I work in the solar industry, which is rife with scammer and bad apples. Recently, a company was attempting to "train" some of our sales people on how they could tell clients that they can get OVER 30% of the tax credit (which is unheard of in the industry). Immediately, a red flag, was that they claimed only their accountants knew how to do this, in a trillion dollar industry.
Started by looking at their websites, and they have a plethora of them: solartaxpros.com solartaxpro.com solartaxpro.info
All were registered via proxy and there is no information about the employees. The testimonials are also dubious at best, as is the "for entertainment purposes only" disclaimer on some of the pages.
More confusingly, I can't find anything about who their CPA / PA is and their amorphous relationship to Michael Daszkal of Daszkal Bolton will come into play in a moment...
When trying to see if they are incorporated, I found solarmaxtaxpros.com - which is incorporated, but both are near the same area. The incorporation date of solarmaxtaxpros.com coincides with the 3 reviews solartaxpros.com has on Google (they claim 10,000 satisfied customers).
I confronted a person for solartaxpros - and despite their very similar URL, name, language on their websites, and using the same proxy to register, he claims they are unrelated (they are also both from right near the same area in Florida)...
When looking on the waybackmachine, I discovered that solartaxpros somehow used to be Tax & Retirement Institute LLC, which is now defunct. Three years ago, a woman appeared on LinkedIn with a "million dollar strategy" looking for investors, but her and other people claimed to be working at there for longer than that. They released a bunch of material (which mostly looks to be similar tax fraud scams... 5 years backpay taxes because of Covid? Free solar? Make millions with solar?) and had an array of websites, also:
taxretire.com rothiraheaven.com alpharoth.com taxcommandments.com (this one still seems to be up and is just selling a book)
The problem here, is these people are offering assurances on their tax work, but are unable to provide a CPA PA license #, nor do they appear to be incorporated (solartaxpros). Tax & Retirement Institute was an active corporation for just over a year, likely the amount of time it takes people to start filing their taxes and having problems. The people associated with the venture seem to have evaporated.
Michael Daszkal of Daszkal Bolton is referenced through all the testimonials of all things. There is a lot to uncover on him (business partner drowned in the Bahamas, his son hit and killed somebody and the family got sued), but I also was able to find court documents where Michael is accused of being complicit with fraud in one instance, and in another I read a news article about him trying to get language thrown out of another court case that put him in an unfavorable light with the same implications.
That accounting firm was recently acquired by another entity, and when I confronted solartaxpros, they brought up some other big name third party as supposedly handling that portion (the guy said "we are not a CPA PA", which led me to question why he was giving out tax advice, then).
Despite all of this evidence, some people I work with in the same company are still not fully convinced that this company is likely a scam. That is why I am trying to find more information, when I discovered this pattern with their last company of being open for only a window that would prevent people having filed their taxes and getting audited / commit tax fraud. More confusing, was the repeat behavior of registering a bunch of loose domains and pushing various sales / tax strategies that seemed "Too good to be true".
I posted on the solar subreddit a few weeks back, and other people chimed in that this type of scam has popped up in the industry before - they are basically advocating residential people take business tax credits, which is murky at best, but worrisome that they just pop in and out of existence in a "fly-by-night" manner.
If anybody has some free time to dig around on this or contribute at all, I'd really appreciate it. I did what I could with the tools I have an reached a dead end when I traced Tax & Retirement Institute LLC back to the root 3-ish years ago when a woman was asking for investors.
These people seem heavily connected in some way to a group in Boca Raton, FL - but I'm unsure how many of the testimonials and other things are legitimate people, or that the people are aware exist.

long post, seeking advice + rant:
For some context, I found a psych that works with my insurance a couple of months ago, and decided just to go with them despite bad reviews. I need adhd meds because I'm now in my second year of college and I have to focus on my education and grades. I don't have time nor the funds to go through adhd consoling either, so meds are my only hope in having a functioning mind. I was professionally diagnosed with adhd, autism, and anxiety by a psychologist and had to go to a psychiatrist to get medication prescribed.
little rant abt psychiatrist:
The psych i found was pretty sketchy, but whatever I needed the meds, when I went into the appointment (online). I explained to her my situation, i already got diagnosed, can show her proof and documents etc... she went on and asked me to "explain some of my adhd symptoms (?????)." i'm not sure if this is how it goes, but it was kind of unprofessional, as i tried to explain to her that i had problems with attention, hyperactivity, impulsivity etc... i had to google "what are symptoms of adhd," because tbh besides lack of focus and hyperactivity i dont know much else about it, when i went to the psychologist he had me take a few tests and i was diagnosed with it. she then acted like i was "cheating" by googling the symptoms... i obviously cant diagnose myself, and if she were to ask me "oh what adhd traits do you have," i obvious cant tell you because that your job to test it. she then proceeded to tell me that "she doesnt believe i have adhd," and "these things needs to be diagnosed before the age of 12." but i digress, i dont know how these things work and ig she is the "professional" here. i need somebody to tell me their input on this because i think this was highly unprofessional. she still prescribed me with some medication saying that because i was in school, she can give me something, so she suggest intuniv or straterra, but she will NOT give me and stimulants. im fine with this as i did state that i didn't want stimulants as i do not work well already with other stimulants like coffee or energy drink bc it makes my heart race, and causes me to crash rlly bad. however her disbelief in my adhd and refusal to give me stimulants was weird, i understand some people might try to fake adhd for stimulants, but her outright shootdown of my diagnosis and symptoms is highly unprofessional. (btw i tried asking her what are the differences and side effects, and she straight up told me to google it💀)

So i googled it and picked intuniv initially, i started with 1mg, then met up 2 week later to go to 2mg, by then i hadnt felt any differences or side effects besides mayed i was a bit sleepier and colder all the time. by the 3rd meeting (3 weeks later) she bumped me to 4mg (skipping 3mg) and that was when the side effects really started to hit. I constantly felt sleepy, sluggish, and cold (i live in florida btw). sometimes i would stand up and would experience vertigo, unable to move for a bit.
straterra:
i decided to talk to her again to switch me onto straterra after another 2 weeks because i couldnt take the side effects. she started me out with 25mg, and thats what i've been on since, it's been about 2 weeks now. something that i noticed on the first day of my taking it was that my heart would race, i searched this up and apparently it is a common side effect, but it is concerning to me how it started immediately after starting out and on the assumedly lowest dose (25mg). my heart races every time i take it and i do not notice any big differences in attention vs coffee, but it is more than what intuniv did for a month. if anything taking it is like taking coffee for me, but with less of a crash, and longer periods of higher heart rate. also this may sound weird, but i "feel" more autistic taking straterra(?), idk if that makes sense but it makes me like "unmask," a bit, bc my usual cadence and speaking went from normal back to me not noticing my tone of voice and unintentionally speaking too loudly, along with stumbling on my words a lot
so,
I need help in what i should do. should i go back to intuniv b/c i heard you can gain resistance against the sedative effects and it gets better after 2 months or so. should i stay on straterra with hopes that maybe my heart rate with normalize? should i try another medication (i need suggestions) ? should i switch to a diff pysch? should i try a stimulant (but i do not like my reaction from strattera, a non stimulant, already with higher heart rate)?
TL;DR - pysch is kind of unprofessional. intuniv makes me feel like a spinning brick. straterra makes my heart goes off, even on the lowest dose. havent noticed any big changes in attention for both. need help and advice on what to do - go back to intuniv, continue strattera, or move onto another medication?

