I have written before about my Grampa Alva’s press work – he worked for the local newspaper, operated a linotype machine – the longish step between letter-by-letter typesetting and digital printing. The machine would create lead lines of type based on what you keyed into it. This was referred to as the hot-type method because each line was individually cast – think molten lead poured into molds then emptied out as a single line of type. The linotype machine’s limitation was inflexibility – once the slugs were positioned in frame, reversed compared to the way they would be read but otherwise looking like columns in a newspaper, nothing significant could be gained or lost from the story. Scanning the lead slugs as they came out of the machine, Alva would have become skilled at reading text in reverse, possibly reading the rest of the world that way. He was touched, I’m trying to say. I see him singing, you are my sunshine, with guitar, on a railed porch at midnight. Yes, he died young.
Addendum: To graduate from high school, I was required to write a research paper about the topic of my choice. The writing process lasted the whole semester, and as is the nature of putting things off until the last minute, most of the students, some at least, well me specifically to be precise – I found myself rushing to complete the work at the end. The paper was about the nonviolent overthrow of the U.S. government by means of democratic reform that would do away with the electoral process and use a jury selection system to populate congress and thereby be more truly of, by, and for the people. See how efficiently I just put that? Imagine reducing it to 10 pages. An accomplishment adjacent to the overthrow-of-the-government paper involved computer programming. The paper had to be typed in a specific way, and back then, the tool at hand was the cheapest programmable computer available. I learned basic coding, experimented with self-building computer programs – programs that increased in size as you interacted with them. From this, I was able to build a primitive word processor with no visible interface, save for the line you were currently typing. When you neared the end of what I calculated to be the required margins, a tone would sound, similar to the way a bell dinged at the end of a line on a manual typewriter. The sound, which I programmed with numbers, not hyperlinks, made the sound of a flute, not a bell. When the user reached the end of a line, pressed return, the line would fill with molten lead, disappear inside the self-building computer program. A page worth of lines was assembled this way, then I would print out the page on a dot matrix printer that used a ribbon as the source of its ink. Every page of the research paper was done this way. An anecdote I’ve told many times: So I’m typing the paper with my digital linotype machine and the night has passed, and sunrise is lighting the room, and Grampa Alva’s daughter pops her head in the door, still sleepy herself, scolds me for being up all night, for leaving the light on – and she hits the wall switch, which shuts off the lights plus, ha-ha, the computer I’m sitting in front of. Picture the screen, which is a small tube TV, go completely blank, save for a white dot fizzing in the middle, which contained the sum total of my research paper, then faded out. Backups. Backups? Backups?! Backups! Backups! Backups . . . backups . . . I tell mom I hate her, and I love her, and then I start retyping the paper.

I wrote this piece while in a dark place, trying to create something that would help people who may be feeling like I was. Feel free to critique please, this is a first for me.
Shifting realities ebb and flow from within my heart. My arms yearn to reach out and encompass their obscure light. They sing melodies of times untold wherein no mortal could understand what they behold. Perhaps but a glimpse into faint eons where eternal we all slumber. Time is a void, an endless cycle of overlapping existences. We briefly flutter along its path only able to grasp at its outer shell. Never able to pierce the veil of true existence. We are trapped by the feebleness of our minds, closeted to an idealistic view on reality that takes us down this path. True understanding lies deeper. The path is what we make of it, our yearning making the endless void take shape to our chosen realities. We do this not by design, but purely instinct. Etching out a place for our sad, lonely hearts within this vast and terrifying cosmos. We are all dreamers trying to achieve the same thing whether by method or madness. We cannot help what we are but we can learn to shape this void with true purpose and intent. Making our realities shine through into the minds of others to guide the way. We may be beholden to the void but it is but a background, a reflective lens into the true soul of existence. Let understanding and light shine through for the countless lost souls, weary pilgrims and broken hearts that skirt along the walls of times echoing chambers. We are one but we are also the all.

I’ve had eczema my whole life, and here in the past 6-8 weeks, I’ve been getting a rash like this all over my body. I have been using the cetaphil body lotion, and an aveeno intense moisturizer for sensitive skin. I don’t use any products with fragrance anywhere in the house. We don’t even light our candles anymore. I have a humidifier and an air purifier next to my bed. It only seems to be getting worse. I also started using beef tallow on my body and it has basically cured all my usual spots of eczema (inner elbows, backs of knees, neck, face) but my arms and hands will not relent. I’m seriously at a loss.
I had an appointment with my allergist last week but couldn’t be seen because my old primary insurance expired but my secondary stayed. The secondary was active during all the referrals, but I’m required to get a whole new referral and my regular physician will not send it. I’m in a wait and see game right now.
I have an appointment set for December 21st with a rheumatologist because that’s the soonest appointment they had open. I have had Idiopathic Arthritis since I was a year old, and have had Celiac’s since I was 16. I’m currently being sent by my GP for suspicions of lupus or Adult Still’s disease. I can’t find anything online and all my GP can do is give me more steroid cream and I don’t want that.
I have a pretty healthy diet. I don’t do gluten, eggs, and most dairy. I’ll occasionally have cheese, but I stick to lactose free milks. I don’t do much sugar either. If I want sweets, I eat fruit. I take my vitamins every day, I take bleach baths occasionally (no more than once a week), and take colloidal oatmeal baths regularly, but it just will not go away. It’s up on my chest as well. I have a free and clear detergent.
Sorry this was all over the place, I just want some help. It’s unbearable.

