Has anyone else has to put their baby in daycare this going? I’m feeling so guilty but we have no family nearby to help and I can’t afford to not work any longer after having quit my job for the past school year.
Pediatrician doesn’t recommend it but says she can do the 3 month vaccinations early by 2 weeks, usually only because babies have large events like travel for family emergencies or weddings.
The in home day cares I can barely afford are usually multi age from 0-3.. I know everyone says daycare is a cesspool for germs and babies get super sick, so of course I’m feeling super guilty to even consider this.

Dear Mx. Agent,
Larah knows mining won't be an easy job, but three years of brutal work would put her in a place where she would never struggle again. However, it does mean she has to ignore one tiny problem: the death rate among the miners is alarmingly high. When Larah discovers she has the ability to pull crystals from the stones with her bare hands, she knows she has to keep it a secret from the android overseer who has been acting oddly around her from the start.
Ignoring the unwritten rule to not leave the mine, Larah ventures onto the planet's surface. She encounters the Pronna, a group of brilliant scientists who were hired by the owner of the mine company to maintain the planet's stability and make mining easier. They reveal to Larah that the planet is far more complex than the lifeless chunk of rock the mining company says it is. As Larah explores the planet further, she feels an undeniable urge to drink the runoff from the fallen tree—runoff that the Pronna describe as the planet’s blood.
Trouble brews as the mining company begins to adopt increasingly brutal methods after the mysterious death of the owner. These changes wreak havoc on the planet that the Pronna are left unable to counter. This building havoc that triggers unsettling changes in Larah's own body that the Pronna can't explain.
Now Larah must find an explanation to what is happening to her, to the androids who are inexplicably able to violate their programming, and to the planet itself. But then the Pronna suddenly leave, and to make matters worse the mining management launches a relentless assault on “the lifeless ball of material and atmosphere.” It's a race against time to survive as the planet begins to metamorphosize into a new life stage, threatening to absorb Larah's very sense of self and the life of everything and everyone on its surface.

The planet grew outside of the transport shuttle's windows, deep purple-hued water meeting even darker sand. Larah watched it grow closer, the only building visible from their entry angle a large squat structure she assumed was the mine entrance. Other than the pilots she was the only other person onboard, the rest of the space filled with cargo. She pulled a whisper-thin holographic paper out of her breast pocket and examined the wavering text yet again.
I agree to be indentured to Cronm Mining for a period of three years.
Her signature had been written with broad strokes, in contrast to the lighter signature of the mine recruiter, with a certificate embedded in the corner preventing changes or copies. She refolded it as she leaned her head on the window. Other than the outlines of what might be trees in the distance, the bare expanse of sand and sea fascinated her. It was nothing like her home city, bustling, noisy, thousands of hundred-story buildings crammed so tightly together so she could only see the suns at midday when they crossed overhead through the smog. Here the sky was clear, the orbit of the planet—at least from what the recruiter had told her—maintaining an odd loop that kept the temperature stable throughout the year. But the rotation also meant the ground was unstable, he warned, it was a dangerous place to mine, but the money would be worth it.
This solo sun fascinated her as well. She had rarely been above the tenth level in any of the buildings, and without dirty air to filter it she found she could not look directly at it.
She rubbed her wrists, still unused to the bare skin. Without the soldered bracelets that indicated her position and master—who she had paid off with her mine bonus—the skin felt soft and vulnerable.

• August 29th: Preseason #1 Nebraska and #4 Penn St were each granted an extra regular season game to play in the inaugural Kickoff Classic. The Huskers got revenge on the Nittany Lions with a 44-6 thrashing.
• September 10th: BYU lost its season opener to Baylor, 36-40. They wouldn't lose another
• September 10th: Illinois lost it's season opener to Missouri, 18-28. The Illini would run the table the rest of the year (including beating 3 top 10 teams in 5 weeks) to secure a B1G title and Rose Bowl berth.
• September 16th: unranked Miami lost its season opener to #16 Florida (in Gainesville), 3-28.
• September 17th: #3 Texas took down #5 Auburn 7-20 in Auburn. Both teams would win the rest of their regular season games from here.