I was busted by the light police. They had a point, Dana Milbank of the Washington Post.
Dana Milbank purchased a home in, soon to be not, rural Virginia. At night he kept the formerly vacant property lit to the degree that spurned one commentator to call it “spaceship lighting.”
Milbank recaps being visited by the “light police,” a group of concerned citizens who help educate neighbors and instill a sense of pride in the brilliance of their starry night skies.
At first, he was taken aback, but later, not only did he appreciate their efforts, but he also converted his blinding always on, white light flood lights to warm 2700 Kelvin motion sensing lights.
Per Ruskin Hartley, executive director of the International Dark Sky Association, “for 4.5 billion years there was no artificial light at night. It’s really only in the last five human generations that we transformed that. It’s one of the most profound transformations of our environment.”
Many of you may recall an earlier story, way back in our Hormone of Darkness episode, showcasing concerns by local residents prior to a 760 house (now 761) plus town center development moving into the Culpepper County, VA area. The forgotten medieval habit of ‘two sleeps’ by Zaria Gorvett of the BBC.
Gorvett opened my eyes to something I never knew about, the medieval custom of two sleeps. For those of you unaware, two sleeps are exactly what it sounds like.
Folks would partake in a communal nap, complete with rigid sleeping arrangement conventions, between 9 – 11pm, then awaken for a few hours to do everything from hang out to brew beer! In fact, the idea of multiple sleeps crossed cultures and was found in places as far from Europe as indigenous South America.
How can one’s circadian rhythm make sense of all of this?!
Well, for starters, until the invention of the alarm clock, which humorously was invented by a clocks salesman so he could wake up and sell more clocks, people had no firm way to wake up at a consistent time. The industrial revolution enforced a new circadian standard.
And there’s some science behind this! In the 1992 study, In Short Photoperiods, human sleep is biphasic, researcher Thomas Wehr found that after four weeks of 10 hour days, his subjects began to engage in this two sleep cycle, involving a one to three hour period for which they became awake and engaged in between.

My favorite one, “Ann Arbor named best place for sunrises, sunsets in Michigan,” comes from Click on Detroit, whereby a quote “study” examined Michigan’s most populated cities.”
According to Click on Detroit, “to celebrate International Astrology Day on Saturday, staff at Great Lake Stakes, a Michigan online gambling news site, looked at light pollution in the five most populated cities around the Mitten state to determine which offers the best views every morning and evening.”

Evidently, as an attempt to destress and promote mindfulness, romanticism about sleeping under the stars has birthed a 70% increase in searches for the term ‘star bathing’ on Hipcamp. And to be sure, “Hipcamp recommends checking a stargazing calendar which outlines major astrological events – like supermoons, pink moons, and star showers.”

Dr. Martin Moore-Ede, a circadian clock expert, recently published an article in LEDs Magazine chastising the lighting industry for not recognizing and reigning in the negative externalities of its products. Per the piece, such effects are, obesity, diabetes, depression, cancer, and more.
He cites three categories of industry responses, making the correlation that long term Denial or outright Ignorance of the Facts, may result in “asbestos-scale liabilities or draconian regulations.”

Bird migration season is ending here in the Mid-Atlantic. I was lucky enough to catch several Baltimore Orioles and Indigo Buntings last week. Researchers looked at 400 songbirds from 9 major species, “including the yellow-rump warbler, American redstart and Bicknell’s thrush.”
The question they hoped to answer was how are these birds so darn precise in identifying the best time to take off for their nightly migration? Scientists found that 90% of the migrating birds in the study took off within 69 minutes of dusk. A “much narrower takeoff window,” that even shocked the research team!
Per the study, taking off at night is all about maximum flight time. In addition to being able to precisely schedule their take offs, a feat that every airline I’ve flown with over the past few years has proven inept at, birds also are apparently good meteorologists! They often depart when the atmospheric pressure rises over a day’s span. Other factors also trigger migration, including sex, age, and celestial cues.

I did something similar in Singapore years ago. The zoo had very dim lights in the exhibits – and they kept those lights dim as you walked so that you didn’t lose your night vision. It was a very different and, might I say, peaceful experience than the typically chaotic daytime zoo.

Apparently, a single flashlight can deter female sea turtles from coming onto a beach and nesting. Florida, as I did not know, is home to 90% of the sea turtle nests across the world, so losing sea turtles can affect the global ecosystem.
One visitor to Cocoa Beach stated, “Just leave them alone. Stand back and look. You don’t need a flashlight.”
Another, “It’s not super surprising because more buildings go up, more technology. As it increases, nature and stuff like that decreases,” said Zoe Jovaag, whose grandfather used to take her on walks to see sea turtles.

And hey, you better not speed in Brossard, Quebec….otherwise you may be waiting around for a while. Brossard is testing out a new traffic light that will stay red until it senses oncoming traffic. However, it will only change to green if the car is going the speed limit. Per the Jalopnik article, “FRED [the French acronym for “educational traffic calming light] forces fast drivers to stop and gives them a chance to reconsider their life choices.” Such lights are already used in Europe, but this will be the first for the Great White North.
Why the Greatest Threat to Star-Gazing Isn’t Light Pollution, and this comes to us from Dorin Elin Urrutia at Inverse.
Elin Urrutia writes, in her compelling piece, that the greatest threat to star-gazing is actually the weather. Citing notable examples of the Mount Stromlo Observatory in Australia (which burnt down due to bushfires) and the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico (which sustained structural damage following the winds of Hurricane Maria).
While the threat of human-caused climate change has presented new challenges, Elin Urrutia references proactive burns that saved Los Angeles’ Mount Wilson Observatory from flames in 2020.
On a similar note, ABC News (the Australian Broadcasting Company, not to be confused with the American Broadcasting Company), brings us “A World Without Darkness Could Be a Reality within a Few Years.”

In all those big cities, it’s never dark, it’s always light. During the day of course with the sun, but then during the night with all of the artificial light. They’re not experiencing darkness, and definitely not seeing those beautiful stars…”
In the 66 years since the implementation of the UN Convention on the Peaceful Use of Outerspace, around 11,000 satellites orbit the Earth. But it’s about to get wayyy busier. Driven by innovations that have led to dramatic reductions in costs, over the next ten years, Per attorney Steven Freeland, it’s anticipated that somewhere between 100,000 to 500,000 objects will be sent up. Let me pause on that for a second.

The town of Swam Reach, population 270, resides in a 3200sq km region of Southern Australia that received its International Dark Sky Reserve status over three years ago. On a scale of darkness between 0 – 22, the River Murray Dark Sky Reserve at Swam Reach, measures in at a whopping 21.9!
Tourism has become a growing business. The reserve hosts numerous telescope pads and offers tours of the night sky. There’s hope that an observatory and/or planetarium may also arrive in due course.

