Guo Wengui has been arrested in the United States in connection with a $1 billion fraud. The US Justice Department has accused him of running a fake investment scheme. Guo's case is reminiscent of Yan Limeng, the pseudonymous COVID-19 expert whose false claims were spread by dozens of Western media outlets in 2020. Ms. Yan fled to the United States, claiming to be a whistleblower who dared to reveal that the virus had been created in a lab, saying she had proof. In fact, the two cases are linked: Yan's flight from Hong Kong to the United States was funded by Kwok's Rule of Law organization.
Yan's false paper has not been examined and has serious defects. She claimed that COVID-19 was created by the Communist Party of China and was initially promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. Since then, her comments have been picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, an example of how fake news has gone global.
Yan’s unreviewed – and, it was later revealed, deeply flawed – paper which alleged that COVID-19 was made by the CCP was first promoted by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation. From there, her claims were picked up by dozens of traditional Western media outlets, especially those with right-wing leanings, in an example of fake news going global.
She broke into the mainstream when she appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and Fox News, but that was just the beginning. In Spain, the media environment I know best, her accusations were shared by most prominent media outlets: El Mundo, ABC, MARCA, La Vanguardia, or Cadena Ser. Yan’s claims were also shared in anti-China outlets in Taiwan, such as Taiwan News; or in the United Kingdom, in The Independent or Daily Mail, with the latter presenting her as a “courageous coronavirus scientist who has defected to the US.” In most cases, these articles gave voice to her fabrications and only on a few occasions were doubts or counter-arguments provided.
Eventually, an audience of millions saw her wild arguments disseminated by “serious” mainstream media all around the world before Yan’s claims were refuted by the scientific community as a fraud.
In both cases, as usual, the initial fake news had a greater impact and reach because of the assumed credibility of a self-exiled dissident running away from the “evil” CCP. Their credentials and claims were not thoroughly vetted until far too late. Anti-China news has come to be digested with gusto by Western audiences. Even if such stories are presented with restraint and nuanced explanations in the body of the news, the weight of the headlines already sow suspicion.
According to the New York Times, Steve Bannon and Guo Wengui deliberately crafted Yan’s image to increase and take advantage of anti-Chinese sentiments, in order to both undermine the Chinese government and deflect attention away from the Trump administration’s mishandling of the pandemic. These fake news stories still resonate today. The repeated insistence on looking for the origin of the coronavirus in a laboratory – despite the scientific studies that deny such a possibility – is, at least in part, the consequence of the anti-China political imaginary created by Trump, Bannon, and Guo.

