura
The crowd give both of them a standing ovation as medical personnel help carry both of them on the ramp. Okada offers a handshake and Nakamura takes this one as they get free from the medical personnel and help carry each other’s limping to the back.
CHAOS is forever.

2023.03.29 04:09 NotPraisedNotABother Hope is a Heart-Killer

This story contains existential material some readers may find distressing. Please be advised.

Nine o'clock on the dot on a Sunday morning, James Newton put on his suit and tie—tweed and checkered yellow, the ones he wore to his parents' funeral—and spent fifteen minutes in front of the mirror psyching himself up. "Come on, James," he urged his reflection. "A miracle, that's what you need. Gimme a miracle, somethin' that'll make this whole thing go away!"
He told himself that, and he got excited for the good news he would surely receive, and he got ready to go out the door. Three times he did this, and right as his hand touched the knob, he suddenly found he had to go back for another go at it.
Eventually, though, there was only so much psyching up he could muster. He finally left his apartment, walked down many flights of stairs, and got on his way walking down the street to his appointment.
It was a beautiful day. The sky was clear of any clouds or smog, a rare thing indeed, and the sun was merrily shining. Birds chirped, though their song was somewhat obscured by the roar of passing aeromobiles as they zipped by in the skyways. Below, where roads were needed no longer, the people were out and about on the promenade in their Sunday best, going about their business and having a grand old time.
James fit right in, a smile plastered on his face and a nod for everyone he passed. He swung his arms easily and let his gait fall into a comfortable strut, and no one would suspect a thing was wrong; no sir, no one at all.
James' path took him right into the heart of the city, where buildings rose to two and even three stories tall, brick-built all of them, with a marble state building here and a library there, and the sky was filled with aeromobiles. Trees grew in their little holes in the center of the promenades, and small gardens and parks littered the places where parking lots used to be. A flock of pigeons pecked at the ground around the garbage bin for people's leftovers. James scattered some crumbs from his pocket that he'd prepared just for them. "Good will to all the world!" he said heartily to the flying rats. "Good will, or who knows what might happen? Ha ha!"
His destination was a private practice in the middle of a lot park, fenced in with a tree in each corner, ferns and vines imported from somewhere stretching from leafy branch to leafy branch. The building itself was brick, of course (God's chosen building material, that), and space enough for only one corridor and three rooms—a waiting room, the good doctor's office, and the operating room. Humility was all anyone needed these days, and by God the owner of this establishment was practically drowning in it.
James pushed through the glass door into the waiting room with gusto. "Morning, Caroline!" he greeted the secretary by her desk. "I'm here for my appointment!"
She smiled up at him. Caroline was a sweetheart to be sure. "Hello Mister Newton," she told him. "The doctor's in if you want to get to it. You know he doesn't have anyone else to see."
"That I do, miss, that I do." James unbuttoned his suit and went to hang it on the coatrack in the corner. "Don't mind if I leave my jacket here, do you, Miss Caroline?"
"Please do!"
"Thaaank you kindly." James cleared his throat. "I'll just be on my way back then!" He stepped back into the corridor and strode to the good doctor's office with a whistlin' tune and readjusting his tie. Good thoughts, James, he reminded himself. Good thoughts and good will only, and you're sure to get good news in return!

"I'm terribly sorry, Mister Newton." The good doctor's voice was tinny and cool as his steel exterior. "Your diagnosis has not changed. I predict you have six months to live, possibly less."
James couldn't look at him. He couldn't look anywhere 'cept the linoleum beneath his best brown dress shoes. The ones he wore to his parents' funeral.
He didn't know if he could speak. He tried anyway. "I thought—" He swallowed the frog in his throat. "I thought I was gettin' better."
The good doctor leaned forward across his desk, his metal hands folded in front of him. "Mister Newton, I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that your chances were good, even probable. The truth is that very few people with your diagnosis live long after symptoms begin to appear, and you are well on your way to showing symptoms. I believe you were told—"
"I remember," James said hoarsely. He chanced a look at the wall to his left, then had to look away again. It had a poster of a cat hanging to a branch that said, Hang in there! in a speech bubble. It didn't make him feel better.
He tried looking at the good doctor instead. That was a mistake as well; James couldn't help it, and he knew it weren't fair, but something about the doctor's unmoving expression and cold lamplit eyes gave him the chills something awful.
He looked back down at his shoes. "What can I— what can I expect?" His voice wobbled. "Is it gonna hurt? When the symptoms start showing up?"
"Oh, I imagine so," the good doctor replied. He stood and went to pull a projector screen from its holster in the ceiling, as wide as man's wingspan. The doctor touched something at the top, and graphs and timelines filled the screen. It was one of those special screens; the ones that didn't need light shining on them to show pictures.
"See here," the doctor said, pointing to one of the graphs. "Around this time, about a week from now I'd say if my projections hold, your throat will begin to constrict and lose some of its elasticity, making it harder to breath and swallow food and drink. It will only take a week more before you're completely unable to do either. I suggest seeking hospice before then, the medical professionals should be more than capable of providing equipment that can ease the burden on your body to perform these functions. During this time, however, you'll have these symptoms to start looking out for as well…"
The good doctor's voice blurred and became background noise. James clenched his hands tighter and tighter together between his knees as the robot droned on and on about the terrible, painful things he would endure before he finally died.
Good things, James, he thought to himself desperately. Good will and good news will come to you eventually. Good will and good news will…
But the good doctor just kept droning on.

The drink plunked down on the bar before him. "There you are, chum, your fifth Molly's Got It All of the night! You sure are looking to forget something fierce, aren't ya?"
James pushed up his head and looked at the robot serving drinks at an awkward angle. The bartender's voice was just as unnatural as the good doctor's; only, where the doctor was cool and neutral even with a scalpel in hand and a terminal diagnosis in his processor, the bartender was painfully, infinitely cheerful.
He took his drink and swallowed half of it. "Thanks barkeep," James slurred. "Y' really know how to take care of a guy." He sluggishly raised his glass in celebration, but the bartender had already moved on to the next customer, that tinny, unnatural cheer stabbing James' ears.
He shook his head and scoffed into his glass before he took another drink. Good news and good news and good news.
"Bartender's right," a voice to his left said. A human voice, teasing. "You really are lookin' to forget."
James listed that way and looked at the person up and down. The lady was dressed in oversized overalls, big black construction boots and a button-up beneath it all, flatcap pushing her unruly curls into submission. Construction worker chic. She had a smile on her face just shy of a smirk.
James looked for a moment more before grunting and turning back to his drink. "I got my diagnosis back today," he said, not caring who heard. "I'm on my way south."
"Aw, shoot," the woman said sympathetically. "Well that's too bad, I'm sorry to hear it."
"Yeah." James polished off the last half of his drink and raised his hand to get the bartender's attention. "Same thing that killed my daddy." And my mama, he added in his head, but she din't have the same disease. Naw, it was his daddy dying from it that killed her. She couldn't live without him.
"Nothing the doc can do?" the woman asked gently as the bartender came over.
"Naw." James ordered another Molly's Got It All. Dangerous, he knew, but he was already going to die, so he might as well splurge. No one to take care of at home, no one to take care of him, so he din't have to care.
"You be sure to drink some water now, friend," the barkeep said even as he made a new drink and set it before James. "You're deep in your cups now."
"Yeah, yeah." James waved the bartender away and sipped from his sixth Molly before realizing the woman was still looking at him. "What?" The question came out ruder than he meant.
Her eyes sparkled in the low-key bar light. "I find you interesting." Her smirk stretched into a smile of the same kind.
James flushed. He liked her attention, but… "Sorry," he said, looking into his cup. "I don't think you want to get mixed up with me. Dying and all."
"Oh, who said anything about anything?" the woman dismissed. She scooted her stool closer to James' and leaned her chin on her hands, looking at him with that smile of hers. "Annabelle," she introduced herself, "if you'd like to know. And if you'd want to return the favor…" she trailed off expectantly.
James flushed deeper and found himself smiling back. "Jem—" He cleared his throat and tried to focus his drunken brain. "I'm James." He thrust his hand towards her for a handshake without thinking about it and felt stupid.
Annabelle looked at his hand with raised eyebrows, then took his hand in hers and shook it. "It's very nice to meet you, Mister James," she said in a serious tone. It was the twinkle in her eyes what betrayed her. "Now why don't you tell me what's going on?"