LDS Church will get to light up its Heber Valley Temple after all, but the faith didn’t get everything it wanted, Blake Apgar of the Salt Lake Tribune.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fought hard to rid itself of any nighttime lighting responsibility by pressuring Wasatch County, Utah officials to approve new lighting rules that would enable the church to light a proposed new temple the same way it does for every other temple.
The Church received permission to uplight the temple, enabling an exception to be made in Wasatch’s rather stringent nighttime lighting rulebook. However, the temple will be restricted by the level of lumens it can use, and it must have exterior lighting turned off an hour after sunset or an hour after normal business hours.

Our Afraid of the Dark article is a bit scary! Hilton Head’s dark roads and pedestrians are deadly combo. What the town is doing about it, Blake Douglas at The Island Packet.
Per the article, 9 pedestrian and cyclist fatalities occurred since 2018, with five occurring after dark. Prior to that period, there were 28 recorded deaths from 2000 – 2016, with 20 of them taking place after dark.
In 2018, an 11 year old resident was struck and killed while walking her dog across an intersection one night. Lighting advocates began taking shape in what otherwise is a very conservation focused island. Hilton Head, SC has a limited number of street lights, priding itself on “avoiding light pollution and blending nature with construction.”
Lighting advocates appear to be, at the very least, asking for flashing crosswalk lights on the island to indicate when an individual is crossing.
It should be noted that the article shows a chart of 9 after-dark-deaths since 2014, only two of them occurred at crosswalks. In fact, during the same time frame, 6 additional deaths occurred at crosswalks during the daytime.
As a whole, the National Safety Council reports that 74.5% of pedestrian deaths occurred at night, whereby 39.1% took place in lit areas and 35.38% took place in unlit areas.
Bryan Bloch, an auto safety expert, surmises that car companies bear some of the blame – producing cheap or ineffectual headlight fixtures, and drivers themselves, who don’t realize that they need to regularly clean their headlight lenses.
Despite opposition from residents, it appears that Hilton Head will be receiving lights at two new intersections and possibly more depending on engineering studies currently in progress.

Our featured research article of the month comes to us from Animal Conservation, “Manipulating spectra of artificial light affects movement patterns of bats along ecological corridors.”
Bats are already known to have a wide range of responses to artificial light at night (also known as ALAN). Fast flying species tend to be more opportunistic in the presence of ALAN while slower ones tend to be more light averse. We know that “long wavelengths and reduced intensity” can minimize their environmental effects on bats. It’s not unheard of for bats to travel upwards of “tens of km per night.” Furthermore, bats are very dependent on the landscape and the structures within those landscapes.
Despite the nuances between species, the consensus is that ALAN, especially high intensity ALAN, negatively affects bats. This study attempted to answer what exactly bats do when they encounter ALAN – how do they react depending on different types of ALAN.
The study used three different light fixtures – one green, one red, and one white. The control was devoid of light fixtures. The researchers attempted to ascertain the behavior of bats as they encountered lights adjacent to woody areas. The researchers looked at three different bat groupings based on their foraging-echo location behavior, that being one of open field foraging, forest edge foraging, and narrow space – or more aptly forest foragers.
Researchers found that open and edge foraging bats increased their activity close to white and green lights, and to a lesser extent red lights. However, narrow space bats were more likely to veer away from all colors of lighting. Edge foragers were also less likely to cross a white light.
The positive effects of white and green light on open and edge foraging bats appear to be attributed to the accumulation of insects around light sources containing more blue light.

If so, do you recall seeing green lasers streak across the night sky? Well, the Army Corps of Engineers was using lidar at night to complete a coastal mapping survey.
Why did they survey at night? Specifically, why did they do this between midnight to 5am? Simply b/c the airspace is so busy, that time was the only chance they had to complete the survey. The remaining survey was completed during daytime hours.

I was busted by the light police. They had a point, Dana Milbank of the Washington Post.
Dana Milbank purchased a home in, soon to be not, rural Virginia. At night he kept the formerly vacant property lit to the degree that spurned one commentator to call it “spaceship lighting.”
Milbank recaps being visited by the “light police,” a group of concerned citizens who help educate neighbors and instill a sense of pride in the brilliance of their starry night skies.
At first, he was taken aback, but later, not only did he appreciate their efforts, but he also converted his blinding always on, white light flood lights to warm 2700 Kelvin motion sensing lights.
Per Ruskin Hartley, executive director of the International Dark Sky Association, “for 4.5 billion years there was no artificial light at night. It’s really only in the last five human generations that we transformed that. It’s one of the most profound transformations of our environment.”
Many of you may recall an earlier story, way back in our Hormone of Darkness episode, showcasing concerns by local residents prior to a 760 house (now 761) plus town center development moving into the Culpepper County, VA area. Gorvett opened my eyes to something I never knew about, the medieval custom of two sleeps. For those of you unaware, two sleeps are exactly what it sounds like.
Folks would partake in a communal nap, complete with rigid sleeping arrangement conventions, between 9 – 11pm, then awaken for a few hours to do everything from hang out to brew beer! In fact, the idea of multiple sleeps crossed cultures and was found in places as far from Europe as indigenous South America.
How can one’s circadian rhythm make sense of all of this?!
Well, for starters, until the invention of the alarm clock, which humorously was invented by a clocks salesman so he could wake up and sell more clocks, people had no firm way to wake up at a consistent time. The industrial revolution enforced a new circadian standard.
And there’s some science behind this! In the 1992 study, In Short Photoperiods, human sleep is biphasic, researcher Thomas Wehr found that after four weeks of 10 hour days, his subjects began to engage in this two sleep cycle, involving a one to three hour period for which they became awake and engaged in between.

In the 66 years since the implementation of the UN Convention on the Peaceful Use of Outerspace, around 11,000 satellites orbit the Earth. But it’s about to get wayyy busier. Driven by innovations that have led to dramatic reductions in costs, over the next ten years, Per attorney Steven Freeland, it’s anticipated that somewhere between 100,000 to 500,000 objects will be sent up. Let me pause on that for a second.

The town of Swam Reach, population 270, resides in a 3200sq km region of Southern Australia that received its International Dark Sky Reserve status over three years ago. On a scale of darkness between 0 – 22, the River Murray Dark Sky Reserve at Swam Reach, measures in at a whopping 21.9!

For those of you who feel the need to light your trees, because for some reason they need light at night I guess…I’ll try and pretend it’s not solely for ostentatious and narcissistic reasons. By the way, does anyone remember when those were negative characteristics?

You know, it’s astounding when you look at some of these pictures. The amount of redundant lighting. It honestly makes no sense to me. You have a porch light, which lights up the path. Path lighting, which lights up the path. And, in the one picture, god awful frontward facing flood lights, which also light up the path. How bright do you need these paths!? I digress. But the lumens are indeed coming.
LDS Church will get to light up its Heber Valley Temple after all, but the faith didn’t get everything it wanted, Blake Apgar of the Salt Lake Tribune.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fought hard to rid itself of any nighttime lighting responsibility by pressuring Wasatch County, Utah officials to approve new lighting rules that would enable the church to light a proposed new temple the same way it does for every other temple.
The Church received permission to uplight the temple, enabling an exception to be made in Wasatch’s rather stringent nighttime lighting rulebook. However, the temple will be restricted by the level of lumens it can use, and it must have exterior lighting turned off an hour after sunset or an hour after normal business hours.