Five teams entered the bowl season with national title hopes. Texas and Nebraska stood as the only two unbeaten, but as SWC and Big 8 conference champs, were tied to the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl and couldn't play for a de facto national title. Despite both being unbeaten, Nebraska was a heavy favorite to claim a consensus national title, having spent every week of the season being #1 in each poll. Waiting in the wings were #3 SEC champ Auburn who was heading to the Sugar, and #4/5 Illinois who was heading to the Rose bowl, meaning the top 4 teams in the AP were all heading to different bowls. Independent #5/4 Miami crashed the blue blood party and was paired up in the Orange bowl vs Nebraska.

Cotton Bowl #2 Texas vs #7 Georgia (January 2nd, 1:30pm EST)
The Longhorns path was simple . . . beat Georgia, then tune into to the Orange Bowl and root for Miami to pull off the upset, which would make them consensus national champions. The upset minded Bulldogs had other plans. It was a defensive slug fest, with the teams tied 3-3 at the half. The Horns managed two 3rd quarter field goals to lead 9-3 heading into the 4th. Texas muffed a punt in their own red zone late in the 4th and Georgia capitalized with a a 17 yard touchdown run by QB John Lastinger to deliver the Dawgs to an eventual 10-9 upset. Texas' title hopes were officially gone, while Auburn fans probably shouted "SEC! SEC!" as their conference rival's upset kept their national title hopes alive.

Rose Bowl #2 Illinois vs Unranked UCLA
Illinois spent all of September unranked, before shocking college football, becoming the first team in Big 10 history go 9-0 in their conference slate. They had a slim chance at a national title, needing Nebraska, Auburn, and Texas to all lose their bowl games. Additionally they would need the pollsters to give them more 1st place votes than Miami, which wouldn't be ideal since Miami would have the better bowl win. In any regard, unranked UCLA proved they didn't belong in the conversation in the first place. The Bruins raced out to a 28-3 first half lead and continued to pile it on in the 2nd half, in a 45-9 route. Illinois finished the game with 0 rushing yards.

Sugar Bowl #3 Auburn vs #8 Michigan (January 2nd, 8pm EST)
Auburn entered the Sugar bowl knowing Texas lost the Cotton, but now needed to take care of business and Miami to do the same in the Orange bowl, which kicked off around the same time. If those two things happened, it was assumed the voters would elevate them to #1 in the final polls. Michigan made them earn it. The Wolverines scored a TD in the first and led 7-0 at the half. Auburn used its rushing attack, led by the one and only, Bo Jackson, and its kicking game to claw back in it. Trailing 6-7 with 23 seconds left, Auburn kicker Del Greco made a 19 yard chip shot to deliver the Tigers to a 9-7 victory. I imagine they quickly looked for the nearest TV or radio to see what the Orange bowl result was to see if they're championship hopes were still alive.

Orange Bowl: #1 Nebraska vs #4/5 Miami (January 2nd, 8PM EST)
Tom Osborne was on the precipice of his first national championship as the Huskers head coach. As the #1 team in each poll since the preseason, all the Huskers needed to do was take care of 11 point underdog Miami, in their home stadium and they're your national champs. However, the Hurricanes had other plans. In what is considered one of the best bowl games of all time, it would become a game huge momentum swings. The Canes stunned Nebraska by racing out to a 17-0 1st quarter lead. The Huskers rallied with 14 in the 2nd, one coming off a trick play known as the 'fumblerooski, and then a field goal in the 3rd to tie it at 17. Miami countered again with two 3rd quarter TDs to lead 31-17. Then the Huskers rallied again with two 4th quarter touchdowns. The 2nd TD came on 4th and 8 from the Miami 24. With :48 seconds left to go in the season, three teams' championship hopes (Nebraska, Miami, and Auburn) hung in the balance. Tom Osborne had a decision to make: kick for the tie or go for 2 for the win. Thanks to Texas' earlier loss, in the Cotton bowl, a tie would be good enough for the pollster to vote Nebraska a consensus #1 as college football's only unbeaten. In a decision that would go down in both Husker and college football lore, Osborne elected to go for two to win win the game. Turner's pass to Jeff Smith in the end zone was batted away by Miami's Kenny Calhoun. The Canes pulled off the shocking upset 31-30, and put the college football world on notice as a new dynasty was born.