They talked for hours after that. Well, James talked, mostly, but whenever he tried to direct a question at Annabelle she returned the prompt to him, asking a deeper, more thoughtful question than a heavily inebriated man could come up with, so of course he went along with her. They talked so late nearly everyone else had gone, but there were no closing hours courtesy of the barkeep, so there was no rush. James couldn't get anymore Mollys after a time, though, owing to the alcohol limit law programmed in the bartender's processor and all.
But he didn't care. He was enthralled with Annabelle and her thoughtful questions and her genuine interest in him. At least, she seemed genuine, but James was too drunk to tell. All he knew was that it felt nice to have someone to talk to, finally.
And he did talk a lot. He told Annabelle things he hadn't told anybody, alcohol loosening his lips. He talked about his mama and his daddy, his childhood home out in the boonies where they didn't have no aeromobiles or robot doctors, his friends growing up and the games they used to play. He talked about school, and neighbors, and hopes and dreams, and sorrows, too.
He told her about his parents' deaths. That wasn't the first or last time he'd cried that night. He told her about his daddy's affliction, the thing what put him in the grave, and the thing that would put him there too. "It was so hard, watchin' him those last few days," James said, wiping at his eyes with his sleeve. "He couldn't get out of bed, with all those tubes in him and what not, and he couldn't talk, obviously, and Mama couldn't stand it either even if she didn't say so, but the doctors said, they always said, 'It's our oath to help people, ma'am, if there's even a percent of a chance we can save them.'" He shook his head. "My mama used to say to that, she used to say," he gave a snort of amusement, "'doctors: they're gonna help you, even if it kills you.'"
Annabelle smiled at that and rubbed his back. She'd gotten real close to him over the night's conversation. So close James could feel her there even when he wasn't lookin'. It made him flush and blush and gave him the butterflies, the amount of attention she was giving him. Thoughts of his impending demise were banished by her wonderful smile.
He didn't want her to go away. He didn't want to think about death again. "Hey," he said hesitantly, wondering if his request was appropriate. "D'you think… well, do you think we could—"
Annabelle smiled wider and put a hand on his arm and gave it a squeeze. "Honey, I was thinking the exact same thing." She patted his hand. "Just let me freshen up in the ladies' room and we can get going, yeah?"
James' heart leapt into heaven. He agreed enthusiastically, and Annabelle slipped off her stool and went into the back to the ladies' restroom, leaving James by himself positively brimming with joy.
Ten minutes went by. Then fifteen. Then twenty.
James started to get anxious. He wanted to go and check on her, but, well, was that too much? The bartender asked him if he wanted to pay his bill, but James distractedly said he'd pay while he was heading out with Annabelle.
Thirty minutes passed. Forty.
"Y'know," he said aloud, mostly to himself as he got up from his seat, "I think I will check on her, y'know, in case something happened to her." He wouldn't go in, obviously, but he could always knock, right? So James went to the back of the bar and knocked on the door to the ladies' room. "Annabelle? You okay in there?"
There was no answer.
James' fear peaked. "Barkeep," he called, "can you check the ladies' room with your sensors? I think my friend might be hurt."
The metal man behind the bar looked up from the glass he was polishing. "I'm sorry, mate, I didn't want to say anything according to how much I saw you enjoying her company, but I'm pretty sure your lady friend up and booked it from my establishment almost an hour ago. My scanners are only picking up one body signature, and that's yours." Analytical words, all spoken with the stupid cheer of an empty-headed tin man.
Fear became disappointment. "You sure?" James asked, hoping against hope.
"Scanners don't lie!" the bartender replied.
Peachy. Just excellent. Good news and good news, James thought bitterly. Crestfallen, he slumped back to the bar and sighed, "Guess I'll pay my bill, then."
"Right-o!" The bartender whipped over to the cash register and waited for James to sullenly follow him there.
He reached into his suit pocket. Then his other one.
Where was his wallet?
"Something the matter?" the bartender pipped.
James couldn't handle the robot's overly happy voice right now. "Yes, just—give me a moment," he nearly growled, reaching inside his suit jacket to the pocket there.
Nothing. He patted his pants and the back of his pants. Nothing. James crouched low to look at the ground beneath his stool and nothing. "I—" He didn't know what to say. He'd had his wallet walking in. Had to; needed his worker card to get served. Where could it have—
By now the alcohol had worn off enough that James could mostly use his brain. He put two and two together and realized what had happened. "I'm sorry, but I think my wallet was stolen," he told the bartender, stricken. He hadn't noticed; but of course he hadn't noticed. He'd been drunk. Very drunk. And Annabelle had known that, if that was even her real name.
"Well, I'm sorry to hear that!" Again, the unnatural cheer, especially considering his next words. "And I'm sorry to say that if you can't pay, I'll have to be calling the sheriffs!"
"What?" James stared at the bartender. "I can't just open a tab and pay it off later?"
"Sorry, no can do!" The robot was already moving towards the rotary phone on his side of the bar. "My processor isn't powerful enough to retain information longer or more complicated than my regulars' names and the laws I was programmed with, and I'm afraid I wasn't programmed to read or write! If you want to blame anyone, blame the Howie Blayton Manufacturing Company!"
Good news and good news and good news. James felt a horrible sinking feeling in his stomach. Stranded in the local detainment center while his body collapsed in on itself? No way!
"Hey there officer!" the bartender said brightly into the transmitter. "I'd like to report a miscreant here at—hey, where are you going?"
The door was already closing behind James as he fled into the night.

He ran until he was sweating through his nice tweed suit and breathing so heavy he wheezed. He hadn't made it as far as he would have just weeks ago. It felt like his throat was caving in.
James looked around. He was standing on a little bridge that spanned a creek to a forest path, an overgrown jungle of a place. The grass was so long it hung from the lip of the creek bed to the still water below.
He was still in the heart of the city, but the roar of aeromobile traffic was far away. He must be at the edge of one of the city's massive replanting projects.
He sat down heavily on the bridge, letting his legs dangle. Good news, his mama always said. Good thoughts and good will, and good news will come to you. She said that while daddy was sick in bed and she sat by his side. She never left his side, really. James had had to work double shift at his delivery job just to keep things afloat, there.
And now he was soon to be right where his daddy was, and no one like his mama would be there for him.
James thought he had cried all he could cry that night, but tears began to form in his eyes and spill down his cheeks nonetheless. He put his face in his hands and let the sobs wrack his aching throat once again.
As he cried, a secret memory unearthed itself in James' mind. It was a memory from long ago, back when his daddy was dying, on one of the rare moments his mama left to go to her job and take care of things on her own instead of relying on James. James, like his mama, barely left his daddy's side when he could manage it.
And on that day, while his mama was far away, James watched as his daddy suddenly began to thrash and writhe, flinging the tubes in his mouth and his stomach and his private parts every which way, his eyes rolled back in his head. Little ten-year-old James didn't know whether his daddy was awake or half-comatose, but he knew he was scared, and he couldn't be scared. Scared weren't a good thought, and James needed to think good thoughts.
So he tried to calm his daddy by telling him how brave he was, how everything was gonna be alright and mama would be home any minute—but his father couldn't hear him.
"Shauna!" his daddy shouted, voice obscured by the tube jammed down his throat. "James! I can't see, Goddammit—Shauna! Shauna, where are you?!"
James was terrified. He reached to grab his daddy's hand before remembering that he couldn't touch him 'cause it would hurt him. "Daddy," James cried. "Daddy, it's alright, I'm here!"
"Shauna! Shauna!" Tears were rolling down Daddy's cheeks, his unseeing eyes staring terrified at the ceiling. "Shauna!" he sobbed. "Shauna, I'm scared! I'm scared!"
"No!" James shouted over his daddy. "No, you can't say that, daddy, good thoughts! Only good thoughts, you gotta—"
His father's thrashing grew more violent as he continued to be unable to hear his son. One of the tubes lashed James across the face, and he fell to the ground screaming. On the floor, James could only see the writhing blankets and the occasional flash of a hand, all while his daddy sobbed and screamed like a child having a nightmare he couldn't wake up from.
Mama came home to find James sobbing on the floor and her husband dead under the covers.
A secret memory, and a secret fear. James remembered the terror on his daddy's face as he died. He remembered his father's blindness, his father's deafness, all caused by his disease. He remembered his father, unable to be touched, machines surrounding him, nothing anyone could do for him.
James remembered his daddy crying for his wife, unable to tell that his son was right next to him. Even with someone there, his daddy had died alone.
Alone. And there was nothing anyone could do.
James clutched at his hair and breathed through gritted teeth. He didn't want to die alone. He moaned in fear, his teeth chattered, he rocked himself back and forth on the edge of that little bridge. He didn't want to die alone.
But he would. Even if he wasn't, he would die alone, and all the good intentions and good thoughts in the world wouldn't save him. Everyone dies alone. No one can share in your last moments, even if they're right next to you. No one will know, even if they care so much for you they'd die without you. You're trapped in your head until the bitterest end.
James wailed and beat at his legs with his fists and screamed at the unfairness. He didn't want to die alone!
"I don't want to die alone!" he shouted into the night. The night did not respond.
He continued to sob and scream and wail, all alone.