The pandemic is officially over, smart street lighting is about to boom. Combine the rush to LED fixtures with the Internet of Things, and expect to see street lights moonlighting as traffic and parking monitors, air quality meters, and more. Not to mention, “it is anticipated that camera-connected smart street lighting will increase road safety by lowering the likelihood of accidents and criminality.”

Our Afraid of the Dark article is a bit scary! Hilton Head’s dark roads and pedestrians are deadly combo. What the town is doing about it, Blake Douglas at The Island Packet.
Per the article, 9 pedestrian and cyclist fatalities occurred since 2018, with five occurring after dark. Prior to that period, there were 28 recorded deaths from 2000 – 2016, with 20 of them taking place after dark.
In 2018, an 11 year old resident was struck and killed while walking her dog across an intersection one night. Lighting advocates began taking shape in what otherwise is a very conservation focused island. Hilton Head, SC has a limited number of street lights, priding itself on “avoiding light pollution and blending nature with construction.”
Lighting advocates appear to be, at the very least, asking for flashing crosswalk lights on the island to indicate when an individual is crossing.
It should be noted that the article shows a chart of 9 after-dark-deaths since 2014, only two of them occurred at crosswalks. In fact, during the same time frame, 6 additional deaths occurred at crosswalks during the daytime.
As a whole, the National Safety Council reports that 74.5% of pedestrian deaths occurred at night, whereby 39.1% took place in lit areas and 35.38% took place in unlit areas.
Bryan Bloch, an auto safety expert, surmises that car companies bear some of the blame – producing cheap or ineffectual headlight fixtures, and drivers themselves, who don’t realize that they need to regularly clean their headlight lenses.
Despite opposition from residents, it appears that Hilton Head will be receiving lights at two new intersections and possibly more depending on engineering studies currently in progress.
Is lighting the key variable here? Is more light going to solve pedestrian deaths?
Our featured research article of the month comes to us from Animal Conservation, “Manipulating spectra of artificial light affects movement patterns of bats along ecological corridors.”
Bats are already known to have a wide range of responses to artificial light at night (also known as ALAN). Fast flying species tend to be more opportunistic in the presence of ALAN while slower ones tend to be more light averse. We know that “long wavelengths and reduced intensity” can minimize their environmental effects on bats. It’s not unheard of for bats to travel upwards of “tens of km per night.” Furthermore, bats are very dependent on the landscape and the structures within those landscapes.
Despite the nuances between species, the consensus is that ALAN, especially high intensity ALAN, negatively affects bats. This study attempted to answer what exactly bats do when they encounter ALAN – how do they react depending on different types of ALAN.
The study used three different light fixtures – one green, one red, and one white. The control was devoid of light fixtures. The researchers attempted to ascertain the behavior of bats as they encountered lights adjacent to woody areas. The researchers looked at three different bat groupings based on their foraging-echo location behavior, that being one of open field foraging, forest edge foraging, and narrow space – or more aptly forest foragers.
Researchers found that open and edge foraging bats increased their activity close to white and green lights, and to a lesser extent red lights. However, narrow space bats were more likely to veer away from all colors of lighting. Edge foragers were also less likely to cross a white light.
The positive effects of white and green light on open and edge foraging bats appear to be attributed to the accumulation of insects around light sources containing more blue light.

If so, do you recall seeing green lasers streak across the night sky? Well, the Army Corps of Engineers was using lidar at night to complete a coastal mapping survey.
Why did they survey at night? Specifically, why did they do this between midnight to 5am? Simply b/c the airspace is so busy, that time was the only chance they had to complete the survey. The remaining survey was completed during daytime hours.

Today we look at the news cycle, a black-and-white movie about an imaginary rabbit, and a mental block often found in sports.
SUMMARY
Chapter 22: CNN. America's first 24 hour news network began on June 1st, 1980. John does think it provides a service, some investigative journalism, but it does report the news, not what is noteworthy or important but what is new. He discusses how ongoing crises aren't usually covered, and particularly not with background information or context. Then, John describes living with his roommates in 2003, after the invasion of Iraq, means a lot of cable news, while Hassan waits for news about his relatives (they were okay). CNN shows some footage from Baghdad, a home using plywood to cover a hole, and some graffiti on the plywood, implying anger and hatred in the city. However, when translated, the graffiti reads ""Happy Birthday, sir, despite the circumstances." showing CNN's lack of context. 2 stars
Chapter 23: Harvey. John discusses a particularly bad depressive episode after a breakup leading him to leave his job in Chicago at Booklist and moving back to Florida with his parents. After some advice to talk to the magazine's publisher, Bill Ott, he watches Harvey with his parents. The movie provides John some relief during his recovery and is able to return to Chicago and his job, with some hope. 5 stars.
Chapter 24: The Yips. This essay begins with a description of a young pitcher Rick Ankiel, who was a great pitcher starting out, until he contracted the yips during a playoff game. The yips can appear differently in different sports, but is not unique to baseball. John also describes how a tennis player, Ana Ivanovic had the yips in throwing her serves. John also experiences the yips when trying to hit a forehand in tennis. Anxiety can worsen the yips, but seem to be caused by a physiological problem (but maybe one causes the other). Rick returns to baseball as an outfielder and ended his career with over fifty home runs. 1.5 stars