As a husker fan, this is a heart breaker, even if it occurred 5 years before I was born. Had they gotten the conversion, I'd argue this team would be considered on par with the 1995 team. Miami's monumental upset leapfrogged them from #4/5 in the polls to their 1st consensus national championship, and as we'll later see, that was only the beginning. This came much to the dismay of Auburn, who played arguably the toughest schedule in the nation, which included wins over #4 Georgia, #6 Florida (who beat Miami handily), and #8 Michigan. In fact, the Tigers didn't even jump Nebraska, who still received 1st place votes in each poll despite the loss. College football's lack of playoff or sanctioned national championship game was maddening to some but I have to be honest, I think I like the chaos and controversy better. That's what college football is (or at least was) all about.

I'm a 29-year-old pilot, RATPL, and all the trimmings, two aviation-related degrees, and 600 hours (TT)
That being said, the last time I was employed as a Pilot was 5 years ago, when I first came back down to my home country of Sri Lanka to pursue flying for the national airline. The airline has cadet pilot intakes, of which I've gone through three.
It's a grueling gauntlet of a psychometric assessment, knowledge examination, and simulator test. I'm at my wit's end with it. I've kept my life on hold for my dream and it doesn't seem like I'll realize it.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place because GA is non-existent in my country and my experience doesn't count for shit. I'm currently a freelance aviation journalist.

