IN response to the renters attacking homeowners especially those in Burnaby who indicated older generation had it lucky to cheaper homes being on the market 5-6 years ago.
Keep in mind the population in the lower mainland grows 12% every YEAR.
if you have 519,000 people in Surrey , you can expect 60,000 new residence and compounding 120,000 following year , 3rd year 200,000 people. The population now doubles under 5 years. This applies to all lower mainland cities including Vancouver diverse population 676,000 and Burnaby being the lowest because of its policies to keep duplexes from being tore down to Multiplexes outside metrotown.
*Burnaby in 2035 will be more expensive to live than Vancouver as it will fit a "niche" place where everyone will want to live as [first choice] for career families .
Downtown Vancouver its' focus will see the disappearance of Vehicles in the very very near future.
With Population growth being out of hand around the world. WE are Starving everything from land use to ownership skyrise.
Frogs have disappeared, Butterflies are rare, Sparrows are no longer blacken the sky with happiness. WE see more white lines on the ground, more white lines in the blue skies, and more cars following the white broken lines. WE see close to 180,000 new vehicles every year added to the same 3 lanes going on the direction west to east TransCanada highway, Barnet , the same 3 lanes in the direction west to east on KIngsway , the overcrowded Marine drive in every city, but yet no [new added vehicle lanes].
No SKYbridge , no new Overpass, no new Express lanes. WE are losing the curb lane to cyclists who physically compete with 4,000lbs -80,000lbs vehicles everyday while the planning department deceitfully out of nowhere in the middle of the night new green lane. These projects are without homeowners approval votes. HOme property land owners are losing more to cyclists who are low mostly property tax condo owners and renters.
As to the Housing crisis,
its unfair to blame homeowners and the few who owns a few that rents them out at any price. We don't dictate the Business owner or boss how to run his or her business, The same should apply to HOme land owners on what they do with their property including the house(s).
THe real issue with the cost of renting is mainly [population growth], you need to blame.
Second, Force Immigration to deport the many illegal immigrants immediately without a subpoena or court date.
Thirdly we now have educate to all the high school kids and their parents, that their kids will not be living in southern BC. They need to evaluate their reality that living in a prime region like any other place comes with a premium price tag.
THis family entitlement ideology mindset needs to change very fast for those families to succeed. Its is not a given if you come to Southern BC including Kelowna, you are NOT given a privilege to own here unless you can afford it. I take it your not one of them, that a discussion you need to speak to your parents for failing you. And Again you were well prepared beforehand what type of future you were going to have. RENTING and LEASING - Have always been short term. Renting is only for those recently moved to a new location because of being hired of a new JOB/Career while looking or Their home being renovated. The only exception is breakups. Because of the BC Rentalsman policies and laws that are not found in other Canadian Provinces including the any other countries like USA, Australia, Europe, It handcuffs homeowners to the renter. I believe that all renters should be forced to move out after 36 months, including those in BC Housing unless kids under 21 are still having to be dependent and those with disabilities. This allows others (new first time renters) a place and forces current renters to find something before the lease is up.
* that Renting is never a great idea, that forces you to own your own place or moving to a new location within a time frame. You got 36 months to get your shit together and find a suitable mature partner who can help as a financial partner or married partner to own. If it doesn't work out, you do like most around the world including Newfies, THEY MOVE FAR FAR FAR to another Galaxy Far far away.

I feel like when most people are lost in life, they're told to pretty much just "do IT".
I'm kinda lost in life right now and I've been told by like 30 people that I should try learning IT even if I don't like it because there's always going to be work, its pretty easy to get in w/o a degree, and it can make me a lot of money if I stay for a while. Just wondering if this is how it really is