I wrote a review for consumer affairs and will attach it below to briefly explain the uncomfortable experience I had with my APC information and interaction below my long description of the shady phishy shit that just happened to me with employees of safelink and straight talk.
After I saw the straight talk "personalized" email I received about acp (which I opted out of), I began applying because at the time; I thought you could get a cell phone service discount from acp, and then have discounted internet from lifeline; I was obviously wrong but was elated to see that considering i had covid turned walking pneumonia so the financial impact has hit me pretty hard. Covid three times too, anyways;
although I have always been weary of straight talk but have kept them for so long because they were the lowest cost for service; I enrolled knowing the enrollment process would be quick due to me already being approved through acp.
That took no time, then once I was approved I received an update on my straight talk account that said I was enrolled; but in order to begin receiving the acp discount I would need to call an 800 number and give them my card number.......
I did it because I trusted that the information being displayed to me FROM the straight talk site was not a scam.
I called the number (had an accent), verified my credentials after like 15 minutes of attempting to get through, and the man told me I was already enrolled so I didnt need to give him my payment method as "it was already working". I even read out what the straight talk prompt was displaying to me to him. He said I was fine and good to go. Told me to wait for the next month to reflect the $30 dollar discount. Next month arrives and I see I was charged the full amount. (mind you, when I look back; it does not show this now) I called them again questioning this and reminding them that this could be because the other man didn't listen to the instructions prompt that the straight talk site had previously warned me was requiring me to complete BEFORE it could go into effect.
Same thing happened, he told me I was enrolled and everything was fine; that I would receive a refund for the $30 I was billed for the full amount/it would automatically do this. I said ok but I think something is wrong here so I will call again.
SAME thing happened again but now I was not able to transparently see my purchase history, and order history from the individual device properly due to them changing the site.
And you can only go back three months every time, the search is displaying different receipts from what I had previously seen in the last two months but school was ramping up and mid terms were near so I said ok again I will wait, but if I get charged again I am reporting this and canceling this acp account because I NEVER had this issue with blackfoots' acp benefit, EVER.
So it took me a few months (yesterday) to catch this because it was finals and right before that I had covid turned walking pneumonia. I even fell behind on school work to take care of my health and figured if they were charging me full price this entire time, I would just call back for a refund dating back to January because I had proof of the phone calls and times (but not conversations).
After FINALLY finding what I thought was an overcharge (reversal of 124 dollars that was labeled phone services) yesterday on an account that was NOT the payment method I had confirmed was my primary payment (first phone call I fact checked and asked him if and when I do get charged the 5 dollars; if you're not going to accept my card payment; will it be deducted from my primary payment method then? He said yes), I called them and took me another 15 minutes to get on the phone with them, they said they are not not showing ANY payments from me.
So then I started to freak out because I thought the 124 dollars was back pay from them attempting to overcharge me from a reversal payment of the incorrect payment amount!!!! He told me due to the high call volumes, he instructed me to call back when I was in contact with my bank to figure it out on my end.
I called for this issue and they told me those transactions were not from straighttalk or a phone service provider at all, and it was a completely separate thing.
She also told me that she did not see any payments reflects to them, and I said good because I never requested them or authorized them to take payments out of an account that didn't work.
So I begin to freak out even more,
I call them back thinking that I really didn't pay them since January and had been somehow receiving service for this long.
I called them to get this sorted out asap, and allow me to pay them back an unexpected debt I didn't know I had.
I told them this is outrageous, I have always paid my bills with them on time and have had them for years, after him continuously telling me that they are not reflecting on their end that I made a payment at all since January, I asked them to hold on the line while I prove FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT (another one, the one I authorized originally) that they had overcharged me, and I HAD been making payments... and THATS why I was receiving service all this long.
All of a sudden the call drops in the middle of me telling him i'm signed in and heading back to January to find the overcharge.
HE hangs up on me. NOT ONLY THAT though, I receive a suspicious error I had never seen on my phone at the same time;
due to working in cybersecurity I immediately screenshotted it and attempted to call back.... now furious.... I cannot receive calls or texts and I receive a text that my service has been drained; and I need to refill; at 0.
NOW i'm enraged. Before I could prove I paid, he cut off my service; I was receiving very weird prompts and the error I took a screenshot below gave me a gut feeling.
I looked it up and of course, it claims that its my phone's nearby cellular tower or ITS MY PHONE,
NEVER had that issue before and I was receiving ONLY straight talk texts claiming I needed to refill my service of 35$ The full amount!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
furious that I had been duped like this, I call my mom to use her cell phone and receive another text that I PAID MY SERVICE, and my refill is next month. I was so suspicious that during the time the call dropped, I was signed into my straight talk account and I was watching him attempt to change my address, name, and all account information;
so I immediately deleted my payment method and edited my account info with a pin that signed him out.
WHICH IS WHY HE TURNED OFF MY SERVICE AND DROPPED THE CALL.
My zip code still displays a weird headset number as my account number, and displays my zip code as Florida. NEVER been to Florida.
I call them back and tell my mother that my identity was just stolen,
I deleted my payment method before he could refill my service with it so either he used the old account that would deny the payment;
or he used a credit card on my account that is NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ME. I call them and demand that they tell me what my purchase history reflects on their end because in straight talk, my account doesn't show any transactions, but my phone now works.
The guy was snarky to me and attempted to tell me that everything's fine, my service wasn't deleted, that it was just a dropped call, and that he wanted me to test my phone and give him my credentials to make sure it worked. Mind you, he sends me a verification code FROM straight talk, so I know they BOTH work there. So I allowed him to test it out and he asked me if I wanted to proceed with the refund portion, or contact acp and get my account active for future references.
I said refund because i'm not finished updates my latest payment method to reflect a card that will work,
because he is telling me that I was never billed for a second service amount and my phone was never deactivated. He ALSO tells me that he is only tech support and not billing or acp........................
at this point i'm very uncomfortable and suspicious so I tell him I have finished updating my primary payment method so transfer me to acp.
HE GIVES ME A PHONE NUMBER AND TELLS ME TO CALL IT BECAUSE HE CANT TRANSFER ME OVER LIKE THEY JUST PREVIOUSLY DID, MOMENTS BEFORE. Mind you this is the SAME straight talk phone number I had called previously so this was not another scammer, it was straight talk.
Instead of immediately calling a suspicious phone number I fact check the phone number on google and its the phone number for SAFELINK, not acp or straight talk.
I call and explain the situation, he immediately tells me he needs to transfer me again to escalate it to Safelink tier 2.....
so now its a woman. (also every one of them gave me false names like the man before this woman was named Alexa-us.... he almost caught himself.
The woman answers and immediately asks for my approval number from acp, so I said hold on I have to sign into my acp to get it.
She tells me well I need the last four of your social now.
I told her exactly why I would not give it to her and said let me get the approval code so you can verify my identity a different way.
she scoffs at me and tells me uhmmmm no I cannot help you or give you anything until I have the last four of your social.
I said, the other man and EVERYONE at straight talk sends me a verification code to confirm THEY ARE WHO THEY SAY THEY ARE FIRST, I said I would like this to be done first before I give out this type of credentials to a suspicious number.
She laughs and tells me again, there is nothing I can do until I get the last four of your social, then to be even more rude she pipes up and says; also now I need your birthdate as well, full birthdate please.
I said so you cant send me a verification code first, you don't want my approval acp number then she interrupts me and says she already has everything about me (SOMEHOW BEFORE I GAVE IT TO HER, probably, just simply by my phone number BEING the account username), and she needs my birthdate (to be an ass), social, and full address (then snickers again like i'm psychotic).
So I give her my social and tell her that's all she is getting,
she tells me again there is nothing she can do until she receives ALL THREE.
So I give it to her (and begin recording her for her to clearly hear the record button turn on). She said, "Good news I already found you! So when you receive that verification code let me know", and snickers again.
I attempt to tell her my service may be off so I didn't receive the previous one the tech support guy was waiting for but then it popped up and I gave it to her.

I said I NEED to know what payment methods were associated because I fear I was billed again without my knowledge or consent, on an account that SHOULD have blocked the transaction...
I said so my phone will not work and I will get over drafted.
I said, AND I NEED TO KNOW WHAT MY ACTUALLY MONTHLY PAYMENT IS, because on my end; I have been getting billed the FULL amount.
She told me as confusingly as possible that there is a 30 plan for the acp, that excludes five dollars a monthly but you have to go into your account and accept it.
I said, ok so this is the first i'm hearing of this,
I said I have PROOF my original enrollment reflected my bill would only be $5.00 a month. I said and every month I called, I verified that with straight talk and then said everything is fine. Then I explained to her what the guy said about I would be billed the 35$, and then refunded 30.
I asked her if this was all connected?
She paused and nicely explained to me that this is an upgrade to the original acp account that pays 30$ yes, as a credit monthly for your bill. (still confused as shit)
I said so if I do not accept that, which I never have, then I should only be billed 5 dollars a month correct? I said I have not, as far as I can see on my end.
She said correct, but she said the lowest amount is 30 without data and that covers the full 30 we credit to you.
I told her, I USE data, I chose the 35 dollar plan to pay an extra five for gigs because I use mobile data for my job.... I fucking work in IT. (I didn't say that lol) but I said I use it for my job.
she was about to spout off bullshit again (nicely now and sweet.. she's actually really intelligent other than that type of cold hearted attitude like i'm fucking dumb something fishy is not actually going on with her),