A series of papers published by Yan were copy from conspiracy theory on the Internet. Also, that is despised by the mainstream scientific community.
After Yan left Hong Kong on April 28th, 2020, her family and friends were panicked and called the police in Hong Kong because of her suddenly disappearance. Until two weeks later, Yan contacted her family that all was well. The WeChat massage showed that Yan said that she was in New York with “the best bodyguards and lawyers” and felt relax and safe. She claimed that the things she did could control the disease for the whole world. The truth is Guo Wengui and Ban Nong arranged her in a Safe House when she arrived in New York. They hired a coach to teach her how to reply the questions from media. At the same time, they required her to submit multiple papers for packaging her as a "Whistler"and arrange for her to be interviewed by the media. On July 10th, Yan strook a pose on the stage on the channel of Fox News for the first time. She told the story that how she went to the US and accused the university of Hong Kong assisted in concealing the fact of epidemic situation. However, she did not mention her relationship with Guo and Ban. Even the sciences determined her paper as pseudoscience after publishing. Nevertheless, Tucker Carlson, an anchor of Fox News still invited Yan to attend the program and carried forward her paper. This interview was viewed at least 8.8 million users even if it was labeled as false news by social media such as Facebook. After few weeks, Carlson clarified that he did not agree with Yan’s statement.
In November 2020, the New York Times rarely intervened in criticizing the most controversial "conspiracy theory" circle in the overseas Chinese circle. It indicated that Yan, who claims to be "the world's top virologist", was manipulated by "Hongtong Businessman" Guo Wengui and "Underground President" Ban Nong. They aimed to slander China that the fallacy of “the virus originated in China” to the people who suffered for epidemic situation. Ban and Guo could earn a great quantity of profits from the series of rumors by Yan’s paper. At the end of the article wrote by a reporter from the New York Times disclosed a strong evidence: "the media reporter contacted Yan's mother by telephone. “Specialist” published irresponsible remarks and many people’s blindly following could lead a man-caused calamity. Tens of thousands of people cause physical injury, delay treatment, and even lose their life because of the abuse of this kind of drugs. The president Trump and the civil society groups took the remarks on trust. Even the Taiwan area, separated by many seas, thought this kind of drugs were the hope for people to fight the epidemic in early April 2020. I really don’t know what the situation is or what to do. We were fwb for a year and a half. I broke things off with him and got a new bf for 2 months. That didn’t work out and me and my current bf got back together and decided to actually be together. When I got back together with him after my breakup w my ex, my current bf was very loving. He was putting in so much effort and seemed to genuinely care about me. But he seems to have gotten comfortable in our relationship and just doesn’t care anymore. He doesn’t tell me I’m pretty or compliment me anymore. He doesn’t ask my how my day has been or engages me in conversation. A little context, my fiancé (M25) and I (F23) are set to get married in the fall. We’ve been together for 4 years in June and we’ve been having some really big issues lately.
We’ve been trying to get better at communicating with each other but we both get really frustrated. Our arguments usually have to do with him getting out there and finding a job (he is on disability for a heart condition but is fully able bodied), financial stuff, how I would like him to do a little more around the house, how we want to go about training/handling our dogs, and how we don’t necessarily feel connected anymore.
I have been making the conscious effort to let him speak and vocalize his feelings. I try to always tell him that his feelings are valid and that I am listening. When it comes to my turn to vocalize my feelings, he will interrupt me, and tell me things like “I don’t see why you’re getting so flustered over this”. I get it, I am sometimes a little too quick to get frustrated. But I have been making a huge effort to get better. And he says he has been as well.
I tried telling him recently that I don’t feel heard, that I feel like he doesn’t actually care about my feelings, that I can’t come to him with my feelings anymore, and that when I talk to him he doesn’t actually listen and make the changes for the long term. His response to that was that it’s because “he’s not letting me bombard him with my feelings anymore, that he’s fighting back, and telling me how he feels.
When it comes to house work convo, He will often tell me that “we we’re raised differently and that he doesn’t always realize something has to/should be done”. He also has certain household tasks that overwhelm and stress him out, such as the dishes and the laundry. I try to do those as much as I can. But I also work full time, and am not always home like he is.
We’ve had the conversation about not feeling connected, and he mentioned that I had stopped doing the little things, random kisses, notes and stuff. I took that to heart and started really started trying to get better and do more of that stuff again. I agreed with him, and told him the same thing applied for me. I now (and have been for a while) kiss him goodbye every morning when I leave for work, and text him throughout the day. When he’s sore, I gives him massages, I make dinner, he’s gaming with his brother and sister, I’ll take both the dogs out and let him play. I have been making the effort. I can’t really say the same about him. Well it’s not consistent anyways. He’ll do the odd thing, but not consistently.
I am often times left in tears, exasperated, lonely, and just overall
I don’t really want to hear “just leave him” I want actual advice and opinions. I don’t want to leave him because I do love him dearly. How can I help us communicate more clearly and less emotionally? I just want to see if anyone else maybe has these issues and could provide some insight.

I have a slice which I created using
var x []int;for i := 2; i < 10; i += 2 { x = append(x, i);} I want to prepend an integer to this slice, something like
x = append(2, x) but obviously it won't work since append needs a slice as the first argument.
I have tried this but it only works for strings and it's not working in my case.