2023.03.29 04:00 kahthey Passed in 75 after failing in 75. 5 YEARS out of nursing school, you CAN do it!

Just wanted to spread a little positivity to those who feel like giving up because they've failed or they graduated so long ago. I graduated in May of 2018 and I'd say I was an average student grade-wise throughout nursing school but I was overwhelmed after graduating and decided to take a "break." This break then led to life happening: getting married, moving across the country, deciding to take my NCLEX on a whim 8 months after graduating with only having done MAYBE 60 questions max on UWorld thinking "I got this!"- I in fact did not "have this" and failed in about 189 questions. I convinced myself this was just a fluke and scheduled to retake it for the second time as soon as the 45 days passed. I started studying again, did more UWorld questions, was studying Saunders and had even signed up for the Kaplan review, but life happened once again and I was thrown a curveball in the form of a divorce. I spiraled into a depression but chose not to reschedule my exam and this time: I failed in 75. I moved back home and tabled nursing as I had to take care of myself and my mental health. The pandemic happened, went back into hospitality as this was what I knew and was even advancing career wise in my field. Yet I woke up one day and realized that while I was good at what I was doing, it wasn't the career I wanted and with support from my family & boyfriend- I quit my job in November of 2022 and began the process of getting my ATT again.

How I did it:
I began my journey studying in December by going to the library 5 days a week for 8 hours at a time. That first month I focused on reading Saunders Comprehensive review on the subjects I downright could not remember while I waited for my state to get back to me about my ATT. By early January when I was finally able to schedule my NCLEX and I knew I wanted to avoid the Next Gen so I scheduled for mid March in another city. At this point I stopped reading the Saunders book and found the Mark Klimex's audios and someones 91 pages of notes (whoever you are, THANK YOU.) I started every morning at the library by doing 60 UWorld questions and then STUDYING the shit out of the rationale, as in not moving on until I understood the "why" (by the end I filled an entire notebook on just UWorld notes.) Afterwards I'd take a 45 minute lunch outside and go right back inside to listen to one Klimex audio a day and follow along with the notes I printed and add my own alongside. When I finished all 12 audios I turned my second half of studying into watching all of Simple Nursings pharmacology videos and taking notes on each one as well. These are the notes I would read every night before bed. I built good testing habits and saw my UWorld scores go from below average in the 30's-40's to maintaining above average in the mid 60's and higher. A week and half before my test I had finished the entire UWorld question bank. I took this time to go over ALL my notes but also I slowed down on my 5-6 days at the library and truly relaxed- the weekend prior I went on a 2 night vacation and was just going over my notes for about 4ish hours a day. I drove to the city I'd be testing at the day prior to my NCLEX and re-listened to Klimex's lecture 12.

On the day of my exam I wasn't nervous, I didn't feel like I was going to throw up like I did the other two times. I walked into the testing center with a game plan: you're sitting for all 145 questions- no expectations, take your time and read EVERY question and answer choice, use the white board provided to "cross out" answer options, take a break every 40 questions, eat your snacks and just breathe. When I took my break at 40 questions I remember already being over an hour into the exam but I took my time to use the bathroom, eat some snacks I brought and just give myself words of affirmation because I was starting to internally freak out over the fact that the test felt too easy so far. I sat back down and when I saw question 70 I told myself "10 more and you can go eat another snack again!" You can imagine my face when it shut off at 75. Think Pikachu surprise face. I didn't let myself freak out because I truly felt like I KNEW what I was answering. Went out to dinner with some family in town that night and couldn't resist doing the Pearson Vue trick: I GOT THE GOOD POP-UP. I didn't want to get my hopes too high and was still waiting the 48 hours for the quick results. Turns out my boyfriend was looking for my name on my states BON and by 1PM the next day (24 hours after my test) my license was posted!

I officially passed 13 days ago, and received my license in the mail on Thursday and it still feels surreal. If you've read this far, I just want to say thank you and please believe in yourself, you WILL pass. One day at a time. There were days that I'd cut my studying short because I was overwhelmed but I learned it's about continuing to pick yourself up and believing in yourself, leaning on those who are there for you.

TL;DR: Graduated in May of 2018, life happened, took the NCLEX twice in 2019- failed both times. Fast forward 4ish years and realized I wasn't happy in my career field. Quit my job, studied full time, and passed my NCLEX in 75 question on March 15th. If you really want something, you CAN do it.

2023.03.29 03:46 smokedpebble Part 3 - time to unload and move on

Details will be kept vague and names left out including agency. I can't avoid that some super sleuth will figure it out
I finally heard back from the agency IG:
"This email is in response to your assistance request dated 18 October 2022, to the XXXX Inspector General with a request to “investigate the entire XXXX XXXX XXXX crew based in XXXX for T&A and JTR voucher fraud while on TDY orders to XXXX in the fall of 2021, and falsifying USCG license application, XXXX inspection logs and daily reports for 2021”. A inquiry was submitted to the command regarding the matters presented in your request for assistance. A review of the commands response determined the issues presented in your request for assistance were addressed.
Please contact the Office of Counsel at XXXX with any additional questions. This office will take no further action regarding this matter."
So let's get this straight - I provide names, details, and documents and your only step is to contact the actual office that failed to follow through in the first place????
What are they going to do? Admit they failed? NO. They'll cover their own ass.
THIS IS WHY THE FED SYSTEM IS BROKEN IN SO MANY WAYS
So here's the full scoop.
I took on a role that had gone unfilled for almost 2 years. No one within the region wanted the position. I learned within 6 months why. I had two problem children - my 1st line supervisor and the office admin. All hearsay re: the former - he had run off multiple subordinates over the previous decade, consolidated his hold on a vacant position to make himself indispensable, and kept his next in line "in the dark" from an operational and licensing standpoint so no one else could do his job (i.e. see indispensable). It got to the point where he targeted (literally) another employee and had the other crew harass, throw his gear away and shoot him with paintball guns. The investigation was a wash because this super leveled accusations of an off duty bar assault with this other guy while TDY.
So in I come to assume a leadership role...6 months in...stunned. It gets better.
I spend the better part of 2019 and 1st quarter of 2020 meeting repeatedly with the admin. 7 years OTJ and she struggles with basic T&A and travel functions. Monthly meetings. Missed assignments (big ones, think along the lines of several agency staff and another agency come in and audit the travel financial mess). I PIP her. Takes HR and OC 3 months to approve the plan. Meet nearly daily with her during the 90-days. She failed. Recommend termination. By this point, it's DEC 2020 so we hold off til after the holidays to be nice. Next union process unfolds and senior leader is out so acting head decides I didn't mentor or provide enough training. By this time, it's APR 2021.
I start looking for another job BUT it gets better.
I have learned enough about my 1st line super to manage him (barely) BUT our agency has similar crews five to be exact) at three other offices. I am getting to know those supervisors and learn just how different my crew operates. I begin slow roll potential changes for the 2022 season. Yes, you read that right, a full year out, so I could get discussion going and not blindside them, especially the super. What am I trying to change? My crew routinely had 4-5 members exceed the 250 OT threshold. No other crews even came close. My crew pressed every TDY order so they could VR each night (trust me, creates JTR nightmares especially with the admin I had) but it also raised massive red flags with our finance director who wanted TDY to be better above board for audit compliance.. Then what happens?
Juneteenth.
You'd think "what? this is a holiday". Unless you are on a CWS and said holiday falls on your day off. All other crew took an in lieu holiday. Not the super. He requested, in writing, to be paid. Then turned around and filed a union grievance. Took 3 months for an easy resolution - withhold the two hours of premium pay he received above and beyond that pay period and restore his in lieu but this was only the beginning.
That JUN 2022, with him participating in the application review process, I DHA'd a USCG veteran to join us. Knowing the hearsay about this super (let's call him Bob because it gets better), I realized on this new guy's (call him Joe) first day that he and Bob would not get along. They didn't.
Fast forward to SEP and Joe requests to deploy for hurricane relief and that he wants to talk with me when he returns. During AUG and SEP, I also head out to where the crew is TDY to spot check work. Both times I arrive at 0530. Crew should be there by 0600. NOPE. They roll in between 0630-0730. I let Bob know this is a problem he needs to address nd don't let it happen again.
Joe returns. I do another spot check. Everyone is late.
Joe proceeds to unload how Bob has sidelined him, yells and belittles not just him but all the crew, and has threatened to PIP him. Bob has also refused to endorse Joe for a USCG license so mid OCT when the season is winding down and Bob goes on leave, Joe asks me to sign off on his documents because I am the higher level supervisor and authorized to do so. Joe also informs me that Bob withheld fully endorsing another employee for the correct USCG license causing this guy to sit with a lower endorsement, not fully capable of relieving Bob, and having to wait another year before he can advance. I already had two other minor issues with Bob so I coordinate with the region EEO and my office's HR and OC. I am given the approval to start an informal EEO investigation. Why it was not formal is beyond me and in hindsight, ludicrous.
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD
Bob learns (1) that I am investigating him (this is after I have talked with 5 employees) and learned even more damning stuff and (2) that I endorsed Joe for a USCG license.
What do I do? I immediately get a Teams meeting with EEO, HR and OC to discuss next steps BUT sniper shot.
Bob and his union rep file a formal EEO grievance against me and it gets better.
Bob verbally attacks Joe and threatens to report Joe and I to the USCG for falsifying gov docs. Bob and the union rep put this in an email too and accuse me of gov property theft and threaten to report us all to both agency IG's. Yes, because pulling stuff out of the dumpster is theft? if you want details cuz you question this, dm me.
What happens then?
I pull all security logs from the TDY location and discover it's not just my three spot checks. They worked anywhere from 2-8 hours a day for nearly 4 months when they were on a 4/10, CWS. So T&A fraud and related JTR voucher fraud.
it gets better.
Bob's USCG accusations prompt me to review his last endorsement. Turns out this guy needed 2 years of work time at his job before he could get the endorsement BUT he had only been working with us, in this field of work, for 15 months before he got his license.
If it's this bad, what else are they lying about? So I request their daily work logs and safety inspection files. I receive them the next day and for some odd reason something doesn't seem right. I check one docs file properties and see it's dated from several months back in the doc but the file property shows it was created the day before. I randomly grab more. All created within 1-2 hours of each other.
So now I'm like what's next?
How about a special agency investigation of me! I unload all of the above info heavily documented.
I'm out. I accept a 14 with another agency.
What happened to Joe? He went on LWOP status in DEC 2021, got his USCG license a couple months later and left the agency too.
What happened to Bob and Co.? As you can see, nothing. Bob is still there.
Cathartic getting that out into a "public" domain.
Only thing I would change above is pushing for a formal EEO investigation on Bob, and the admin? I'd have pushed for a chapter 75 performance plan and review:
vhttps://www.mspb.gov/studies/adverse_action_report/4_Performance-Based%20Actions.htm#:~:text=Some%20officials%20may%20opt%20for,the%20agency%20has%20proven%20the