This isn't the first time I asked him for space.
The reason I asked for space in the first place is because I have unresolved traumas and problems and I wanted to face them alone without having to worry if I neglected him by doing so. I've been neglected as a child and I never want to let another person experience it, to which I applied in all of my relationships.
We're in a long distance relationship. Our main communication is via chats or video calls. He's the kind of guy that will always give me an update without me asking for it. In return, all he asks is me messaging him with good morning, goodnight, or little bit of updates whenever I'm not busy.
The first time I asked for space, he threw a tantrum because he got scared of losing me. In his mind, asking for space is just the first step of break ups.
The second time I asked for space, he agreed. 4 days later he called me, crying, because his BIL died.
I believe the first time I made a man my world was when I was 15. I was head over heels and I didn't prioritize my school and even left my friends because I didn't want to neglect my ex-SO.
I'm now 25, and for those 10 years I didn't fully experience what it's like to be single or just be a normal individual. It always involves a partner and do decisions that needed to be considerate to the partner.
Granted, my bf is better than my ex. He also assurred me that he will support me whatever my decision is. But lately, I didn't feel it. I wanted to enjoy my life at its finest but he always inserts an unplanned event that will ruin my plans.
I'm not rich and I tend to explore life in my own pace with the little I have. Like, I will save money to go out for a day and eat out from breakfast to dinner and go buy new sets of clothes. Then he messages me that he will come to my city to spend time with me, which means we had to pay for accommodations and food. No, he can't stay and sleep in my house and he has no relatives here. Yes, he does pay his share but sometimes it's not enough so I had to pay my share as well. The one I saved for a self date will end up being spent with him.
This is not the first time my budget plans are ruined because of him.
At first I tried to convince myself that it's okay as long as we're happy. But lately I feel the tension building up and my heart ached whenever I remember the ruined plans I had for myself.
He's 31 and has 8+ years of experience earning his own money. He experienced going abroad and enjoying his life. He has a big wardrobe complete with presentable clothes and shoes and everything.
On the other hand, I barely explored life alone. This is my second job. I have a total work experience of 2+ years. I have a little bit of savings, and all my clothes are the ones I had since college. I rarely get to buy new things for myself and whenever I do plan to treat myself, I always end up spending it on our dates.
Y'all might say he should at least treat me with clothes. He's broke, still has unpaid debts with me, and his job doesn't have a high salary.
I guess the last straw was when we bought 2 pairs of glasses for us (using my credit card, and yes, another unplanned budget) and while he slowly paid for his share, he ended up losing the glasses.
Sometimes I'm guilty thinking about these things because I feel like I'm materialistic and immature that I let something as small as money get in the way of our relationship. I wanted to go to the gym, learn how to do makeup, do a massive wardrobe change, all because I want to improve myself — and that needs a lot of money. Yet sometimes he thinks that telling me he already likes me for me is enough.
Generally, we both have different goals and views, and because of that I wanted to break up with him. Yet whenever I do that, it's either he didn't want to, or looks for a reason to delay our breakup.
I'm not happy lately. I do appreciate that he did his best to balance his work, his personal life, and his time with me. I did see it. But whenever he calls me, it was just a quick "how are you?" then ends the call because he has something to do. Whenever we have a video call, the camera is on but he will talk to the people around him, and I end up scroling through TikTok or Facebook while listening to their conversations. On a rare occasion that his attention is focused on me, it's either I spend it listening to his speech about his job, or we literally have nothing enjoyable to talk about since we don't have that much in common anymore.
Today, I finally asked for space and I am not taking no as an answer anymore. I'm glad that he didn't throw a tantrum like before, but his last message was asking me if I still love him. I left the message on read and didn't respond.
I honestly don't know if I still love him. Also, his last message pissed me off as I see it as another attempt to disrespect my space.
Was I too harsh? Is this relationship worth saving?

I recently started working as a freelancer and I have a question regarding invoicing customers and taxes. I'm providing a service as a IT consultant and the company I'm working for agreed to pay me $X per hour. Now, I'm not sure whether I need to break down the taxes when sending my invoices to them, or just send the invoice as hours worked times hourly rate and that's it. I understand that when selling goods, sales tax is usually applied. However, I'm unsure if the same rules apply to services. Some sources I've found suggest that certain services are exempt from sales tax, while others indicate that sales tax may apply so I am confused.
I don't have a company in my name, and I have not filed for a PST number. I want to ensure that I'm handling my taxes correctly (I'll be putting around 30% on teh side for paying taxes on the next tax year) and not putting myself at risk of any penalties or fines, since this is my first time working as a IT consultant. So, I'd greatly appreciate it if any experienced freelancers or tax experts could provide some guidance on this matter. I intend to consult with a accoutant before tax season for the next year, however I would like to bill the company correctly since the beginning. Are there any exemptions or thresholds that I should be aware of as a service provider?

Hi!! I just graduated and am in the process of figuring out how I want to spend the next 2-3 years of my life (beyond paying off my loans and reconnecting with family) before pursuing graduate school. I’ve held part-time jobs for multiple years in the past, but the prospect of committing to a 9-5 for this gap period alone is so daunting. I have no idea how my parents and many of the adults I know have stuck with the same job (granted, including some promotions / upward mobility here and there), in the same institution, in the same city, with pretty much the same colleagues for decades.
How do you commit to something like that? Is the feeling akin to the “spark” you feel with a romantic partner? Or do you just accept a job offer hoping you’ll like it enough to make it last long-term and, before you know it, you’re a senior in your department? Any and all advice would be really appreciated!