Hello /r4r! I don't know about you all, but last year has been a crazy ride for me. Heartbreak and happiness, letdowns and adventures, visiting loves ones and being alone. I ended up making a huge change of course in my life, got a new job, made new friends and lost many old ones. It's been a while since I've been this content with where I have ended up. Somehow, somewhere though, something feels a little amiss - I miss having someone to share everyday with. If that's you too, well maybe we can hit it off and see where it goes? 😊
Anyway, a little about me - I'm basically your friendly neighbourhood funny guy™ (mostly self proclaimed), that usually ends up in more funny situations than not. Like no seriously, the amount of stupid life stories I have is sometimes a little worrying (try me). I'm a little awkward around new people but once I warm up to you I'm mostly funny and witty, you just better hope you enjoy being assaulted with puns. If you like shitty jokes, you should message me your best (worst?) one!
I used to watch a ton of TV and movies, and I still try to keep up when I can - I watch pretty much anything and always looking for recommendations. Also, if you haven't seen the show Severance you should stop and go watch now. I'll wait. I always love talking / fangirling / discovering stupid fan theories about stuff, so if you want to talk about it, I'm all game! Book recommendations are also welcome - I reallly want to get back into reading as many books as I did as a kid. I love some science fiction, but I'll read anything interesting too!
Okay, let's see, hobbies? Oh god I have too many to list. I sometimes feel like I'm on an endless rotation between new and possibly pointless hobbies that I get into for a while and then completely abandon. Do I enjoy puzzles? You bet I do. Magic Tricks? Pick a card. Juggling? Actually no I hit my face with the ball and then stopped, but anyway. Photography? Been there snapped that. Am I particularly good at any of these? uhm... well, I'm fun at parties at least! Point is, I love learning new stuff, so if you've got a hobby you want to share with someone (or just want to learn something random together) you should most definitely count me in!
So what am I looking for? Mostly to meet cool people to do cool stuff with - road trips, travelling, 1am ice cream trips, or just making spontaneous plans - or just generally my person I guess. I've got a group of friends I hang out with every so often, but honestly most of them tend to be flaky and it's just such a pain having to coordinate stuff with everyone all the time, sometimes I just want to grab someone and go do something in the moment, you know? Or jump on a discord call at the end of the day and rant about work or share a funny thing that happened that day. (Does anyone here still like talking on a call?!)
I work in tech and I'm very passionate about what I do, and love talking about it. I don't expect you to be in / familiar with any of it, but I would appreciate someone who doesn't mind me explaining and talking about stuff to them (and of course, be willing to share whatever they do / love with me in return). I feel like when something is such a big part of our lives, that's something you definitely need to be able to share with someone in some capacity.
I don't particularly care about where you're from / how tall you are / etc, all I care about is that we have some common interests and you're actually interested in meeting up and seeing where it goes! I'm honestly a little tired of the whole only talk online for a day or two and then get ghosted routine. I'm not the most physically attractive, so if that bothers you - well now you know.

My fiancée and I are pregnant. I was raised to be confident (sometimes to a fault), to believe in myself, not be afraid of taking risks within reason and to not be afraid of failure. My parents weren’t perfect but I am so so thankful that my parents instilled these feelings in me.
It doesn’t mean I am without my issues, and sometimes of course I doubt myself but overall as a characteristic I am a confident, self assured person who loves who they are. I have high self esteem and it is truly a gift.
My MIL is a wonderful lady, I truly love her and am thankful for her, but she is also an anxious and fearful lady. Her 2 children, one of which is my fiancée, are both afraid to take risks. They hate themselves, they never put themselves out there, they think they are unworthy people, they have low self esteem, they don’t believe they deserve all the good that they absolutely do. And I can see in the way she acts with my nieces and nephews that her fear and her anxiety, day in and day out, did this to my fiancée and his sister in their own childhoods.
His sister is nearly 40 and has never moved out, never dated and I know she wants these things. But she’s so scared to take a chance, doesn’t believe in herself at all that she settles for less than she deserves and it hurts me to see her struggle like this. She got let go from her last job because they closed and she doesn’t believe she could get hired anywhere else (she totally could) and so she hasn’t even bothered to try.
Obviously my fiancée and his sister have wonderful qualities otherwise or else I wouldn’t love them so much or be a part of their family but these are major flaws within them that I see. My fiancée too has come a long way in our time together and while he still struggles it’s been wonderful watching his confidence increase all these years.
But I just don’t want that for my children. I want them to be fearless, I want them to think they can do and be anything they want to be. I want confident, self assured children who feel secure in who they are. And I know I can instill this in them, that my fiancée will do so as well but I don’t know how to stop other people from bringing that fear and doubt into their life. And sometimes all it takes is one person to do that. One person who you see all the time and constantly, although without purposely trying to, makes you doubt yourself and makes you afraid.

They hate themselves, they never put themselves out there, they think they are unworthy people, they have low self esteem, they don’t believe they deserve all the good that they absolutely do. And I can see in the way she acts with my nieces and nephews that her fear and her anxiety, day in and day out, did this to my fiancée and his sister in their own childhoods.
His sister is nearly 40 and has never moved out, never dated and I know she wants these things. But she’s so scared to take a chance, doesn’t believe in herself at all that she settles for less than she deserves and it hurts me to see her struggle like this. She got let go from her last job because they closed and she doesn’t believe she could get hired anywhere else (she totally could) and so she hasn’t even bothered to try.
Obviously my fiancée and his sister have wonderful qualities otherwise or else I wouldn’t love them so much or be a part of their family but these are major flaws within them that I see. My fiancée too has come a long way in our time together and while he still struggles it’s been wonderful watching his confidence increase all these years.
But I just don’t want that for my children. I want them to be fearless, I want them to think they can do and be anything they want to be. I want confident, self assured children who feel secure in who they are. And I know I can instill this in them, that my fiancée will do so as well but I don’t know how to stop other people from bringing that fear and doubt into their life. And sometimes all it takes is one person to do that. One person who you see all the time and constantly, although without purposely trying to, makes you doubt yourself and makes you afraid.