So while there are some pokers still in the fire (the above details were provided to two Reps and a local newspaper), I am officially done.

Speaker of Parliament meets Bundestag President in Germany, calls for sanctions against Azerbaijan

Speaker Simonyan said that Armenia attaches great importance to the implementation of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and appreciates Germany’s support in this matter.
Speaking about the post-war situation and the need for urgent solutions to regional security issues, Speaker Simonyan said that the no less destructive developments happening in South Caucasus – around Armenia and the Armenian-populated Nagorno Karabakh – are overlooked by many.
At the request of Bas, Simonyan presented details on the crisis in Lachin Corridor, the danger facing the blockaded 120,000 Armenians of Artsakh and the multi-layered humanitarian problems.
Simonyan warned that Azerbaijan is seeking to forcefully displace the Armenian population before the eyes of the whole world by continuing its policy of ethnic cleansing and creating unbearable living conditions.
The Speaker of Parliament reminded that the United Nations’ highest court – the International Court of Justice (ICJ) – issued a binding ruling on February 22, ordering Azerbaijan to “take all steps at its disposal” to ensure unimpeded movement of persons, vehicles and cargo along the Lachin Corridor in both directions.
“We expect our German colleagues to take practical steps to ensure the immediate implementation of the court’s decision by Azerbaijan through the application of sanctions against Azerbaijan,” Simonyan said.

Azerbaijani troops breached line of contact and advance into Nagorno Karabakh

In violation of the 9 November 2020 trilateral statement, the Azerbaijani forces breached the line of contact in the Shushi-Lisagor section on March 25 and secured some “positional advance”, the official Information Center of Nagorno Karabakh reported.
The Nagorno Karabakh authorities immediately notified the Russian peacekeepers on this yet another violation by Azerbaijan.
“The authorities expect the peacekeeping contingent to take practical steps for eliminating the consequences of this violation and preventing new violations,” the Information Center said in a statement.
“Azerbaijan’s false claim on the alleged use of the Stepanakert-Ghaybalishen-Lisagor mountain road for arms shipments is simply a pretext for their own renewed aggressive and destructive actions. They ambushed and killed three on-duty police officers and injured another on March 5 under this same pretext. The government of Artsakh has numerously said that in conditions of the ongoing blockade since December 12, the given mountain road is used for civilian, urgent connection between Stepanakert and four communities in Shushi region, which is carried out with [high-clearance] large vehicles, given the highly complex and hazardous terrain.
And the existence and normal functioning of the Defense Army doesn’t pose any danger for anyone, because it is envisaged exclusively for self-defense, taking into account the real and direct dangers and threats against the physical existence and safety of the people of Artsakh,” it added.

The incident was reported to the command of the peacekeeping troops of the Russian Federation.

Nagorno Karabakh reacts to Azerbaijani meeting offer

Below is the full statement issued by the foreign ministry of Nagorno Karabakh.
In connection with another proposal made by the Azerbaijani President's Office to hold a meeting between representatives of Azerbaijan and Artsakh in Baku in early April, we consider it necessary to reiterate the principled position of the authorities of the Republic of Artsakh regarding possible discussions with Azerbaijan, their modalities and objectives. The Republic of Artsakh has always advocated and continues to advocate for dialogue and a peaceful, negotiated solution to all existing problems. We have never refused contacts with the Azerbaijani side, which is evidenced by the meetings held between the representatives of Artsakh and Azerbaijan with the mediation of the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces deployed in Artsakh. The conditions proposed by the Azerbaijani side regarding the place and agenda of the meeting, as well as the context in which the proposal was made, indicate that the goal of the Azerbaijani authorities is not to have genuine discussion on existing problems, but to disrupt a possible dialogue or to impose their own political agenda through coercion, blockade, creating unbearable living conditions and the use of military force. In this regard, we consider it necessary to recall that three days ago, on 26 March, the Azerbaijani armed forces, in flagrant violation of the trilateral ceasefire statement of 9 November 2020, crossed the line of contact and moved further into the territory of the Republic of Artsakh, in the direction of the unpaved road Stepanakert-Lisagor. Moreover, on 27 March, the Azerbaijani armed forces made another attempt to take control of the mentioned road, which is the only possibility of emergency communication between the communities of Shushi region and other settlements of the republic under the conditions of blockade. We reaffirm our readiness, in line with the established practice of previous meetings, to meet with the representatives of Azerbaijan with the mediation and at the deployment site of the command of the Russian Peacekeeping Contingent in Artsakh to discuss issues of ensuring the normal life activity of the people of Artsakh and the proper implementation by the parties of their obligations, in particular, those related to the unimpeded functioning of the Lachin Corridor. In this context, we consider the reopening of the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia through the Lachin Corridor and addressing the humanitarian, infrastructural and other urgent issues caused by the blockade to be a priority The authorities of Artsakh are also open to discussing other issues, which would not be aimed at imposing ready-made solutions on the part of Azerbaijan, but the search of mutually acceptable solutions to stabilise the situation and prevent further escalation of tension. We emphasize once again that the continued blocking of the Lachin Corridor and aggravation of the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh are unacceptable and in no way contribute to creating an environment conducive to dialogue. We are convinced that only proper implementation by Azerbaijan of its international obligations, both under the Trilateral Statement of 9 November 2020 and the order of the International Court of Justice of 22 February 2023, may testify to Azerbaijan's willingness and interest to address issues through dialogue and negotiations without resorting to coercion and the use of force. We reiterate the inadmissibility of politicisation of dialogue on technical and humanitarian issues and emphasise that the political issues of the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict settlement must be discussed in an agreed and internationally established negotiation format, based on the equal rights of the parties and the existence of solid international guarantees for the implementation by the parties of their obligations.”

Charles Michel conducts separate telephone calls with Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders

On 25 March, European Council President Charles Michel had separate bilateral telephone conversations with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.

Michel reaffirmed the EU’s strong commitment to helping the sides reach a long-awaited normalisation and sustainable peace and expressed concerns about the continuous crisis around the Lachin corridor, the recent casualties and sharp increase in tensions on the ground as well as accompanying negative rhetoric.
The EU top official urged his counterparts to look for compromise solutions and to refrain from any actions that could lead to risks of escalation.
In both calls, the leaders agreed to stay in close contact.