I’ve had countless failures in the past couple years, messed up relationships, and now I am completely lost. I have responsibilities to pay for things and live a normal life but I feel at any second I could have a mental breakdown and run away from it all. Although I don’t know what that would do except make things worse. I quit wrestling in hs, I took my football career of 9 years into college but quit that,I got my realtors license in Wisconsin but quit that, I tried to join the army but failed due to the size of my lungs, then I moved back home to AZ and tried very hard to find a job. Got one at a kitchen, hated it, quit. Got a job picking up apartment trash pickup , of course I hated it cuz it was trash-y, I had to walk 50+ flights of stairs and pick up people’s disgusting stuff. Did it for three weeks then quit right as I got a new job. Been at this job for 2 months. The newest one is Sales and security in the airport. I work for a company called clear which has this service that they open up a separate line from general or tsa pre check, when people go down that lane we sign them in then walk them to the front of their appropriate line. I hate the airport environment and I hate how the floor at the phx airport sits at and angle and feels terrible to stand on. I also hate that I have to dance around the truth or blatantly lie to get a lot of sales. Very few people can truthfully sell some product, especially if they don’t look like a super model. Which makes me think about my health. I have pains in my body like a 80 year old man but I’m only 19. I do my physical therapy and do hot yoga with my mother 2x a month. Its our little thing we just started so that should be good for my health. I used to live to work out when I was training to play NCAA Football but now I don’t go near a gym. Still my brain tells me I’m not good enough and I instead work out at home in the living room but only when no one is home. I hate it all. I have no friends within 25 miles of me. I have no family to hang out with. All I have is some friends on my games but I always feel like a loser when I play video games. Even if I only play for 2 hours a week( but sometimes it is more like 20 hours a week lol). I also feel that isn’t healthy. I try to eat healthy and feel like I generally eat well. I’m 6’4 215 or so and don’t feel extremely fat but also don’t feel skinny. More of a skinny fat with lack of muscle. I lack confidence, a sense of belonging, passion, or motivation. I’m on some shitty dating apps and girls will text me but I feel like I’m so insignificant why even bother. I don’t know what to do and I don’t know where to go. I wish I could run away and be with nature and eat real food and work out all day with my friends but of course how can I make money doing that and I barely have 5k to my name and I’m expected to pay 10k by the end of the year for rent and all these things. I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore. Oh and above it all I hate where I am. I’m in Scottsdale Arizona. The capitol of douchebaggery and old people. It’s like parts of Florida but dry and in a damn dessert. A little over a year ago, my significant other and my best friend were involved in an accident caused by a drunk driver that took their lives. Yes, it is certainly something I could seek legal action against the employer, but I do not want to become blacklisted in the employment world as there are many nearby that all talk. I do see a psychiatrist for medication management, and was in therapy and thought I was doing better.
However, as of late, within the last month, I cannot stop crying and my heart is aching, and I just want to pick up the phone and call one of them to tell them about my day. It feels almost as painful as the day I got the phone call. I feel like I've completely regressed in all the healing I've managed to achieve in the last 14 months. I've been told that grief is like a circle, some days you will be at the top and completely okay, and some days you will be at the bottom, feeling the worst you ever had. I've felt like their families are doing so well, and they have stopped reaching out checking in or sharing their hardships and wins, unless I am the one to send something. My family never supported my relationship with my SO, because he wasn't traditionally educated, and struggled and overcame problems concerning addiction. That never changed my love for him, and I was incredibly proud of how far he'd come and changed his life around. My best friend was my soul sister; she could always read my mind, and quite literally, was always there for me. We had so many adventures together, and grew so much together, in life and in the professional world.
I have never been able to grieve at my family home due to the lack of acceptance and empathy and acceptance for the losses I have endured. It is strictly a cultural reaction. My family did not support my lifestyle and I do not fault my them for that; they have plenty of generational trauma to sort through themselves, and have been working very hard to overcome that and meet me at a middle ground, as I have been raised "American" with different cultural values they were raised with. They're doing their best and I love them for that. However, it doesn't help me at all to force myself strong all the time, and to put up a front on social media and make it look like everything is okay. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I wish I could take my life. That's the point I am at now. Legitimately, the only things holding me back are my two cats, whom I cherish with every ounce of my soul. Those who have animals will understand when I say the unconditional love and affection and trust these animals have, is like no other. I know nobody would ever be able to give them the care and attention that I do, and would never DREAM of putting them in a position where they didn't have me.
The smallest things render me to tears and a lump in my throat-- seeing posts about the animal shelter nearby begging for fosters or rescues to help before they have to euthanize an animal; movies like Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, because a woman that elderly shouldn't have to be working as a housemaid; homeless people asking for food or help finding employment; mentally ill people I've come across when I volunteer at the local food pantry who aren't receiving the support they need. I have constant anxiety that my mum or dad is going to get hurt or have a health event, and die. I legitimately panic and cry to even think about the loss of them. I've also had outbursts of anger at home, and I cannot stop feeling like the Universe is out to get me. I don't know what kind of test this is, because I feel as though I am failing miserably.
I hurt, guys. I have tried to get back into the dating world, but am filled with anxiety and always try to find faults in any prospect I come across. I have been receiving comments from my family e.g. "It's time to get married now," "It would be so nice to have a grand baby," all stuff that I feel is valid and expected of me at my age. And, I do want to get married and have children eventually. My biological clock is quite literally, ticking. I just don't know how to fix my broken heart. I want to get better, but I don't know how. No amount of therapy has helped me figure this part out, and I'm struggling. Just wanted to get feedback or advice from anyone who has felt like they're in the basement of rock bottom and can't find the stairs or windows to get out.

"Colors That Speak Words" is a collaborative installation between two writers and two visual artists with words, poetry, and visual arts and speaks to how this combination of mediums can be done in a cyclical way. The artists, Dr. Anthony Fleg, Mallery Quetawki (Zuni), Blythe Mariano (Diné), and Chilán Mustain, worked together to create an installation in motion, and the vision they bring to this space is from a contemporary perspective on how Native art is presented. This is an innovative view for visitors to see that Native art is changing and adjusting to the times. Somethings gonna give and it's not going to be me.