Hi everyone, I am not sure if this is the right group for this question but I am currently a 23 year old college student that works part time and well, I barely make it by. When I am taking classes I work roughly 24 hours a week (it’s taking me a long time to get my bachelors degree due to needing to work to survive, lol). I just accepted a new job offer that is related to my biology pursuits, but it is only 20 hours a week (good for when I’m in classes), although I was told it could be possible for me to be cross trained in other areas to get more hours. I have also been applying to numerous part time jobs to have just for the summer on top of this new job, and so far I haven’t heard back from any. I am anticipating an increase in bills within the next couple months (renewing car insurance next month, along with my registration, rent is going up with renewed lease, trying to pay off one of my credit cards before interest starts accruing in august.. etc). I am basically wondering in the short term what I could do to get some extra cash in between paychecks. In the past I have donated plasma and I think that is looking like my most convenient option (but I have struggled on a couple donations due to my failure to be properly hydrated sometimes so I am trying to work on that). Basically, I was wondering if there are things I could do in the same realm as donating plasma or a way to find gigs that could get me by while I try to secure a second job?

Background:
I am a long-term Windscribe user. I started from a free account, then I upgraded to Pro because I started daily driving VPN on my phone 24/7 and I also use VPN on my other devices as well. So the free bandwidth isn't enough anymore.
I am living in Australia, I am from Vietnam. I used WS primarily for streaming overseas content, which is mostly Netflix, music services that can't be used outside Vietnam (the music app is very anal about copyright), and streaming movies with Stremio (torrent, and Alldebrid <- illegal, I know. That is why I use VPN).
I also use VPN to work overseas when my company blocks overseas IPs to access their server (I know I am not supposed to do that, but I did).
I used Windscribe on my phone, TV, laptops (Linux, Win, chrome/edge extension), and on my GL-inet router.
I have tested a few VPNs: ExpressVPN, Nord, SurfShark, PIA. All of them I used with premium accounts (some I trial for 7 days, others I pay for a 1-month subscription). I used them to do the same thing WS does which is what I have described above (except the working overseas part). I paid attention to the speed, ease to use and pricing to decide which one I will stick with moving forward.
This is from my own experience. It will be different for you.
Overview:
Pros:

• Speed: WS is fast, at least in my case. I can stream videos without lagging. When I run WS 24/7 on my phone, I even forget that I have VPN on. Sometimes, I run VPN with Vietnam server for a few days without noticing (I normally run on Australia servers for daily use, with very little speed drop when not using VPN).
• I can run the country-restricted music app without issue. I have tested a few VPNs and my app still can detect I am streaming from overseas and block me from using it (I don't know how) <- this one is very important for me
• Split tunnelling is very useful.
• Ads/clickbait/gambling/p*rn sites blocking (a huge green tick), I can block those on my other devices without having to install WS (children's iPad/phone).
• Pricing: I got an email from WS offering me a monthly (not annual, or 2 years deal) subscription for $4. I know we can get a cheaper deal from other VPNs by paying for an annual subscription. I don't want to commit that long to a subscription, monthly is my choice. I also have another promotion email about their birthday which offers me $29 for a 1-year subscription, I personally like this deal better. But I am too lazy to switch.
• Extra: WS use memes in their emails, kind of funny and I like it.
• Best thing: YOU CAN USE WS FOR FREE, and their free account is plenty fast. I used it for a few years before deciding to upgrade to the PRO account. I also use ProtonVPN free account as well.

Cons:

• The client is buggy. For example: when I turn off my pc with VPN still on (and the auto-connect option is off) and log back in I can't access the internet due to the firewall blocking the traffic. At first, I thought my pc/wifi has an issue but I have to restart multiple times and re-installed the driver. But it is an easy fix, all we have to do is just turn the firewall switch off. This is not a huge problem for me.
• Lack of huge discount promotion (I found online that PIA has a 95% cashback offer for new users).
• I remember WS used to have a lifetime subscription, apparently, they don't offer it anymore.
• Have fewer servers than other VPNs (not an issue, in my case).
• I used other VPNs and to be honest, I like their apps' interface more than the WS one.
• I would love WS to have a 'dark web' monitor like other VPNs do.

TLDR: other VPNs might have higher speeds, more servers and more features. But WS can do well and it fits my purposes: great speed, multiple platforms support, site blocking and great price.
I am interested in other VPNs with the same features and pricing. Proton is on my radar but the price is not as good as WS. For now, I think WS is still my best choice.
One more thing:
When I use WS on GL-inet app on my phone, I can't select a specific server. For example, I can't select an individual server within a country. I only can select the country and the app auto-picks me a city. I think it is GL-inet problem, not really a Windscribe issue, I might be wrong.
I point it out anyway, I hope they can fix that to give users a more streamlined experience.