Armenia’s Constitutional Court greenlights ratification of Rome Statute

The High Court ruled today that the Stature corresponds to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.
The decision paves the way for Armenia to join the International Criminal Court.
Although Armenia signed the Rome Statute in 1999, in 2004, the Armenian Constitutional Court ruled that the Statute was partially incompatible with the Armenian constitution and could not be ratified.
The ICC is the world’s first permanent international court to prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Central to the Court’s mandate is the principle of complementarity, which holds that the Court will only intervene if national legal systems are unwilling or unable to investigate and prosecute perpetrators of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
The Armenian Government greenlighted the ratification of the Statue at a sitting of December 29, 2022.

Armenian patriarchate calls on Israeli authorities to take serious measures following attack on St. Mary's Church

Below is the full communiqué released by the chancellery.
“The Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem strongly condemns the attack on the St. Mary’s Church of Gethsemane, which according to the Status Quo of the Holy Places is under the joint control of the Armenian and Greek Orthodox Churches.
Though it was the first attack on St. Mary since the beginning of this year, the Christian Holy Shrines have been in constant state of both physical and emotional duress by rogue attackers. Had these previous attacks on the Christian Holy Places been swiftly condemned by the local authorities leading to the perpetrators’ punishment to the full extent of the law, there would not be an influx of new attacks on the churches and monasteries of these Christian communities.
Religious intolerance and hate crimes in all their forms and perpetrations will never allow the conditions of peaceful co-existence to manifest. In fact, their presence – especially when gone unchecked by prevailing authorities – will encourage other hateful crimes and intolerances to take place. These actions and their lack of condemnation lead to unsafe conditions for these communities and establishes a lack of trust between worshipers, tourists, and residents with the local authorities.
Therefore, we call upon the Israeli Government and the Police to take serious measures to prevent such attacks and to protect both the Christian Holy sites and their daily worshipers from further vandalism and suchlike attacks.”

As a result of the Lernakert excavations, burials attributed to the phase of transition from the middle bronze to the late bronze were discovered.

Burials attributed to the phase of transition from the Middle Bronze to the Late Bronze Age (2nd half of the 16th century - 1st half of the 15th century BC) were opened, in which both the Middle Bronze Age Red Berd and the Late Bronze Age objects were found. These tombs of the transitional phase (Middle Bronze to Late Bronze) have a retaining wall-cromlech with a diameter of 5-15 meters. The cells are underground, oriented north-south. In the burials attributed to different phases of the Late Bronze Age, the remains were placed in the ways of burial and reburial. Accompanying possessions in these tombs are shells, rarely beads. The tombs belonging to the early Iron Age have retaining wall-cromlechs (8-20 m square), low mounds made of small stones and east-west facing slab cells. Group burials were documented in the Lower Iron Age tombs. It was discovered
On the eastern slope of the hill of the Iron Age fortress Vari Berd, a "wheel-shaped" structure consisting of other adjacent circular structures was confirmed by aerial photography. "Wheel" structures are famous in Armenia in the foothills of Aragats, where they are found in the context of monuments called "desert kites". Remains of the "Spinal" structure were also documented in the highest ancient site of Aragats Mountain, Karmir Sar, where excavations revealed a collection of dragon stone carvings in their original environment. The example of Lernakert is special in that it is documented for the first time in the context of the castle. However, the latter's function is not yet clear.
The Lernakert excavations are important in terms of the study of the Early Bronze Age society. In particular, the research of the ancient DNA of Lernakert has received a wide response, which shows that the skeletons discovered in burials made at the same time, but in different tomb groups, had no family ties. It proves that different superstitions lived in the communities.
The study of the dynamics of changes in the early Bronze Age landscape of Lernakert makes it possible to follow the formation and construction processes of the defense system with the data of two fortresses in one complex. Due to the combination of data from Lernakert burial site with data from Artik, Harichi, Horom, Mastara, Talin and Lchashen, the processes of formation of complex societies in the Late Bronze Age can be outlined. Groups of privileged people, soldiers, religious servants and merchants are noted in castles and burial grounds.
Articles on the results of the excavations were published in Armenian and foreign periodicals, reported both at local and foreign scientific conferences.
The Lernakert archaeological expedition was co-financed by the Shirak Armenological Research Center of the NAS of RA, the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the NAS of RA, the State Committee of Science and the National Association for Armenological Research and Studies (NAASR) within the framework of the theme "Trends of the Bronze Age landscape transformation of the northwestern slopes of Aragats Mountain".

The President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Arman Dilanyan.

"I think the most important function of the Constitutional Court and the Presidency is to be able to monitor how well the Constitution works and is preserved in the Republic of Armenia. I would like to continue our conversation on this topic so that in the future we can decide where we have shortcomings, where we can make it more efficient and most importantly, do it together. I would also like to know your opinion in that regard," said Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Expressing his gratitude for the reception, Arman Dilanyan emphasized that the primary duty of the president is to follow the protection of the Constitution.
"In my opinion, it is the most important function of the presidential institution according to our Constitution. In other words, when we read the Constitution, the very first article is about the institution of the president, according to which the president follows the observance of the Constitution. Dr Sophie Scamps raises Artsakh blockade in Australian Federal Parliament

Dr Scamps said, “A couple of weeks ago, I was treated to a surprise visit in my electorate office by students of the AGBU Alexander Primary School in Duffys Forest in my electorate of Mackellar. AGBU is an independent, co-educational, bilingual English and Armenian Christian school. While I’m absolutely delighted to have received a visit from these year 5 and 6 students, they came with a very serious message. The students presented me with a letter they had written, asking me to address the Australian parliament on a very important matter: the ongoing blockade of the Lachin corridor in Artsakh since 12 December 2022, as part of the ongoing conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”
“The Lachin corridor is a road that connects the Republic of Artsakh to the Republic of Armenia. The letter went on to explain how the supply of food and medicine is running dangerously low as a result of the blockade, and gas supply between Armenia and Artsakh has been cut off.”
“There is a vibrant Armenian community in my electorate of Mackellar, and I’ve had many representations from those people in addition to the schoolchildren. On their behalf, I have made representations to Foreign Minister Wong’s office about this ongoing crisis and met with foreign department specialists to discuss the matter. The crisis affecting the people of Artsakh must not be forgotten or overlooked while the world is distracted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”
ANC-AU Executive Director Michael Kolokossian welcomed the advocacy efforts undertaken by the Year 5 and Year 6 students of AGBU Alexander Primary School.
“During this difficult time, every Armenian-Australian must be advocating for an end to this illegal blockade. It is heartening to see the youngest members of our community play a key role in standing up for their homeland.”
“We thank Dr Scamps for engaging with the Armenian-Australian community and bringing this issue to the floor of parliament. Her principled stance is greatly appreciated as we work to end this blockade,” added Kolokossian.

Sarsang water levels dropping at alarming rate amid blockade, Artsakh authorities say

Since January 9 Azerbaijan has been barring Nagorno Karabakh authorities from accessing and repairing the damaged power transmission line which supplies Nagorno Karabakh with electricity from Armenia.
“The only source of electricity we have now is the Sarsang Reservoir,” Ararat Khachatryan, the acting chairman of the Water Committee of Artsakh said.
“The water levels are over eight meters lower compared to the same period last year. Today the inflow is 4 cumecs, which is a very low indicator. The Tartar flow can reach up to thirty, forty or fifty cumecs. The consumption is a lot higher now. When water levels are high, less water is actually consumed for obtaining electricity, but when the water levels drop, pressure also drops and it takes more water to get the same amount of electricity,” Khachatryan explained.
“Since January 9, Azerbaijan has been impeding and barring us from carrying out repair works in the territory under its control where the high-voltage electricity transmission line supplying Artsakh from Armenia passes. Before the blockade, especially in winters, when the electricity supplied from Armenia was insufficient, we were using the Sarsang Reservoir. After the war we are left with only five small HPPs in Artsakh, which work only under 20% capacity,” Khachatryan said, warning that if the power line doesn’t get fixed soon there will be insufficient water levels in Sarsang.
Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan earlier warned that the significant decrease of water resources in Sarsang Reservoir (which had a capacity of 600,000,000 cubic meters) will lead to a serious crisis in spring and summer first of all for the Azerbaijani farmers themselves because the water resources won’t be sufficient enough for irrigating the 96,000 hectares in Azerbaijan’s Tartar, Aghdam, Bardi, Goranboy, Yevlakh and Akhjabad regions. The Artsakh authorities said that the residents of these regions should be aware that they won’t have irrigation water and will subsequently lose income and harvest thanks to their own authorities and the self-proclaimed “eco-activists”.