I am getting married, and I have started wedding planning. A family friend that is within a year or two of my age has terminal cancer. She is really struggling with the milestones that she will miss. We have discussed it several times. I have listened to her feelings. I also told her as gently as possible that I wanted to include her but only as much as she felt comfortable. (I know how awkward that sounded, but there isn't really a great way to word that.) She said that she didn't want to miss anything and that even though she struggled with watching other people have these milestones, she still wanted to be included. She said that she appreciated me acknowledging everything, and that she would feel comfortable talking to me if things changed.
Anyway my mother is close friends with her mother. Yesterday night, we are at my parents' house for dinner (my parents, me, my fiancé, my brothers, one brother's wife). My mother tells us that family friend's mother was telling her about how sad family friend was that she would likely never have her own wedding. Apparently, one thing that she said was how sad she was that she would never get to watch her daughter's first dance and fathedaughter dance. She was just venting not asking for anything (important later).
My mother turns to me and said that after she got home she had a "really special idea." She said that I should share my first dance or let family friend have her own private dance after my private dance (my first dance and my fathedaughter dance).
I freaked out a little (based on my mom's well documented history of volunteering me without asking first. I raised my voice a little (over normal speaking volume but definitely not screaming). My fiancé said that I sounded panicked.
Me: "Mom! Tell me that you haven't already said something to anyone about this?!"
Mom: "I only mentioned it to Aunt ---- when we were talking on the phone earlier. Why are you freaking out?"
Me: "Because you just MASSIVELY overstepped --- AGAIN. Mother, I love family friend. I do. I am so so sorry about her situation. It's awful. But this is my wedding. I am not sharing my wedding. I'm only going to have one."
(At this point, I realize that I am getting really mad, so I take a short pause to calm down before continuing. I also decided what I wanted to say so what follows was a conscious choice not loosing my temper.)
Me: "You always do this, Mom. We're all adults, but you still try to coordinate things for us and get involved in things that are no longer your business. You can't offer people things that belong to other people. That isn't being generous. It's stealing."
Mom: "I have never and would never steal from anyone especially my children. I wanted to give you an idea that you might not have thought of. That's why I asked you before asking her or her mother."
Me: Mom, that's exactly it though. You talked to Aunt ------- before talking to me. You asked me in front of the entire table. Now if I say no, I'm the person who denied a girl with cancer their last chance for a first dance. Besides --- did it even occur to you that she might not want to confront her own morality in front of everyone? I know that I wouldn't."
Mom: "I just thought that you might want to talk about it. That's part of being a grown-up: not running away from conversations."
Me: "Mother, I am 27 years old. I am getting married. I have an adult job, and I completely support myself. I am an adult. That is a fact not something that you get to gate-keep and determine yourself. Additionally, being an adult means that you don't have to discuss your decisions with anyone other than yourself. It also means setting boundaries including not discussing or justifying your decisions to other people. And don't tell me that I'm not grown up enough. You can't say anything that you want to me."
Mom: "I'm your mother. I gave birth to you. I can say anything that I want to you."
Me: "You're half right. Anyone can say anything that they want to other people, but they don't have freedom from consequences. The simple fact is that no one has the right to tell other people what they should do with something that belongs to them. No one on this Earth has the right to tell someone else how much they should give away to other people. People should help each other, but it has to be voluntary --- from the heart --- not coerced. That's just another form of stealing. It's about wanting to look good but not have to earn whatever you are volunteering to someone yourself."
Mom: "You're attacking me and blowing this out of proportion. I'm your mother. I should be included in wedding planning. My mother helped me and her mother helped her."
(She starts crying.)
Me: "And it was your choice to permit that. It isn't my choice. Now, you need to go call Aunt -------, tell her that you overstepped and beg her not to mention your little idea to anyone, because if this gets out, you aren't coming to the wedding."
My fiancé: I agree with everything (me) said. You need to apologize to your daughter."
My mother runs out of the room crying. My brothers don't say anything other than general complaining about the dinner being ruined. My dad says that I am right but asks me not to disinvite her to the wedding. He also says not to be "hard on my mom." I said that I wasn't mean; I was setting boundaries and explaining my position. I said that I wasn't going after her because if I go pat her on the back and say sorry then that invalidates everything I said and teaches her that controlling behavior will be forgiven if she cries. I said that when she calms down I am happy to discuss but reasoning but I wasn't changing my mind or saying sorry. I also added that she wasn't disinvited nor would she be if she keep her mouth shut and didn't overstep in mine and my fiancé's business. Dad left it at that. He is big on not discussing things until everyone is calm. He did call me this afternoon to tell me that she was really upset and ask me to talk to her.
My sister-in-law reached out to me today too. She said that she was really impressed with how I handled that and asked if she could just hand her phone to me when my mom oversteps with her on pregnancy/baby stuff. (She's pregnant with her and my brother's first child.) We talked for a while.
My fiancé was literally a rock. We left as soon as we were done eating. We talked about it in the car. His position was basically "my mom, my call." He let me handle the confrontation and then immediately said he was 100% on my side. When my mom texted him this morning to ask about me being mad, he just replied that she should talk to her daughter. He also showed me the message and his reply immediately. He did not let her pull him in. He was perfect; I would marry him twice if I could.
So basically am I a jerk for not allowing this second first dance? I have a bad feeling that I might be because it is really likely that she will never have her own wedding. I just honestly don't want to share my wedding.
Also, am I wrong for everything that I said to my mom? I do not regret the message itself, but am I the asshole for the way that I said everything and then refusing to comfort her afterwards?