I NEED TO KNOW HOW MUCH IVE BEEN BILLED, IF I WAS BILLED SUSPICIOUSLY OR THROUGH A SHELL ACCOUNT KIND OF LIKE DATA MINING, I NEED TO KNOW IF MY SERVICE IS CURRENTLY WORKING BECAUSE I, MADE A PAYMENT, OR IF WHAT THEY ARE TELLING ME IS TRUE... SOMETHING IS FISHY HERE AND I WAS SO UNCOMFORTABLE THAT I AM GOING TO REPORT THIS AS IDENTITY THEFT, FOR THE MOST PART MY CREDENTIALS ARE SECURE BUT I GAVE THEM EVERYTHING THEY NEEDED TO KNOW, BECAUSE THEY WORKED FOR THE CORPORATION. How they collect information is very phishy, They directed me to at least seven people in which I had to give my credentials from my ACP benefits approval form. Having me call at least four separate phone numbers in order to answer THREE questions which should be transparent, AND displayed TO THE CONSUMER about their personal information/transactions. All seven of them had different answers as well as attitudes towards me, none of them gave me their real name. ALL of them asked for the authentication code either first, after social security/address/birthday, in between, or not at all. I didn't feel safe because of it, and after five hours I got my three questions answers.
I will also note that the tech guy kept asking me to look in my mobile data settings for config tabs that did not exist,
and yes he got my IMEI and ICCID
I also attached below proof of the messages from straight talk claim my account fill or whatever they call it was depleted,
and then reinstated
please please investigate if they are stealing phone plans or syphoning one day from one customer, and then one day from another to combine them into a service plan they can sell off as a scam or some evil backhanded thing like this
I even got the impression that they were lead listing my credentials
not to mention my ip kept popping up weird links (mind you I have all the stops, and pop ups disabled)
when I scanned it with a vpn it claims the link was malicious, this was after this insidious debacle
and I NEVER CLICKED A LINK or pressed a button
During this I also told him that my phone had mdm, because I work in cybersecurity; so whatever feature or tab or he was gonna try (to fix).. wouldn't work

I KNOW I was being overcharged, I SAW IT, and CALLED ABOUT IT TWICE previously, and I said and the man on the phone whom had confirmed my payment method with me AGREED I was being billed 35 dollars monthly, AFTER my acp was approved.
But I didn't want to hear her excuse so I said well I can always attempt to confirm that with all my payment methods unless it was being charged from an UNAUTHORIZED and UNKNOWN payment method. (I wish I had the wit to remember those big words but said something more laymen but similar)
I said ok the last question is;
WHAT card or payment method was used for my service now,
I didn't authorize a payment but I received a message that says i'm paid up till July 4th,
and that pretty much my phone works now.
She then explained to me that its working because my acp has been approved, and never went out.... or something similar so me wanting to bash my head against the wall to get questions about VERY SUSPICIOUS interactions occurring answered,
I said well if I don't owe you anything and I will not be billed in the future because the full amount is paid through this benefit then I think i'm good, that's all I need to know. (I wanted to get off the phone so bad to begin looking at EVERY credit card and bank account number I had, to begin reporting this and locating odd transactions.
I NEED TO KNOW HOW MUCH IVE BEEN BILLED, IF I WAS BILLED SUSPICIOUSLY OR THROUGH A SHELL ACCOUNT KIND OF LIKE DATA MINING, I NEED TO KNOW IF MY SERVICE IS CURRENTLY WORKING BECAUSE I, MADE A PAYMENT, OR IF WHAT THEY ARE TELLING ME IS TRUE... SOMETHING IS FISHY HERE AND I WAS SO UNCOMFORTABLE THAT I AM GOING TO REPORT THIS AS IDENTITY THEFT, FOR THE MOST PART MY CREDENTIALS ARE SECURE BUT I GAVE THEM EVERYTHING THEY NEEDED TO KNOW, BECAUSE THEY WORKED FOR THE CORPORATION. I HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS, like was I ever billed? Was I ever billed that 5 dollar amount? Why didn't the fucking first guy tell me what a tier fucking two Safelink 'supposed' employee had to vaguely explain to me? I am done with straight talk,
and honestly I have been suspiciously been getting so many spam calls lately, who knows; maybe since the beginning of January, that I was already going to change my number anyways.
The tech support man kept telling me to look at my bars,
and they have been bouncing around ever since.
I honestly want to chuck this phone that IM CONVINCED they ported into, alongside my fucking straight talk account.
How they collect information is very phishy, They directed me to at least seven people in which I had to give my credentials from my ACP benefits approval form. Having me call at least four separate phone numbers in order to answer THREE questions which should be transparent, AND displayed TO THE CONSUMER about their personal information/transactions. All seven of them had different answers as well as attitudes towards me, none of them gave me their real name. ALL of them asked for the authentication code either first, after social security/address/birthday, in between, or not at all. I didn't feel safe because of it, and after five hours I got my three questions answers.
I will also note that the tech guy kept asking me to look in my mobile data settings for config tabs that did not exist,
and yes he got my IMEI and ICCID
I also attached below proof of the messages from straight talk claim my account fill or whatever they call it was depleted,
and then reinstated
please please investigate if they are stealing phone plans or syphoning one day from one customer, and then one day from another to combine them into a service plan they can sell off as a scam or some evil backhanded thing like this
I even got the impression that they were lead listing my credentials
not to mention my ip kept popping up weird links (mind you I have all the stops, and pop ups disabled)
when I scanned it with a vpn it claims the link was malicious, this was after this insidious debacle
and I NEVER CLICKED A LINK or pressed a button
During this I also told him that my phone had mdm, because I work in cybersecurity; so whatever feature or tab or he was gonna try (to fix).. wouldn't work

TL;DR: Dealing with a Mazda dealership, they pulled my credit (808 creditwise) and immediately called me to say they’d decided to sell the car to another customer.
I’m based in Texas and had been dealing with Ferman Mazda of Brandon in Florida. I saw a used Miata on their website, clicked on “Personalize payment”, and got a sale price.
I was contacted by a salesperson and decided to buy the car the next day at an agreed-upon price. The salesperson hasn’t been really responsive, and it took them 3 days to send over the credit application for financing.
I submitted the credit application, and the salesperson asked for additional information the next day. I got a notification that my credit has been pulled, then a few minutes later, the sales manager Thomas Michael told me that they’d decided to sell the car to a local customer.
I asked him if you’ve made the decision, why would you pull my credit? He said he didn’t know why.
I told him we’d reached a deal three days ago. He said he’d be more than happy to do business with local customers because he can earn referrals and services.
I asked him if he value profit over trust. He said he’s building trust and making a profit off local customers.
I repeated my questions, then he hung up.
I’m just really disappointed with the morale of Ferman Mazda of Brandon.

- All your comments on the Google review have been removed, including my own. I do not recommend flooding the business with bad reviews even though I appreciate your support. It's fair and square if I leave one because I'm speaking of my own experience. However, I condemn Ferman Mazda for removing/flagging my review.
- A person from Ferman left a comment under this thread and threatened me with my work. I knew because they mentioned my work and I only provided that information via credit check. I've reported the comment and that person has deleted their account since.