I have read and came across so many cases in past about Muslims being involved in the most deadliest crimes or it's just media trying to portray them in a certain light but as a female it has created a very negative stereotype about Muslims in my mind and i wonder how it will affect the younger generation i have had Muslim friends but i never felt different around them now suddenly I'm having these thoughts which is affecting me alot and is kind of creating choas in my head I'm not Islamophobic but somewhere yes I'm afraid of being around Muslims now ! So there was this game that I had on the first ipad that I owned and I think it was released probably when the ipad came out or soon after because it was badly rendered. It was 3d and you had to control a red hooded guy with no legs or mouth I think and he had two eyes and the world you could move in was very dark. There were a few lights I think and I dont remember the goal of the game but I think you had to collect or save small blue dudes and avoid or kill enemy creatures in the dark world. The power connecter connects to the battery but could I use something else to power the wiring harness. Like a battery bank or something. I do not feel comfortable running wirings to the front of my vehicle.. Not experienced enough.

Today in news I found out that 14 year old minor girl from up got ganged raped by bjp party member and his friends till death. The poor girl had her intestine torned. Two days ago a minor girl was saved from a man who kidnapped her and kept as sex slave. Another man bought a 7 year old child as bride from his parents. Sakshi got brutally murdered for rejecting a psychopath. All this in just few weeks. All of them were minors, they didn't wear provacative clothing, they weren't teasing these men, THEY WERE CHILDREN. Everyday I wake up there's no animosity in news, people talk about it, blame parties, blame religion, blame these women who went through such disgusting fate and then finally forget about it. What I'm asking is, when will it stop? When will we able to wake up and not see this shit on news. And the worst thing is we only see this, the women face this everyday.... Well unless they die then they would be believed but if they are not dead by the rape, they will get questioned(yes children too) if it really happened. Which is good but it takes a woman to die from a horrific death for her pain to be taken seriously and even after that, her perpetrator don't go to jail??? What kind of justice is that? Why are people raping so easily and what can we do to stop it? Drone - I’ll try to whiplash it and punch it with the Knuckleblaster or sometimes the Feedbacker if I can time it right and just punch it into a stray that’s just standing their waiting to die. If there is a bunch of them next to each other I’ll just use the alt piercer.
Street Cleaner - Run backwards and throw coins into air and try to hit them, then I backpedaled off the stage and almost die. If there is is another one that gets knocked into the air from the explosion, I’ll try to shoot it out of the air with the alt piecer.
Swordsmachine - Throw some saws on the ground, shoot some overheated nails, maybe the rail cannon or a rocket, some parrying here and there. If it gets stuck on a jump pad, I just pro boost several times until it’s dead. Usually it’s the last enemy I kill.
Mindflayer - Instakill it with Malicious Rail Cannon or just use every gun I have.
Maurice - Just use Sharpshooter but if that doesn’t work I just shotgun swap. I will also parry its laser whenever I can. Sharpshooter made this game way easier.
Cerberus - Throw down some saws on the ground and wait for Andre to walk into them, then I use over heat nails and after that I switch to Rail Cannon, If there is another one I will not only try to split nails between them but also line up my shot with the Rail Cannon. I will then fire a rocket or two at one of them which will kill it and use a cannonball on the other one.
Hideous Mass - Fuck this guy, all I do is panic and fire nails and rails and drills and alt piercer and prayers into this pile of shit.
Virtue - Just shoot it with the rail cannon but if I don’t have it charged I just use everything else.
Stalker - Ground Slam + Alt Revolver or I just snipe it with Alt Revolver before it does it’s thing.
Insurrectionist - Attractor Saws + Overneat Nailgun + Rail Cannon + really anything that can light it on fire. Use the Cannonball whenever and I don’t mind parrying it’s attacks either.
Sentry - Ground slam it out of the ground and punch it with the Knuckleblaster into the easiest death pit I can punch it into. I the arena doesn’t allow me to do that I use every gun I have on it.
Idol - What do you think?
Ferryman - I haven’t fought this guy that much but whenever he shows up I just use the same strategy as Swordsmachine but with more panic.

I know I Know. I suck at keep track of it. But I got it done. It was a short run as half of my path was under water. Yeah. I hate rain now. Under contract for a home built in 1991 - MLS listed square footage is 2400 square feet (in DE, if it matters).
After purchasing home insurance, we noticed the listed square footage on our insurance documents is 1776 square feet. We took a closer look at the online public records for the country, and sure enough, it shows 1776 square feet.
There is an obvious addition on the back of the house - a roughly 400 square foot living room. My issues are, A) the county seems to have no record of this and B) even with this added on, the MLS listed square footage is about 10% inflated (not sure how common it is for sellers to exaggerate sqft).
We are about 6 weeks from closing, so there is still time. The seller indicated in the initial disclosures that all improvements were permitted. When we ask our realtor about it he just points to the disclosures and says "the seller says.." but, we want proof.
What is the best course of action here? Can we walk away if they don't provide copies of the permits? Can we ask the seller to get retroactive permits? Is the square footage discrepancy a big deal?

We will be joining the protest and setting the subreddit to private at UTC 00:01 12th June for 48 hours.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface.
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing. Bad news for third-party apps, their announced pricing is close to Twitter's pricing, and Apollo would have to pay Reddit $20 million per year to keep running as-is.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app.This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
An open letter on the state of affairs regarding the API pricing and third party apps and how that will impact moderators and communities.

What can you do as a user?

• Complain. Message the mods of reddit , who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
• Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join the coordinated mod effort at ModCoord also Save3rdPartyApps
• Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