Appreciate your time reading this thread. Darling Wife and I are celebrating 11 yrs of marriage and seems the traditional gift is Steel. Wife actually suggesting new knives, but she was probably thinking of a Shun set when she said it. Essentially she has opened the pandora’s box and I am looking for some recommendations on a pair of special knives that we can cherish but still use (not only for show).
These would be our first japanese knives. We are both home cooks currently using an old Victorinox set (prob close to 10+ years) with a king whetstones that I use to sharpen once in a while (no expert by any means, one of our chefs knives is all scratched up on the sides but the edge on it is decent for a beginner). I would prefer a 240 gyuto and my wife’s preference is a Santoku. She requires that her new knife have great food release. Im open to stainless or carbon as we use carbon steel and cast iron on our induction cooktop so im no stranger to maintenance. She prefers stainless for easier maintenance. I tend to rock chop, push cut, pull cut; wife tends to chop straight up and down. I think im looking for a laser and my wife wants something more substantial like a workhorse as she finds a thin brittle blade to be scary and prefers something with a somewhat thicker spline for confidence. I pinch grip; she prefers to use a one finger style similar to a sushi chef I suppose (can’t convince her to change her grip). wa or western handle doesnt matter as much.
Its almost like we want two very different knife styles, but the kicker is that I would want them to be like a matching set if thats even possible. Price is no object really, but if I had to say budget woukd be $500 or less EACH. I do want them to be somewhat of a statement piece but not something that we would be afraid to use. I recently came by a used Technics SL-B1. Looked so pretty, for $25 I had to get it. It did not have a belt, so I got it one. Working condition, lovely.
Cartridges:
My TT200 I've ran on a 2M Red for the past 4 years; while there's mixed reviews, I do like it. I didmake all cables for my TT200 from Mogami cables I had. I cannot change the cables for the SL-B1 as those are factory.
The SL-B1 came with the Stanton cartridge and what seems to be (after much research) a "DJ style" needle needing ~4g of force. I passed some expendable vinyl, and it works, but is a bit low-volume. If I were to use this cartridge on my regular LPs, I'd spend the $50 for the replacement stylus that tracks at 1.8 - 2 grams, like the 2M Red.
One thing I tried was to just swap the headshell from the Numark to the SL-B1... It actually worked, same wires, same screw-in mechanism.
Thus, I could run the 2M on the SL-B1 for a time being...
I am not a DJ, I just listen to records. All kinds, classical, big band, country, salsa, hispanic, hip-hop, eletronica, rock, blues... Why did I get the TT200 many moons ago? I do not know.
Any suggestions on which of these I should keep in my main home rig? What should "sound better" if there is such a thing?