Hi all! Basically what the title says, but wondering if anyone here has had an experience with a surgeon in the SE United States for a rhinoplasty that they’d highly recommend. I know there are a LOT of celebrity plastic surgeons in Miami, but many of them I will never be able to afford (looking to spend less than $10,000 if possible). I’ve heard of some surgeons performing amazing work for a decent price in Florida, but I was wondering if anyone in this sub had any personal recommendations (Google reviews only do so much). In AI-generated promotional videos shared on social media and in chat groups, celebrities and politicians, including Trump, appear to endorse the scam.
In one, Trump appears to announce the launch of the TRB system on Fox News.
“Let’s make America wealthy again,” the artificially generated voice of Trump says.
In another, Twitter-owner Elon Musk appears to say “That Trump certificate is not a joke, it’s real. Everyone needs to get as many as they can. In reality, the advertisement features footage lifted from Musk’s appearance at a TED event in 2022. The video ends with a slide advertising a free app that promises to “make your favorite celebrity say anything.

2023.05.26 01:37 onimush115 Carnival Magic 5 day Cruise from Norfolk, VA Impressions
My wife an I have been on 5 cruises int he past, all pre pandemic, and all with Norwegian. We recently moved to NC and live within a 2 hour drive to the Norfolk VA port. When I saw Carnival does cruises from that port, I booked one figuring we would give them a shot since being close to home it's just so much more convenient than flying to Florida. I had high hopes for it being a good cruise, hoping it could turn into our new home port. We booked a 5 night itinerary on the Carnival Magic, with stops in Bimini and Freeport. I paid $2200 for a balcony room. For anyone interested here are my impressions:
Embarkation:
We opted not to park in Norfolk. I had read reviews about cars getting broken into in the Carnival parking lot (it's supposedly since had improved security) and decided to get dropped off at the port. Once we arrived it was pretty apparent this was going to be a different experience than the big ports that run 7 days a week. It just seemed under staffed and disorganized. I was used to Miami and Tampa where everything just felt much more streamlined. Security seemed nearly non existent, none of the added things I had read about like dogs or more staff, just the standard metal detector.
The ship:
The difference is in the details. Lots of rust streaking on the outside of the ship, overall it just looked dingey. In our room there was dust on the ceiling vents, cabinets were chipped, some drawers had broken tracks. The bathroom door had a broken piston on the door so it would swing around (this did get fixed mid trip). The chairs on the balcony were bubbling and rusting. Lights took a long time to come on and some switches just didn't do anything.Though the ship was built in 2011 it looked like it was themed in the mid 90's. Gold and chrome everywhere, mirrors and the ugliest green dome lights lined the atrium. Whoever picked those out loved them because they put them absolutely everywhere. It was comically ugly.On the decks the chairs were in varying condition, some were new, but some were worn and and in need of replacement. One thing I did appreciate though was just the overall amount of seating. All throughout the interior of the ship and around the outside decks there was never any shortage of places to sit and relax.
Tv/Music:
This needed it's own category just because of how bad it was. I don't know if Carnival just has a nonexistent budget for licensing, but the music playing around the ship was bizarre for a Caribbean vacation. They mostly played 70's/80's rock music/pop. I was expecting more stuff that would just sort of set the theme of the vacation, like maybe island music in the lido buffet instead of Quiet Riot lol.The tv in the room had like 8 channels, 2 of which were movie channels. Most of the movies being played were not recent and many I had never heard of. They played some new movies on the screen by the pool, but even those they repeated. Other than that they had HGTV, Discovery and Food network, and a music video channel playing 80's music videos. It seemed to be the same 10 videos on loop.
The food:
The buffet food ranged from okay to gross. Usually we stuck with the salad bar because it's hard to mess that up. They had a "Deli" with "hand carved" sandwiches. I tried the Ruben only to find out it was a pre-made sandwich taken out of a drawer and put into a convection oven. It came out as a soggy melted mess with no thousand island dressing or sour kraut and ended up going uneaten. The Guy's Burger Bar and Guy's Pig and Anchor didn't really look like anything great. The burgers just looked like a backyard bbq burger. The free pizza option on board was surprisingly good and we had that a couple of times for lunch. Eating in the MDR was okay, the food was fine, but nothing great. The real disappointment was that the menu hardly changed, it seemed to only mix up one or two entrees.
We ate at both paid dining options. The Prime Steakhouse ($42 pp) and Cucina Del Capitano ($18 pp). Both of those were actually really good. I understand why people may not like the up charge options, but I enjoy them as an option to get a better meal. I actually wished they had more than the two options on board.
Disembarking at the islands:
This was a real mess. I was used to how Norwegian would handle this with assigned groups depending on what excursions you had booked. It would control the flow of people trying to leave the ship. Carnival pretty much just pulled up, opened the door and said "have fun" which resulted in standing in lines in hot stairwells for over an hour. We even waited quite a while before attempting to leave in Bimini since we had no excursions planned and still got caught in it. People were getting hot and grumpy and staff just seemed confused.
The Passengers:
Now I've heard Carnival get called "The Walmart of the seas" and I now know why. People were just rude and not well behaved overall. You could be waiting for an elevator and as soon as one opens someone will run right in front of you to get on. People would leave trash/drinks everywhere, like in elevators. I witnessed multiple couples fighting in public areas, you could hear people fighting in their cabins. No general respect for other passengers, adults running up hallways yelling at night/early morning (kids I could understand), slamming cabin/balcony doors constantly. I saw multiple people banging on doors to venues that were closed. People had their shoes off with bare feet up on furniture in the indoor seating areas. Guys with no shirts in dining areas, and all I could think about was the amount of body hair that may be dropping off them lol. People were being rude to staff and just giving them an attitude all the time.It just seemed like people didn't know how to behave in a public setting. I saw one guy wearing as shirt that said something about making women cum, another person had one on advertising a bail bonds company, it represented my local Walmart pretty accurately.
The staff:
The staff was excellent. Everyone was so nice and gracious. Never had an issue once with a staff member all week. The cruise director was fun and entertaining. They did seem a bit short staffed if anything, which sucks for the staff that is there. Cost cutting by the company will get taken out on them, but I think that is a trend industry wide at the moment unfortunately.
Overall the vacation was not a complete bust. If anything some of the downfalls made it kind of funny, so we just laughed about it. Like I said we enjoyed our specialty meals, so that worked out. The lobby entertainment like the violinist and solo guitar player were really good, so we enjoyed evenings in that area just getting drinks and listening to the music. It was worth it to experience another cruise line, but we won't be going back. There are too many other options to waste another trip on Carnival. We have a 5 day trip booked on the Disney Dream in January. We will see how that goes, otherwise it will be back to Norwegian since we've yet to have a bad experience there. I may get called snobby, but I think I wouldn't go on Carnival for the same reasons I wouldn't stay in an Econolodge or Super 8.
TLDR: Tried Carnival for the first time since it has a port close to home. It really is like the Walmart of the seas and you get what you pay for I guess. It was our first and last time sailing with Carnival.