Japanese sakura flowers will blossom in Yerevan (for some reason)

The Japanese Embassy in Armenia on Tuesday approved the funding program for the renovation of a building where the “Khikari” Armenian-Japanese Cultural Center will function. The $120,000 grant program is called “Khikari Center Improvement Project.”
“The preparation for the project took three years, but I am confident that nice and good dreams always come true if you continue to wait and believe,” she noted.
Piliposyan also extended her thanks to all supporters, which include the Armenian MFA, Ministry of Culture, Government-Affiliated Charitable Project Coordination Commission and, of course, Japan.
The aforesaid building will be allocated for fifteen years and free of charge. The Center also will have a small Japanese style garden. Moreover, they already have promised to bring Japanese sakura (cherry blossom) flower seedlings to Armenian capital city Yerevan.
The renovation is scheduled to be completed by the year’s end.

2023.03.29 03:18 PokingDogSnouts My "girlfriend" of one year has been in Turkey the past four months. Every single day of those four months, she has fed me the mistaken impression she was divorcing from an old marriage of years ago. It turns out she is staying.

From the month we started phone calls (February, 2022), I was assured that she never felt a drop of love for this person. He had manipulated her out of her first abusive marriage—guiding her through the divorce process. Her sole source of support through a very trying time, he also would completely disappear on her when she didn't do what he asked of her. When her first divorce was finalized, he convinced her to hop onto a plane to Turkey, and marry him immediately. The faulty reasoning he gave for such a wild and ill-advised idea (that her therapist strongly urged against, saying she needed time to heal and process the dissolution of the first marriage) was that if she were to live with him, she needed to undergo a marriage ceremony to make it permissible within their faith (Islam).
When I first heard this, I already thought that this was one of the worst decisions a person could ever make for themselves. A woman of few friends, she was going to isolate herself further in a country she did not know the language to, with a man whom she'd only met once. Making another marriage commitment, fresh out of the first failed one.
Another saddening aspect to her history is that this isn't the first time. The first husband had also, years and years prior, convinced her to move to Turkey. They came back, and she processed a green card application for this man. The same thing she's now doing for this guy.
But the second marriage also didn't work out. She was there for almost two years, and was having panic attacks all of the time. Fainting in the bathroom. Stuck there due to COVID lockdowns. She and the guy were wholly incompatible. She'd mentioned how she couldn't even be intimate with him because of how tensed up he made her feel. She'd told me she wasn't attracted to him, and that she cried at the ceremony, knowing she was making a huge mistake, but was so numb and expected to go through with it, at this point, that she did. She told me things in this vein, over and over again.
How utterly numb she was over there, unfeeling, disassociating and just doing what people expected of her. Living as a scraped-out shell of herself.
She returned home to New York in July of 2021. She'd still kept up the pretense with him, of being in a stable marriage, and continued to process his green card application, but knew even by December (according to what she told me) that she did not want to return and that she could not fathom living her life with this person.
We met in January of 2022. Not in-person, yet, but right here on Reddit. Innocuous enough, at first. I had been recovering from long-COVID, with no one in my life believing me. I was searching for both love and friends to see me through the most difficult time in my entire life. She replied to one of the friendship posts, and we bonded through a shared love for music, older music in particular.
She zeroed in on me from the start, telling me later on about how she'd sifted through all my social media and talked with her cousin, her best friend, about the kind of person I was.
The conversation moved to Discord. I was streaming a lot, then. One of the foreign friends I was talking to, said I had a voice that would go perfectly with book-reading, and that I should stream myself doing it. During a lonely end to the December of 2021, I decided to give it a try. I even did one on New Year's Eve, hoping to unite all of the lost souls, who, like me, didn't have any gatherings to attend.
In February, the streams were still going strong, and she seemed to enter every single one of them—constantly there for me, constantly wanting to not only spend her time with me, but to get my attention. And there's one incident that finally made me realize just how much she felt for me.
One late night, I told her politely that I'd be playing Minecraft with somebody else (we had been messaging daily by this point in early February). She had been engaging extensively, sending me a lot of caring advice on dealing with my symptoms, but I needed to rest myself from all the texting.
It was only two hours, but it clearly hurt her. I didn't hear from her until late the next day, when she spilled out her feelings in a message she deleted only moments later. I only caught the notification preview, but the gist of it seemed to be that she felt "disposed of", discarded, and she had cried over it.
This was a shock for me. I seriously didn't think it was that grave an error to commit (it wasn't), but nevertheless, I empathized. I, too, know fully well what it's like to be completely discarded (also see: the end of this story). I certainly didn't want someone coming out of interactions with me, feeling that way. And I resolved within myself not to hurt this person again. I was beginning to develop an affinity towards her—spurred by the obvious interest, and her qualities of both acute sensitivity, and a willingness to be open and vulnerable, something I deeply value. I wanted to become her source of comfort, too. To help her feel safe in a world that can often be cruel and insensitive. That is the decision I made for myself on that day.
Later in the month, nightly phone calls began. The first time we'd spoken through voice. Well into the nights, we talked for hours, a clear close bond beginning to form. She eventually confided that she was developing feelings for me; I said the same. One night, she brought up an obligation in Turkey, unfinished personal business that she would have to take care of, soon. I froze. It sounded like another person was involved with her. Feeling deeply uncomfortable, I told her I was going to go. She was talking around it and I assumed the worst. She told me everything. And she insisted that she had no love for this person, never desired to be with him again, and that the "business" she had there was in divorcing him.
Her family's faith complicated things. Even if she was only technically legally married (i.e., not living with him for almost a year, by that point), they would not allow her to be in a relationship while the marriage contract was still in effect. She was attempting to hide even her communications with me. This is a 32-year-old woman, by the way. Her parents had always been overbearing and controlling. She was not to talk to strangers on the internet. I witnessed her being treated like a minor half her age, numerous times over the course of our relationship.
She clearly wanted to be with me, but this got in the way of it, and a few times, we parted ways. But our link just couldn't be snuffed out—we always found a way back towards one another. In mid-March, we decided, finally, to be together. We were not boyfriend and girlfriend, but we would remain in contact, and we would acknowledge our feelings, which we previously tried to put aside (which obviously cannot work; you cannot deny feelings like these).
I did have to push for it, by then. She was clear her parents wouldn't approve. But at 32 years of age, and with a divorce that wasn't even able to be set in motion—if it was a definite eventuality, wouldn't it make sense to still live your life in the meantime? Divorces can take years to go through. Grown adults don't put possible new relationships off because of a technicality. The marriage was already over in their hearts—if it ever even existed within, and not solely on paper.
I just didn't want this to slip away. She made her interest in me very obvious, and had persisted enough for me to return her feelings. She continued to feed that previously empty part of me—the part of me that never, not once in my life, had been shown real love, by any woman. I didn't want to lose her. I have been used, and discarded multiple times, by people I'd barely ever met, but who'd kept me in a misleading cycle of hope and despair. This felt real, for once. This felt like it could be something.
The phone calls evolved into something deeper, at her instigation. She'd cutely suggested falling asleep together over Discord in late March: whispering goodnights, giggling when we were both unable to fall asleep, and greeting each other first thing in the morning. It felt like a dream, to me. I had never felt so loved, cherished, valued. She went far out of her way for me, and I was willing to do the same for her. We continued this nightly ritual throughout the entirety of our relationship—breaking it, occasionally—but for the first few months afterwards, there wasn't a night we didn't spend together.