I am working a FT job as an international student. My company provides FSA options. My current visa is set to expire on July 05 and so my company would be terminating my position temporarily. I would be rehired in same position by last week of July. With what ever I spoke to my HR, she informed me I would receive cobra package while during transition period so with that set I believe, that will be a qualified event so I while rehired will have to renroll back in the health care plan of my company.
I had couple of dental services and medical bills between Jan 2023 and July 2023 and some of the dental expense go over 1500$+ and there are lot more which could take me over 2.5-3k$. Until now I have paid most of the expanse through a credit card which has interest free period upto April 2024.
I would like to register for FSA during my rehiring period and put in equivalent amount of money into FSA account and get some tax benefit by paying it off in credit card and submit required doc
If I do this would there be any problem since the expenses were made during Jan 2023 to June 2023 were I would not have an active FSA. Is this even a valid legal plan ?

So I got out of film production because I was super overworked and I realized that it wasn't getting me any closer to my overarching goal of being a screenwriter. I decided to move back to Texas for a bit and get my head together, focus on my writing. cool.
Some background on me, I have an English - creative writing degree from LSU. I have never worked a writing job until this one. I graduated in 2021 and have worked in film production ever since.
I get a job with a law firm as a "demand writer." Basically, I write 20-60 page comprehensive letters that cover all the facts of the case so that the paralegals and attorneys don't have to. Then I make a powerpoint and a brochure to go with them. These can take weeks to do sometimes, and while it was fascinating and I have a pretty good salary, there are some things going on that have destroyed me. A normal demand letter is only a few pages long because the main function is to demand a settlement amount.
So there is a manager of the demand writers, and then each demand writer works under a paralegal. My paralegal was a serial procrastinator and I would have to beg and remind him constantly to not forget about when the letters need to go out. The manager has gotten in trouble several times because while she gives really good feedback, she uses it as an opportunity to insult me to my face. I don't mean like I'm being sensitive about getting criticism, I mean constantly wondering how I even have my degree, wondering if something is wrong with me mentally, wondering if I'm even literate. This wasn't in a playful way either, it was openly hostile to the point other coworkers have confronted her more than once.
So I stopped sending my work to her. I was already overwhelmed because our boss thinks that these huge letters can be written in a single afternoon and screams constantly about why writers are worthless. Any time there is a problem with a case, if anyone messes up, they blame the demand writers because it's a department full of college students and recent graduates. (we're also the only department that requires anyone to have degrees) My schedule became so heavy that I didn't even have time to have my work proof-read because our boss wanted the month of May to have a mediation very single day. I tried to get attorneys to help me, because they were also told that they need to help with proof-reading. I tried to get the legal assistant on my team. No one would do it, so I just churned out work as fast as possible. Then my boss started making me do everyones PowerPoints because I guess that's the only thing I can do right. My boss sings to the high heavens of my PowerPoints and says that I'm extremely good at research, just not writing.
Well, my paralegal got fired and manager replaced him. I immediately asked to move to a different team. Everyone but the old managenew paralegal agreed so I moved to a different team. The girl that became the new manager is great and she has been communicating with our boss about ways to help me improve. She made it clear that I am not a technical writer and how this is all new to me. Old manager has been doing reviews of cases and has basically been making a big show of how much of my work needs to be fixed and two other writers had to stop their work to help fix mine.
Every day thus far has been me being extremely careful to take everyones feedback, be more mindful of my own work, and try to improve my writing. But in the background everyone is constantly talking about how bad my work is and how many problems there are. I think the only reason I haven't been fired yet is my boss said I would be getting a second chance on this new team.
I think my complaint right now is that I understand I have been making mistakes. I understand that they need to be fixed, and everyone is having to stop what they are doing to fix it. It's embarrassing, but I just have to sit there and accept it while I quietly look for another job. But it just won't stop. I come to work and every single day, someone pulls something out and I hear another thing I've messed up and get glared at or people have whole conversations about me but will omit my name while I'm in the room.
Idk, I don't want to lose my job because it's a really good job. I'm just upset because this is how I'm learning about the mistakes I've made. The new manager wants to have sit down sessions with me but promises not to do what the old manager did. She agrees with me though, that what I'm going through isn't entirely fair because no one was reviewing anything. They were just sending work out, fully aware that it was not proof-read.
I still want to be a writer, but not a demand writer. This is just a job to pay the bills until a better one comes along, and I am certainly looking for one. But please, can a fellow writer give me some advice? Where can I go from here? I'm looking forward to improving, if I can but this just feels like I'm constantly being humiliated for how bad I am at the thing I got a degree in.
TLDR; got a job in the legal field as a demand writer.