Other than that they had HGTV, Discovery and Food network, and a music video channel playing 80's music videos. It seemed to be the same 10 videos on loop.
The food:
The buffet food ranged from okay to gross. Usually we stuck with the salad bar because it's hard to mess that up. They had a "Deli" with "hand carved" sandwiches. I tried the Ruben only to find out it was a pre-made sandwich taken out of a drawer and put into a convection oven. It came out as a soggy melted mess with no thousand island dressing or sour kraut and ended up going uneaten. The Guy's Burger Bar and Guy's Pig and Anchor didn't really look like anything great. The burgers just looked like a backyard bbq burger. The free pizza option on board was surprisingly good and we had that a couple of times for lunch. Eating in the MDR was okay, the food was fine, but nothing great. The real disappointment was that the menu hardly changed, it seemed to only mix up one or two entrees.
We ate at both paid dining options. The Prime Steakhouse ($42 pp) and Cucina Del Capitano ($18 pp). Both of those were actually really good. I understand why people may not like the up charge options, but I enjoy them as an option to get a better meal. I actually wished they had more than the two options on board.
Disembarking at the islands:
This was a real mess. I was used to how Norwegian would handle this with assigned groups depending on what excursions you had booked. It would control the flow of people trying to leave the ship. Carnival pretty much just pulled up, opened the door and said "have fun" which resulted in standing in lines in hot stairwells for over an hour. We even waited quite a while before attempting to leave in Bimini since we had no excursions planned and still got caught in it. People were getting hot and grumpy and staff just seemed confused.
The Passengers:
Now I've heard Carnival get called "The Walmart of the seas" and I now know why. People were just rude and not well behaved overall. You could be waiting for an elevator and as soon as one opens someone will run right in front of you to get on. People would leave trash/drinks everywhere, like in elevators. I witnessed multiple couples fighting in public areas, you could hear people fighting in their cabins. No general respect for other passengers, adults running up hallways yelling at night/early morning (kids I could understand), slamming cabin/balcony doors constantly. I saw multiple people banging on doors to venues that were closed. People had their shoes off with bare feet up on furniture in the indoor seating areas. Guys with no shirts in dining areas, and all I could think about was the amount of body hair that may be dropping off them lol. People were being rude to staff and just giving them an attitude all the time.It just seemed like people didn't know how to behave in a public setting. I saw one guy wearing as shirt that said something about making women cum, another person had one on advertising a bail bonds company, it represented my local Walmart pretty accurately.
The staff:
The staff was excellent. Everyone was so nice and gracious. Never had an issue once with a staff member all week. The cruise director was fun and entertaining. They did seem a bit short staffed if anything, which sucks for the staff that is there. Cost cutting by the company will get taken out on them, but I think that is a trend industry wide at the moment unfortunately.
Overall the vacation was not a complete bust. If anything some of the downfalls made it kind of funny, so we just laughed about it. Like I said we enjoyed our specialty meals, so that worked out. The lobby entertainment like the violinist and solo guitar player were really good, so we enjoyed evenings in that area just getting drinks and listening to the music. It was worth it to experience another cruise line, but we won't be going back. There are too many other options to waste another trip on Carnival. We have a 5 day trip booked on the Disney Dream in January. We will see how that goes, otherwise it will be back to Norwegian since we've yet to have a bad experience there. I may get called snobby, but I think I wouldn't go on Carnival for the same reasons I wouldn't stay in an Econolodge or Super 8.
TLDR: Tried Carnival for the first time since it has a port close to home. It really is like the Walmart of the seas and you get what you pay for I guess. It was our first and last time sailing with Carnival.

Two days ago I received the letter CP2000 in the mail from the IRS. It stated that I needed to pay $5,000 in taxes for $16,000 of unreported income on my 2021 tax return. After reviewing the document, I noticed that there was an income reported under my husband SSN for a company he never worked for in his life. After calling the IRS I was told to do the research. So, I dig up anything I could find about this “company”. The first thing I noticed was that the “company” in question has a % and then the actual name of the employer as the street address. This threw up a red flag for me because all his other listed incomes that were reported showed the actual addresses of the companies he worked for. After digging some more I was able to find some documents and the physical location of the “company”. It is a small house in Miami, FL and the numbers I could find were a google phone number and a cell phone number, but both were disconnected. We do not nor never have lived Florida. After calling the IRS again we were told to fill out a form 2624 so that a third party can reach out to said employer, but if they can contact this company and verify my husband’s information we would still have to pay the $5,000. My question is how exactly do I fill out the form 2624? It was a little confusing. My other question is should I fill out an identity theft form too? Should I file a police report? We have never been in this situation and are always careful filing our taxes.

I've been trying to do my due diligence of research for shipping my car across country, as I recently moved here and was not able or willing to drive cross-country in the middle of winter. I have started to understand the difference between brokers vs carriers and one company that has come up I have not been able to see discussed in this subreddit despite searching for it. The company is called National Express Auto Transport and they're based in Miami, FL.

It appears they're a full-service company, which I've interpreted as they do both brokering and carrying (please inform me if I'm incorrect! This research is dizzying).
Has anyone unaffiliated with this company had experience with them as a consumer?
They're registered with the DOT and FMCSA (which I learned to check from this subreddit, so thank you!) but I'm pretty distrustful of solely going off of google and yelp reviews.
Appreciate the replies in advanced! Also, if you have any advice on other companies that are not giant brokers that I could look into, or things that I should consider in general, I would greatly appreciate it.

I work in the industry and recently crossed paths with a company in Florida who claim to be tax experts that can get over the 30% (if the person makes enough $). I am not 100% sure on their methods, but I started to dig into the company a bit.
Couldn't find them being incorporated anywhere (I searched a bit, but it can be tedious as I had to guess the state). Their website lists testimonials from some real juggernauts - but across their three different domains, the testimonials are slightly different - they are all real people, but their roles and relation to the company in question are murky at best. When I say these are real people, some of them are incredibly well-known.
Tried to whois their domains and they were all registered via proxy. They have a physical office, and address listed. Some of the testimonials they have came off kind of weird, but I can't find any other supplemental evidence of these people working with that company outside of these three domains.
Their Google Reviews consist of 3 total 5 star reviews, all from people with basically only one other review on Google, and all from a month ago only - including people who claim to have already benefitted somehow from this tax scheme. The website itself was registered towards the end of last year, but with the people providing testimonials, it seems odd they wouldn't have more reviews.
I might be on the wrong path here and just suspicious over nothing, but I figured I would come here and ask about this - either if other people know this works, or if this is some kind of known scam.

This particular reference / individual sent me down a wild rabbit hole - as this person has been accused of fraud in a court filing (which they demanded be retracted), and he also appeared in the news when his son did a manslaughter in his car and then basically walked and was sued by the family of the deceased. Further, the other half of this accounting enterprise was swimming in the Bahamas with 3 other people and drowned some years back - strangely, another unidentified body was also recovered (??).
While investigating into this portion, I wasted a lot of time as I can't even really determine what relationship this company has with the man, but he is prominently featured on all three of their domains (unlike the other people who are also listed as giving "testimonials".)
I thought maybe about posting to RBI, but figured maybe somebody in the industry here also could clear this up one way or another.
"If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is." - not saying that is 100% the case here but rather than alleviate my concerns, doing further research only seemed to generate more questions.