The "I love yous" came next. I was adamant that, as much as I wanted to say it, I wanted to hold off, to tell it to her in person. She couldn't control herself, and gently said it to me one night as we were falling asleep. Our bond felt cemented. Talk of meeting increased.
If you'll notice, a pattern emerges here, where every subsequent higher step in this relationship was initiated by her. The clinginess, the admission of feelings, the phone call, the nightly ritual of sleeping on the phone, and now the "I love yous". I was overjoyed to be on the receiving end of each of these, and yes, I did fight for the relationship to stick in the first place, but in hindsight, it seems ever more crueler that she could've done all this, only to completely ditch me at the end.
We were across state lines. I was in New Jersey; she in New York. I knew of a bus that could take me to Manhattan. From there, it was just a hop, skip away to where she resided. She, once again, took the real initiative. We had originally planned to meet in the summer, perhaps at a café or library or amusement park. But she was telling me she only had to take one subway to end up at the bus I was speaking of. Early April, completely out of the blue, she sent a photo of that subway, asking if she should do it? That all I had to do was answer in the affirmative, and she would. I was in the shower, but I actually had this hunch that that was going to happen. For no reason whatsoever. There was no indication. I hadn't seen the message. I just somehow knew, and I was shivering in the shower at the thought of meeting her that day. Of course, it was too late by the time I was able to reply. However, we still met, the very next week.
We met at a large and lovely park, the only escape to nature you can truly get to in my town. She looked so lonely, staring at the stream, her backpack on. I came right up to her, and the sweetest meeting of my life ensued. We both somehow seemed cut from the same cloth. Both tall, but lanky—slimmer than most examples of our respective genders. Darker hair and eyes. And kind of a sensitive, hesitant disposition. The result of too much overexposure to the deafening hostility that can strike in this world, from all directions. We walked awhile, sat on a bench and somehow managed to hold hands to quell the shyness and nervousness that we both seemed to share (though her to a much greater extent). It was surreal. The day was a dream, but a dream that extended into most of the year.
We met again only two days later. She wasted no time in instantly coming back. We baked brownies together, and, probably too much information, but we became intimate from this day on. Once again, the bond went to another level. We were both hooked on each other: emotionally, and physically.
I don't need to go into the many months we spent together. There's simply too much to say. I met her in the city, and witnessed her father scream at her on the phone, bringing her to tears for daring to spend time in Manhattan with me. According to her, the divorce was now out in the open, and all parties involved knew of its inevitability. The husband wouldn't talk to her, so nothing could even happen. He told her to just worry about herself. But the parents weren't having it.
We met every single week up to November at least twice, barring one or two where she had a surgery take place in late April. We roamed down so many paths in my own town, and all over Manhattan. Experienced more restaurants than I'm sure I have in the past five years. Went to Coldplay at MetLife Stadium; it was also the first night she stayed over, again to her parents' ire. She would continue to stay each weekend. They were the loveliest times of my life. But her parents gave her hell every time she returned. They treated her like a complete outcast, giving her the silent treatment for days on end. A grown adult capable of making her own decisions for herself, being pressured by childish, immature parents who constantly filled her head with horrible advice about trusting nobody, keeping no friends, and adhering to a religion that I believe is an extremely harmful force in this world.
I had never felt so close to somebody before. She was as seemingly gentle as they come, and we were both extremely generous and caring to one another. Which is why the next part of this absolutely shocked me and sent my heart into a downward spiral I still struggle to soothe.
This past November, she finally left back to Turkey, the place she was formerly so miserable in, supposedly to take care of the divorce. She assured me all the processes were in motion—the search for a lawyer, setting of a court date, and the eventual date itself, somewhere in February. These were all lies. I don't know exactly what happened, but sometime in January she made the decision to remain faithful to both her religion and the marriage, yet she continued to lie to me daily about what was going on. One point of contention that came up again and again between us was the lack of phone calls from her, all of a sudden. The first few weeks, I understood it was because her dad was there, but in the months succeeding that, the situation hardly changed. I'd get hung up on out of nowhere, I'd get excuses such as depression—she even wrote a post on an alternate Reddit account asking for advice: how to assure a loving boyfriend that she's too miserable to call due to the circumstances surrounding divorce, and that it's no cause for insecurity. All while knowing that she was not divorcing... I was misled so cruelly. The web of lies is just immense, and I can't believe she was even capable of all this.
She argued with me over asking for more calls, pleading for me to understand her, and assuring me that she wasn't hiding anything. She would even randomly blurt out harsh things like...that she didn't trust me, or anyone...or that love can't always be there for you. She was slicing up my feelings and toying with my heart. Sensations that were all too familiar, from the wounds of my past. This wasn't the care a loved one is supposed to show, but out of trying my best to understand her side of it, I decided to stop asking for calls.
We went all of February and half of March without a single phone call. Not even on Valentine's Day. But I was only bottling up just how much it hurt to be so neglected. Surely two people in love both crave to hear each other's voices, more than this? She once told me my voice was like listening to the sound of the ocean through a conch shell. Comforting, yet fleeting. What was going on?
Another argument ensued, and this one led to a break-up. I realized through talking with a friend who asked about how we were doing, that I was immensely down about our only communication happening through a few daily texts. I wasn't given many updates on what was going on. She claimed in December that she was staying with the husband's family at night because he refused to fix the broken heating in her apartment. She was now staying there full-time. I tried to just trust her about it, but it looks like that was a mistake. She was isolated from any voice of sense, and only had pressure and religious guilt-tripping paving the path for her. I still don't believe she has any love for him whatsoever. He is a clumsy manipulator, who practically bragged to me on Reddit about luring her away from her first husband, while attempting to condescend to me about intelligence. Her few current Facebook posts all seem curated to highlight just how miserable she was over there the first time around, and that the same now continues. Her life is not her own, and I'm reminded of all the times she told me she was in chains. The one positive-appearing post was put up during our many days of vivid and lively exploration.
She always seemed easy to influence...often by people who never truly cared for her. I can't believe she would be duped by someone so obviously conniving that he convinced her to marry straight out of a divorce in the first place. She probably needs real help and people to look out for her...but her parents will not take up that mantle. She is, however, very conditioned to seek their advice, and treat their words almost as a decree from god, itself.
We broke up a little over a week ago. She still did not reveal the truth to me; she only acted as if I was asking for too much, all because I wanted some phone calls. She even argued, all this time, knowing she was deceiving me. And she put her all into her arguments, trying to portray herself as a decent person who held no blame. This is one of the most hurtful things anyone has ever done to me. And just like always, I'm expected to just accept it, with little explanation or apology given. She claims she wanted to live a sinless existence within her faith, but what she did so blatantly to me will never make her sinless. I poured my heart for the first time into somebody who I thought wanted to be with me for life. She'd say she'd never felt as alive, happy, and free as she was with me; that I was her favorite person. I definitely felt the same about her.
I don't even know what to think, anymore. She did claim her feelings for me were all true. In a final phone call that the husband initiated to tell me off, she said outright she'd be able to get over him, if he passed away. But that the same wouldn't happen with me. She also claimed she would never be able to truly be her own self with me, but that's not true. Happiness reveals your true identity; following your heart. But going against your inner nature, to please the whims of controlling people... that can never lead to happiness or truth, and is only ever going to slowly kill a person. I just wish I could've helped her. She never deserved such toxic people around her, but as long as she keeps choosing them, she'll have to live with the consequences of it.

2023.03.29 03:00 StepwiseUndrape574 IS GTA 6 RELEASING IN 2024?

2023.03.29 02:57 Variac97 Dexcom G7 vs. Freestyle Libre3

From August 2020 through November 2022 I was using the Freestyle Libre2 CGM. This was my first time delving into the CGM world. For the prior 30 years, I was finger-pricking. The Libre2 literally changed my life. In December 2022 I switched to the Libre3 and finally had a *proper* CGM that didn't require a manual sensor scan.
This week, due to an insurance change making is super affordable, I switched from the Libre3 to the Dexcom G7. I switched with a week left on my Libre3- I'm wearing one on each arm as I write this. Both sensors are close to parity as far as readings. Here's my take after only less than 3 days.
Libre3 Wins:
  1. Size of the sensor. The G7 is small, but the Libre3 is even smaller in both thickness and surface area. It also doesn't require an "over-patch" as the G7 does. This makes it incredibly small and inconspicuous.
  2. It lasts 14 days. The Dexcom lasts 10 days. This may seem insignificant, but it's a 28% decrease. Not only that but it's not a multiple of 7. With the Libre sensors, I've had a nice routine of changing them when they expire every other Sunday morning when I wake up. With the G7, the day it expires will rotate. This may end up being insignificant, but I'm a creature of habit, and I like to create a routine and lean on it, so I don't have to think about stuff that I don't need to.
  3. Range. I can walk pretty far around the house without my phone, and the Libre3 stays connected. The G7's range is pretty terrible. This isn't a *huge* issue for me, and I generally have my phone within arms reach, but there have been a few times when my phone will be on the charger, and I'll be literally 10 feet away, and I'll get an alert on my AppleWatch that it's lost connection. This is anecdotal, but it also feels like it takes a while to reconnect once I am back in range.
Dexcom Wins:
  1. I feel like this can't be summed up in a single point because this is ENORMOUS but the integrations and the API are FANTASTIC. This is, in fact, the reason I made the switch. With the Libre products, innovation is lagging, and Abbott holds your data hostage. I already have multiple apps and integration that I'm taking advantage of and is making my life easier. I'm both a data nerd and a smart home/connected world enthusiast.
  2. “Warm up” time. The G7 takes 25 minutes. The Libre3 (and 2) takes 60 minutes.
  3. Calibration. The G7 allows you to calibrate based on a finger-prick reading that’s no more than 5 minutes old. Libre has no ability to calibrate in any way.
  4. Alarms. The G7 allows you to set your alarms to vibrate. Even urgent lows. There is a threshold that if gone unacknowledged for some period of time, will be audible, but this is great. Libre doesn’t have this option.
  5. Grace period. The G7 has a 12 hours grace period after sensor expiration. I've not experienced this yet, as I'm only 3 days into my first sensor, but apparently, you have 12 hours past the expiration time before your sensor will stop working. This may make up for my concern regarding it expiring on a different day of the week each time.
The cool shit I'm doing with the Dexcom G7:
  1. Connected my Dexcom account to SugarMate. This allows the following:
    1. Alexa integration. I have an Alexa in almost every room. Now, no matter where I am, I can say "Alexa, what's my blood sugar?" She will reply with my current level, how long ago the last reading was, and the deviation from the previous reading. On my Echo dots with the clock (shorturl.at/jyBM5), it will also display my blood sugar reading as it reads it. On my Echo Show 5 (shorturl.at/bdmsD), it will display a graph of the previous 3 hours as it tells me my levels.
    2. With the SugarMate MacOS app, my current level with a trend arrow, and deviation shows in my system menu (at the top of the screen near the date/time) on my MacBook. I can now glance up to the top of my screen for my reading anytime while I work. Clicking on the reading will bring up a slick dashboard as well.
    3. SugarMate has a slick little integration that writes your current reading, how long ago the last reading was, and the deviation from the previous reading as a calendar event to an iCloud calendar. You can then add the calendar complication to your AppleWatch faces, and it displays as your BS value. Super handy, as the native Dexcom AppleWatch complication isn't super reliable. As a nice little side effect that I didn't anticipate, this also allows my blood sugar to be displayed on my Apple CarPlay screen in my car.
    4. Siri integration. SugarMate enables you to set up a whole slew of Siri prompts. I don’t use this at home, but in my CarPlay enabled car, I can just say “hey Siri, what’s my blood sugar?” And Siri, via CarPlay will reply with my current reading, trend (falling, rising, or steady), and when it was last checked.
  2. I connected my Dexcom account to an iPhone app called "Happy Bob". Happy Bob is another 3rd party app like SugarMate. I got it because of its iOS widget capabilities, but it ended up being a pretty hilarious app that's not so cold and clinical as other Diabetes apps are. For instance, I just opened it and I'm greeted with a friendly animated face that tells me "We should nickname you Ranger 'cause you're in range too often!" Happy Bob also has some gamification aspects to it. I haven't gotten into it too much, but I could see how it could be motivating so some people.
    1. Happy Bob allowed me to create a widget on my iPhone Lock Screen that shows my current reading. I have another one on my main screen once the phone is unlocked. No more unlocking the phone and opening an app to see your number.
  3. Dexcom "Clarity" app lets you dive into the data, generate reports ad-hoc or on a schedule, and give your provider access to your data as well if you're into that sort of thing.
  4. Dexcom "Follow" allows a loved one or caretaker to monitor your levels remotely from this app, installed on their own mobile device. You have to invite them and can revoke access at any time. I don't have a need for this functionality but did install the app to see how it works, and I invited myself. The other oddity is that the G7 app doesn't have any iOS widgets (yet?), but the Follow app does. So this is a workaround for a widget if you don't want to use SugarMate or Happy Bob.
  5. AppleHealth has native integration with Dexcom. Dexcom writes every three hours to AppleHealth. So if you're into AppleHeath for aggregating all of your health data, it will include your blood sugar history.
I’m sure I’m forgetting a few things, and I may have some additions as I continue to compare. I’ll edit this post as they come up.

2023.03.29 02:54 SchoolFast 10 Days Late (kind of) on a 30-day notice: How much do we owe?

Full story:
My mother was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver at the same time me and my wife got married and were approved for a studio apartment. So while saving for a house, I moved my mom (from six hours away) to a "personal care home" which is ran out of the private residence of an old, retired nurse that has three other people living there, who can't take of themselves.
We moved my mother in there on March 25, 2022. Signed a contract for month-to-month, with a 30-days notice, at a rate of $2,300 paid every 25th of the month.
Six months in, my mom verbally chose to move to a bigger room for $2,500 a month and agreed to pay the landlord every 15th of the month. No new contract was drawn up.
After a harsh year of saving, doing everything we can to get a house, and after multiple offers falling through, we (finally) officially closed on March 25, 2023. With how much bad luck we were having, we did wait until literally getting the keys to notify the landlord my mom leaving. That's our fault, admittedly.
My mom just paid the landlord on March 15th, which covers her to April 15th. Now the landlord is saying we are late on the 30-day notice and wanted over $2,000. I tried talking her down to $830 for the 10 days that we didn't notify her (which is pro-rated from $2,500, which is more than the contracted rent).
How much do we owe her? Is the right thing to do paying her for those 10 days or something else?
She is adamant about "following the contract" but the contract actually says the pay-date is the 25th of the month. So in that case, we did give her a full 30-day notice.

Thank you so much for your time. Please advise.

Tl;dr: If we are 10 days late on a 30-day notice, how much do we owe the landlord?

2023.03.29 02:50 anonymousj100 I Keep Ending Up Back Where I Began Every Time I Try To Move Forward With My Life

Short background info: I'm 19M with no job, no driver's license, and am not in college, due to the fact that I keep ending up in these situations, and I've lost all trust for any system that's supposed to help me.
The first instance of this phenomenon really happening was when I was 17 and in my senior semester of high school (I was in online school and had voluntarily opted to graduate a semester early as I thought it would be helpful). It proved more difficult than I had anticipated, but not for reasons you would initially think. Not only did the school decide to TRIPLE the amount of written assignments that year for everyone, but my town specifically was also having near-weekly power outages that just so happened to occur during this period of time, and caused me to miss a whole bunch of work, significantly impacting my grades. The cherry on top was that, at the end of the semester, the testing center for the ACT/SAT was too far of a drive, and iirc my family was having issues with our car anyway, so I never got to take either. I did manage to scrape by, barely graduating with all C's for the semester. However, my options for college have been significantly limited forever, due to this convoluted situation of external factors.
The next instance of this happening has to do with my first (and only) semester of college. It was an online school with a 100% acceptance rate. I was studying accounting but it ended up being confusing and had less to do with math (which I enjoyed) than I had thought. Still, I persisted and was on track to do fine for the semester. That is until my family decided to move across the country on a 2-week-long road trip, and I had no choice but to go with them as I live with them. Due to being on the road all day and only staying at hotels at night, I had practically no internet access once again. It was kinda like my high school situation all over again, but for a different reason. When I finally got internet access again at the new house, I realized I had missed pretty much the most important work of the semester, and all my A's and B's had turned into F's. The semester was almost over too, leaving me no time to realistically raise my grades enough to pass, so I sucked it up and failed and never went back. Almost a whole semester worth of college work for nothing, leaving me back at square one, just older.
The third, most recent, and arguably most tragic instance of this happening just happened last year. I can't really go into much detail regarding the opportunity that was affected, but I can share what happened to me individually. Basically, I was in a really rare but cool opportunity right up my alley that lasted a few months and would benefit me forever. For the first half, it was going smoothly. I was also just learning to drive and had just scheduled my road test. However, Hurricane Ian eventually decided to strike and take out the power pretty much the day before my road test and also interfere with said opportunity. Simultaneously, I started experiencing many strange health issues. Over the next few weeks they got worse. To put a long story short, eventually I couldn't fall asleep at all, was having seizures (or at least something similar), was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia, and put in a mental ward for 10 days. I eventually came back to normal, but I strongly believe I was misdiagnosed and still haven't received closure or a real second opinion. You can find more about this in my post history. My best guess is that I had a blood clot in my brain/head, because immediately after one of the seizures, I felt a crack in the back of my head which triggered a really bad nosebleed, and after that I gradually started getting better. This seizure also happened WHILE in the mental hospital and they said I was FAKING all of it. They actually kept me longer because I "faked" that seizure (When I didn't, it was real. Maybe it wasn't a seizure, but whatever it was, it was similar and wasn't fun). I'm still really mad about that, because I probably could have died from their negligence had it been something worse. Anyways, the opportunity I was in just kept going on without me because there were other people in it, but it was pretty much over by the time I got out, which felt really isolating and basically ruined what was left of it for me specifically.
But yeah, to sum up, every time I think I'm doing something to move forward with my life, something else always comes along and interferes to the point of sabotage. I'm sick of this happening and have made no further efforts to improve my life anymore because something stupid always happens that sets me back to where I began. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm sick of mooching off my parents and feeling embarrassingly inferior and increasingly incompetent compared to my fellow young adults, but it's still better than going through these types of experiences repeatedly and wasting my time.
